The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

I can't watch the Kill La Kill dub trailer. :/ "It's not available in your region."

Do you know if AoL takes the money right away or just when they send?
They do take the money right away, sadly enough.
They should really look into implementing the pending-system as when I pre-ordered with Zavvi they didn't take the money right away.

random question, could kanon, shuffle or air ever get a UK release ? and who would buy it ?
Whether they'll ever get an UK release is not up to us to answer.
I certainly hope given Angel Beats and Clannad have been released in the UK that also AIR and Kanon will make it over.
(And no, dear fellow members of AUKN: importing the R1 release is not an option for me)

I believe all three properties do have Japanese BD boxes, so I'd buy them on BD if they got released on BD in the UK.
Shuffle is actually the very first anime for me, it got me into anime, so I'd REALLY LOVE to own that on BD.

So, Japan is getting a Blu-ray boxset for Outlaw Star and Anime Limited are interested.
*scratches Outlaw Star from to-get-on-dvd-list*
This title had no priorities to me, and won't have when it gets released on BD by Anime Ltd, but I would get it eventually! ^_^

Garden of Sinners will be NTSC according to MVM on twitter.
Not as good as a Blu-Ray, but better than getting PAL.
Still not getting it. Blu-Ray or bust. Sorry, MVM, I know it's out of your hands! ^_~

Anime Limited confirmed that the UK release of Kill la Kill will be in three parts, with the first volume due out in late 2014. And could we be seeing a way to house all three parts?
The former is old news to me. And I really hope the way to house all three parts is nothing silly.
I just want a rigid artbox to hold all 3 parts, the suggestion in the next tweet seems like something I wouldn't even want to buy. >_<
I don't really like it when collector's editions only appeal to sub-fans who've already seen the franchise.

yeah, i cant import, only have a ps3, and these titles are big enough to warrant a bd, or any kind of uk release.

Funimation and the ADV Zombie bury the hatchet, and not in each other's skulls...

Case dismissed!

Been wondering about this for a while, it all went quiet, I guess because they were working things out, that and the stupidly long American litigation process.

Can't multi region DvD players be picked up for £20-30 these days?

I think someone said it earlier but I doubt we'll see Air or Kanon, Clannad didn't do well enough and that's always been the biggest of the 3 afaik.

Loads of people are going to hate me for saying this but.............battle of God's isn't that good.

It's got loads of plot holes
It's indicated that there's more for the series coming but for far nothing

It's just a mess

While adding further insult to injury, here's what the extras of Attack on Titan are:
Episode 3 Commentary features ADR Director Mike McFarland along with voice actors Bryce Papenbrook, Trina Nishimura and Josh Grelle.
The Making of Attack on Titan (1080p; 52:34) is a surprisingly in depth piece that gives a lot of behind the scenes action at FUNimation as the English language adaptation was prepared.
Episode 13 Commentary features Mike McFarland along with voice actors J. Michael Tatum, Scott Freeman and Clifford Chapin.
Chibi Theater: Fly, Cadets, Fly! (1080p; 47:10) is a series of shorts detailing adventures of the Cadet Corps, in chibi form, of course.
Eyecatch Gallery (1080p)
Textless Opening Song "Feuerroter Pfeil Und Bogen" (1080p; 1:34)
Textless Closing Song "Utsukushiki Zankoku Na Sekai" (1080p; 1:31)
U.S. Trailer (1080p; 1:43)

They're all in 1080p even the Chibi Theater so what makes Manga think that they're standard definition?

Via an on disc trailer from part 1, Funimation will be releasing part 2 of Attack on Titan on the 23rd of September.
Same release style as part 1, so Standard/Limited/Funi Exclusive Collectors editions. Let's hope P2 comes with an artbox.

I generally hope so too. I think a lot of people were complaining about the safety of their sets so hopefully that gets Funimation's attention.

I doubt it but maybe they were mastered in SD. Maybe they did it to try and force you to buy the collectors edition to get the extras. More than likely it's a reason Mangaranga suggested in the photos thread, a way to save money. Use a BD50 and BD25 rather than two BD50's.

Thinking about it though, I'm not sure how much they would actually save. They would need to re-author the Blu-ray to remove the extras and then create a DVD from scratch.

Madman shared the costs of authoring the blu ray, maybe that's what they wanted.

I know they normally do but for this release I wasn't sure as it's different from Madmans release. I know there's sometimes a difference in regards to trailers and logos but this one is beyond that.

Manga would still have to create a DVD from scratch, I assume by them self. Would it save Manga that much by having a BD50, BD25 and creating a DVD from scratch.

I guess only Manga know exactly why they done what they did. So unless they actually say, it's all just speculation as to why.

Outlaw Star is showing as in stock at UP1. I guess that means Amazon will be shipping shortly too.

Looks like it's finally here, I hope it's perfect or there's going to be some very red faces over at Anime Limited all things considered.

When I made that post a few minutes a go it hadn't been dispatched but I just received an e-mail to say it's on it's way. I just wished I'd pre ordered a little earlier as I understand it was up cheaper than the £23.45 I managed to order it for. Definitely seems like a good idea to auto pre-order any Amazon title and then revisit later to lock in the price.

I've had it pre ordered since the day it went online (2nd june 2013) and I think the price i've been charged is £19.94.

On the quality of the collection, I read a review somewhere (animeblurayuk maybe?) They said the sound dips out for a second on one of the episodes and the menus look like a knock off release. Not a massive problem to me, tiny bit red faced for Anime Limited but not the end of the world. but I can see all the people who pissed and moaned about bebop volume 1 starting an online petition to have anybody who worked on the release murdered...

Got my copy of Outlaw Star today. Not a fan of the case. Could be susceptible to loose discs (mine had one) and there's a lethal sharp bit of plastic inside the case (that's obviously used for the red security bar that places like HMV use) and could scratch a disc.

Also, as an English major there's something niggling me on the show description (I'm often called a Grammar/Spelling nazi)
"Then, though an unusual and dangerous turn of events, they inherit a highly advanced ship and their adventures really begin."

Grrr.. it should be:
"Then, THROUGH an unusual and dangerous turn of events."

The show looks great though and excited to watch it now. Also, the catalog number is ANI0002. Wow, it really did get delayed if this was technically their second title.

I've only watched a little bit of Episode 1 despite having it a week, but does the English dub seem slightly out of sync to you?
