Can I just chip in with I'm not having a go at Manga for their budget releases. I know things like Cat Planet Cuties and Freezing aren't gonna get massive releases in the UK and to be honest if it's a choice between amaray DVD/Blu ray release or no release I'll take the budget release. But if it's marketed as a 'collector's edition' collector's expect something to last. (I binned the Brotherhood box after 2 weeks cos of wear and tear)

I think most will agree with you, there's nothing much wrong about an amaray release, it gets the job done and can still look good depending cover design.

Collectors edition's however need to be something special, or at least something with a decent amount of effort put into it.

I noticed this posted in the TFP review of Nekomonogatari Shiro:
The navigation is easy to move though and the disc defaults to the Japanese language with dialogue only subtitles. It also has the option for dialogue+signs as well as the commentary track subtitles.
It could be wrong, but I hope that the character commentaries are returning.

I guess it would make up for splitting the arcs (spending more than ever! But I'm not fussed I loved Bakemonogatari and I'll get them all eventually).

Moving away from this all quickly comes an interesting news tidbit from Crunchyroll. They will be showing the first three episodes of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders dubbed from july 5th to midnight of july 6th. Alongside that is the first 3 confirmed english VAs

Matthew Mercer - Jotaro
Richard Epcar - Old Joseph Joestar
Patrick Seitz - Dio

Came outta nowhere, and i'm kinda interested to see how this'll go.

Psycho Pass Part 1 and 2 have been cancelled and will now be released as a complete collection on September 2nd.
Blu-Ray set is £39.99 on Base.com
Tad more expensive than complete sets from MVM too, so maybe we are getting a collectors pack?

September is a BAAAAD month for me, too many other things coming out. I ended up importing Attack on Titan as got the US release super cheap (£15) and already have too much in September.

Whyyyy would they do this. Being a little unsure about Psycho Pass, I'd much rather be paying £20 for half of it than £40 for all of it.

Also, were there not earlier replies to this post? I'm sure I saw several while browsing earlier. Maybe Rui lost them down the back of the sofa (so to speak) when splitting the Manga rant thread...

EDIT: It was also posted in the release schedule thread. Sorry, Rui. I should never have doubted you.

I second this, Manga UK need to stop being cheap and try something different for once (like their suggestion for chipboard artboxes for instance, Attack on Titan would have been the perfect start for that type of change except they pulled a Brotherhood).
It's hard for Manga to stop being cheap when that's what their entire business model is seemingly built on.
Just face it, the best thing you're likely to get from Manga is a slipcover, maybe with some artcards if you're lucky.
Other distributors, both here and in other territories are trying new things which just won't happen through Manga, (AoT set, Psycho Pass Box + OST etc.) and let's be honest here, if MVM at the very least can do an artbox for their biggest release of the year that just shows Manga up completely.

Let's also not forget that they've taken the piss by stripping the extras from the discs, putting them on DVD only and selling them only as part of this so called collectors edition. The UK audience just gets the **** end of the stick in every way.

People seem to forget that the UK anime market is tiny & the margins equally tiny. Also that it is going to behave like the far larger US market, which it just isn't not matter how much people complain about it. I imagine Manga probably think that they would rather catch sales through lower prices & lesser releases than more expensive releases with more stuff in them but a consequently higher price, to me either market method is equally valid.

Most people (and I don't necessarily mean us) might watch the extras in any special edition once, or not at all (looks at backlog...) so I can easily see why, with a hard-accountant-head on, this decision was made. It's not ideal, but the market is small, and profits need to be made. I hope that the success of Anime Ltd paves the way for more adventurous releases of the big titles, but I'm just happy we're getting so many HD titles this year. This year has been the first where I've bought mainly UK releases.

And Manga *are* cheap, and it's a good thing that their titles regularly end up in online sales. Keeps the medium out there, lets people catch up, maybe -just maybe - nudges them towards a higher quality release.

But yeah, extras put on a dvd isn't great.

Overall - 1 title DVD only, 1 title given a Blu-ray from existing DVD only release, 2 titles given Blu-ray versions with existing Collection 1 & 2 prior and 6 titles have an English dub.

If I recall, Rozen Maiden: Zuruckspulen is one of Sentai's oldest licenses that had yet to be released for home video.

Nice to see two Part 1 & 2 sets given a complete set, hopefully since they're most likely re-doing the discs (like Needless and Xamd) they could give out a proper 1080p transfer (previous sets were 1080i as people claim).

There's a PV out now for Sengoku Basara Judge End (aka Sengoku Basara End of Judgement):

Nishikawa Takanori (the singer from T.M.Revolution who likes to cameo in anime series) is going to voice a new character for the show.

R

(Yaaay Meganebu on BD! I have kinda lost interest in Rozen Maiden by now though.)
