The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Hey Anime Limited have I found another Anime by Shinchiro Wantabe that needs a UK Release. Michiko and Hatchin!

Anime Limited We're REALLY big fans! But at the moment, we can't really go near it....

People, who have the new Kill la Kill release from Aniplex USA, are saying there's no translation for the red text when the English dub is played. Could this be fixed for the Anime Limited release?

Anime Limited We will be adding a sign track to our release. Confirmed!

From a Yen Press job ad:
The Associate Editor will manage approximately 12 titles a season under the Yen On program through all editorial and production stages while contributing to associated manga licenses.

Seems to indicate they'll be running at least 12 series at a time.

At present they have announced:
Spice and Wolf
Accel World
Sword Art Online
SAO: Progressive
Zettai Naru Isolator
DanMachi
Kagerou Daze
Index

That's 8 titles. Does this mean we can expect another 4? And within a couple of years Spice and Wolf will have ended, and they'd have caught up with several of the others (most obviously Kagerou Daze) So if they want to keep up that rate in the medium term the announcements won't end there.

I hope they get Light Novel versions of some of their existing catalog, like Durarara!!, High School DxD and Is This A Zombie?

I would be even more impressed if they manage to license Monogatari unless it's an impossible task to handle.

Meanwhile the Broadcast order version of Haruhi Suzumiya's BD-Box will have new art from KyoAni themselves (one is revealed). Also it's the same A/V as the original and yes it will have both the dub and sub (Next episode previews are raw).

Was considering Aniplex's release seen as the English audio is lossless, not now though. For what they charge, in my opinion there's no excuse for a signs track to go with the English audio to be missing. I can understand if it was just an import but for a domestic release, it should have it.

Will say well done to Anime Limited for not only adding a signs track, but for confirming it as well.

It's like Aniplex pulled a Durarara!! on the fans again for Kill la Kill (English dub with no signs), but I'm curious to hear Mangaranga's thoughts on the release when his copy arrives. I've made my decision to stick with the UK release (5 parts is a bit too much for me, in all honesty they released the series too early).

UPDATE:

WHAT?
The domestic release of GiTS Arise will be dubbed only, so if you want the original Japanese track you'll still need to pickup the collectors editions as they come out.

That is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Is there any reason they had to do that or are they just looking for more money?

Speaking of GitS, no chance all of GitS:SAC on Blu-ray in a sodding great box could be Manga's announcement is there? Because I'd be more than up for that.

Wait a minute.. that could be possible since Manga were involved with the GitS licensing if I recall. On the US covers I noticed on the Bandai SAC back cases that the Manga logo was used, maybe that might be the surprise announcement since it does need to fill some space and works with the original film's 25th Anniversary.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if that was it, actually.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about that - on one hand, as one of Manga's oldest widescreen shows still in print, it clearly needs the Blu-Ray treatment - but equally, I kind of feel like people wouldn't get that excited about it these days. I've always felt SAC is a little flabby as a show - with some incredible episodes watered down by lots of treading water.

Edit: Actually, didn't Manga suggest a Blu-Ray box of Soul Eater at one point? I'd be way more excited about that.

In regards to Kill la Kill, I was always planning on buying Anime Limited's release (3 volumes as opposed to 5 was the big one - let's hope Aniplex don't change their minds on that). I don't get why AniplexUSA didn't include a signs track - it's not like the text is meaningless stuff like a menu in a restaurant the characters are in at one point; we're talking about their names 9.9.

With Yen Press, I think what's most interesting is their use of the word "season", as most light novel series' in the west have subsequent volumes released with a three month gap between them (for example, Sword Art Online's release schedule for 2014 is April-August-December). If the definition was simply "per year" I would have expected it to include multiple releases in the same franchise.

I wonder whether it would be more beneficial, business wise, to focus on licensing properties where other companies own the English rights to the manga (to try and cut into their sales)? Of course, it could be seen as a douchey move for Yen Press, but I wonder if it could actually force other companies into the light novel market? As others have said though, I'd also like to see them release the novels of some of their other properties - I hear that the High School DxD novels are a lot better than the anime. My ideal four would probably be:

- High School DxD
- Kokoro Connect
- Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions
- Shakugan no Shana (come on Yen, rescue it from Viz!).

It's definitely be nice to see more light novels make it over here.

Keen that anything though - whether it be light novel or manga - gets digital releases too. Still too many publishers only doing physical editions when getting the kindle version is a) cheaper and b) saves shelf space.

So it's not JoJo, it's not Cardcaptor Sakura, it's not the Madoka Movies (as far as I know), it's not the A Certain franchise and it's not Sailor Moon. What could it be? It has to be something that they said would take up a lot of space on the shelf...

Dragon Ball Kai's the only thing left that I can think of. What other big series do we not have in the UK? Unless it's an ultimate edition of a smaller series like Haruhi Suzumiya.

Perhaps it is an older series. A classic from the early days of anime, like a Tezuka, although that would be very unlikely.

What about Yu Yu Hakusho ou even Rurouni Kenshin? Funi has Yu Yu right? RK not sure but I think the license is lost at the moment...

MangaUK are actually getting the licenses to all of the shows and editing them into one: The Melancholy of A Certain Cardcaptor Madoka's Bizarre Moon
