The japanese monogatari blu rays don't come with english subs do they?

Nope. The Aniplex USA versions are still available and yes the disc count is pretty much the same.
I was thinking for when the film is actually released because there's a bit of a time lag between aniplex jp and USA right? I doubt fansubbers would be able to do it in that timelag tbh.

I reckon we will see a Blu-ray release as quick as any other Aniplex set. Given these are films the price point shouldn't be a problem as they'll match the Japanese sets (so basically each film will end up costing about £60).

Yeah that's what I was expecting. So probably going to be near the end of 2016 before we can watch it (unless we all fly to Japan). Actually these would be the most amazing movies next year for scotland loves anime ;)

Then why a hashtag spcificly? I can think of a million permutations on 'Those asshole online mra perverts' that'd fit without dating the work.

Also, Prison School isn't exactly some sort of Feminist bastion in the first damn place. Going 'oh those evil misogynists' and then going with the content in show reaks of having ones cake and eating it.

Because nobody's heard of "Those asshole MRA perverts" except people in the 'nerd community' (and it seems there's not a huge crossover between anime and general nerdery), people have heard of gamergate.

The character in the show is arguably a feminist, it may not fit the show's ethos, but it fits as something she'd say.
That line had no business being changed, it was done at best to piss off some nerds and at worst make a spectacle of a show that had plenty of bs in it to capture the ire of whatever poor woman Mary Whitehouse has possessed this week.

I'd have wrung the dub by the scruff of it's neck even if it had taken a swing at whatever passes for GG's opposition (Individuals in Dire need of a warm mug of Horlicks if my run in with their kind is anything to go by).

The change in of itself was crass and what it was changed to only added out of date vimto to that mug of mud.

Seems like a good enough place to ask, how are the MVM releases of the monogatari series in comparison to Aniplex USA? (Other than price).

I have the mvm version of bake (won it in a free comp and it got me really into the series) and it does have a fair amount of banding but it still looks great and it's still got a sparse episode count in terms of western releases (6 episodes max per disc). Basically, are you willing to spend 2.5X the price to get better picture quality?

Thanks for the breakdown!

I figured it'd be another PQ/price thing again. Since there are almost a dozen releases the price difference adds up really quickly. Maybe I'll get the Aniplex release of Bake (as I'm a sucker for art boxes) and pick up the rest of the series from MVM; if I finish the first season enamored with it. First few episodes on Viewster have convinced me to at least pick up the first season.

Since you're giving Aniplex a shot I suggest you get the Aniplex version of Nise also (it'll match with Bake very nicely). The rest, well you could just go for MVM.

Well it depends because I view nise as the weakest point in the series by far. I am cringing at the idea of spending £25 on the mvm version myself although it's all relative I guess.

Having read around the series a bit this is also the impression I get.

I'll make up my mind after finishing Bake I guess, thanks loads for the input so far too all!

Well if sexual fanservice was your top priority then nise would be the best. I would agree that 2nd season is the best however it's kinda unfair to group it together. It's technically 3 seasons so far:
1st season: bake, nise, neki black, kizu
2nd season: neko black, kabuki, Otori, oni, koi, hana
final season: tsuki, owari, some other stuff.

The moderator of the Funi forum has confirmed that Funimation will no longer reference GG ever again:

This is going to be the only thing I say on this matter, and then I'll be done.

Being one of the moderators on FUNimation's forums, I have heard from an official source that FUNimation and the writers have talked to Tyson personally and asked him to refrain from referencing GamerGate in any more of their dubs, to which he has agreed. Also, they are considering re-dubbing the line for the home video release, but they have not yet made the decision to do so just yet.

Just thought I should pass that along. On a personal level, I've had to deal with this matter on the FUNi forums since the dub debuted, and quite frankly I'm tired of it. The sooner we can all put this behind us, the better.

Surely they must have known what they were getting into by referencing GG in the first place. No way this wasn't done on purpose to draw attention or something. Not exactly sure why though.

I think it's quite feasible the line was added as a throwaway joke that nobody really thought about, but given the reaction from the writer, it probably wasn't.

To be honest, that entire movement and the reaction to it is so pathetic and childish, it surprises me that it's supporters haven't just moved on to doing something different already.
