Storyboards have been leaked from the (now shelved) live action adaptation of
Akira.
I remain glad that production on this got haulted, Hollywood were just going as far as they could to make another terrible anime adaptation and sully the good name of the original with fans and non-fans alike.
The storyboards themselves weren't looking too bad, until the point Kaneda just drives up to a sign that says '
Welcome to Manhattan' with someone having spraypainted '
Neo' on it, and he just looks into a huge crater. What was going to be the point of him driving to that in the opening scene? To show us that it's now 'Neo' Manhattan and there was an explosion? The original done that just fine why change that? Fair enough to show
us those things, but why would
Kaneda be driving up to the crater? What's there for
him to see?!
Also, you just read the synopsis and cringe; Kaneda's a bar owner...of course he is. There was actually worse as at the point Albert Hughes was meant to be directing there were leaks of scene descriptions from people that had seen the script that included a scene where Tetsuo uses his new powers whilst out bowling with Kaneda and Kei to try and impress Kei (including spinning a bowling bowl on his finger I believe), before Kaneda gets annoyed/jealous and they have a fight.
