The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Interesting, so they were actually thinking of trying to get together a UK release for Blue Spring Ride. Normally I'd be pretty passive about these kinds of things beside a general rubbernecking sort of interest, but if this is the case - kind of glad it's potentially been nipped in the bud if there was a Kickstarter in the works as they could have taken people's dosh, sat on it for a couple of years and then never been able to release the show.

So basically nothing's been signed with any Japanese licensors... yet? And all the other potential releases fell through? I hate to be cynical but I'll believe it when I see it. Even if the deal with Bandai goes through, it sounds like an actual release would then actually still be pretty far off.

Damn, T&B in June makes that month even more expensive (unless some more things get delayed)

Animatsu
Nadia

Anime Limited
Kill la Kill Part 3
Baccano
Tiger & Bunny
SPace Dandy

I wager that Baccano might be pushed back, I'm hoping Space Dandy doesn't get affected.

That actually works out quite well for me as I can now afford to buy a figure I've had my eye on :p
I might even cancel the order as it's probably somewhat foolish of me to have a Kaze product on pre-order after the various debacles they've had with quality control *cough*Bakuman*cough*.

It does kind of amuse me how these 'projects' keep popping up - not to do any sense of disservice to the naivety of people starting these companies/initiatives, but surely any reasonably clued-up anime fan would realise how difficult this stuff is to bring to market?

I'm pretty disturbed by their assertion that registering as a limited company protects us the viewer/buyer

If they were to pull some shenanigans it's the company that's liable, not the individuals. You might be able to get their home address but you can't sue them in person or seize their personal assets you need to go after the company, that has no physical office and no physical assets.

I'm all for new companies starting up but if they raise a kickstarter or similar to get going it's something I'd definitely avoid.

Some further research has confirmed that the company's director and secretary is Russell Medcalf, a 17 year-old residing in the UK who is also the "club president" of what seems to be an online collective of anime fans and reviewers.

This part is interesting though:
Well, it would be if they did actually own the rights to the title [A Certain Scientific Railgun] - at the time of writing this article, we have reason to believe that these rights have already been secured by another distributor.

By this, I would assume Animatsu? (does their status as a new company get them out of the Universal issues that were holding Manga up from releasing it? On that note, I was interested to see that Gatchaman Crowds actually just seems to continue with the Manga catalogue numbers on the spine)

The Mangazette weekly e-mail yesterday listed Gatchaman Crowds as a Mange Entertainment DVD only release...

I sent Manga a tweet pointing out that a comment on one of their FB posts was linking to an illegal website and I was surprised, not only did they comment back saying thanks for bringing it to their attention, but they asked me to send them a DM with my address so they can 'send me a treat for being to vigilant'.

Will let you know what I receive, if anyone is at all interested lol

That's real cool. Nice of them to do that & I'm with Lemon, keep us informed :3

(btw I just followed you on Twitter Golly, I'm Peachy. Hope you don't mind)

Manga just sent me a DM saying that they've just sent me 'a couple of titles'. I honestly wasn't expecting to receive more than one....
