As Zac pointed out in a subsequent tweet, due to the timescale of broadcast dubs and deadlines, it's actually more likely that the Japanese side weren't consulted to approve every line of the dub script. I think it will be interesting to see what happens in regards to the series' home video release, because I doubt anyone on the Japanese side will be happy with the results of a "Prison School" search on Twitter thanks to that one line.

I personally hope that the line is replaced with a more literal translation for the home video release, for no reason other than cutting off any association whatsoever between the series and GamerGate. I've seen FUNimation criticised not only by supporters of GamerGate who feel that the line is a jab at them, but also by opponents of GamerGate for giving the movement recognition, as well as just for being Prison School. So I don't see how the situation is anything but a lose-lose for FUNimation aside from getting more people to talk about Prison School (albeit it in the way we are doing now).

Well, GamerGaters are already threatening to boycott FUNimation over it. Although I doubt that crowd buys anything anyway.

I can see why they would pull it, but people need to stop going apeshit over what was clearly just a throwaway joke in a TV show. Isn't that exactly what the GG crowd wants anyway (people to stop changing media to make it more PC)?

The GamerGate folks would like you to know that this time it's not about ethics in journalism, it's about "production quality". They're upset FUNi has included a pop culture reference that will soon be out of date (because it's not like the rest of the show is full of those or anything ).
Funny considering the average Gator's intelligence is limited to pop culture references and Internet memes.

It's utterly unprofessional to do full stop and highly hypocritical to do in Prison School of all shows.

The steins;gate dub this is most certainly not and god knows Prison School needed one of those to be worth a solid damn even before ethics in journalism was a concern.

Also this was a thing about a week and a half ago.

Let's see them do that in a show that isn't Prison School.

From what I've read the line makes sense in context, and I'd argue it's in keeping with the rest of the show. The "it's unprofessional to make statements like that argument" baffles me, FUNi shows have taken all sorts of pot shots at all sorts of people, why should GG be off limits when nothing else is?

The only argument that does make sense is that the line is not even close to the original Japanese line, but that seems to be a shield GGers are using to defend themselves, rather than something people are actually concerned about...

I swear every time I hear what GamerGaters collectively want all of the goalposts have moved. It's normal for dubs (and translated manga scripts) to rework references to make them more relevant to the new audience. It's annoying but it's not as though this is anything unusual, and if the GG crowd is surprised that a teen girl might find them annoying enough to use as an insult then they probably need to think about the kind of people their campaigning most upset. Whether you love GG or hate them, it's not exactly implausible that they're going to be talked about in that way by certain demographics. They should be happy their movement received permanent recognition like this at all.

Still, I don't think having even more controversy associated with it is ever going to hurt a subversive title like Prison School. The more people it annoys, the edgier it seems, which is exactly the kind of publicity they probably secretly want. I know that personally speaking the presence or absence of a line in a version of the show I'll never watch will not affect my purchase when it comes out in the US.

Kizumonogatari is now confirmed to be 3 films, the first of which debuts in January next year

Now just to hope Aniplex isn't too slow bringing out the BRs.

I wonder if Aniplex will release them separately or as a collection for the US release. Hopefully it's similar to the Bake & Nise sets (with 1 BD case for each film inside a chipboard box).

Then why a hashtag spcificly? I can think of a million permutations on 'Those asshole online mra perverts' that'd fit without dating the work.

Also, Prison School isn't exactly some sort of Feminist bastion in the first damn place. Going 'oh those evil misogynists' and then going with the content in show reaks of having ones cake and eating it.

Because nobody's heard of "Those asshole MRA perverts" except people in the 'nerd community' (and it seems there's not a huge crossover between anime and general nerdery), people have heard of gamergate.

The character in the show is arguably a feminist, it may not fit the show's ethos, but it fits as something she'd say.

The japanese monogatari blu rays don't come with english subs do they?

Nope. The Aniplex USA versions are still available and yes the disc count is pretty much the same.
I was thinking for when the film is actually released because there's a bit of a time lag between aniplex jp and USA right? I doubt fansubbers would be able to do it in that timelag tbh.
