The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Lots of stuff going on while I was busy heh. Let's see now.

I'm at work so i can't get this posted properly so i hope the likes of josh and co can for me. Anime Limited are doing a kickstarter, starting i believe on wednesday? For Patema Inverted Ultimate edition. The draft project page is available here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/al ... n=4d17b4d0

I'm quite happy with this approach i will be honest. it's a good way to gauge interest and demand. I knew it would still be a very western thing, but if it means we get more nice things over here, i can dabble in it fine.

I don't believe this affects the general release, just more of a collectors edition? Andrew rescue me here XD

I'm loving it. I actually quite like the design for the Ultimate Edition, it's an auto donation from me. I'm still in consideration on whether I'll go for the £40 or the £75 one. The £75 one feels a bit off, maybe the Quad Poster is the reason for being too high or possibly the Associate Producer position (I would love to have this considering I'm still a Uni student haha).

Ironic though but it's due to us being bogged down in approvals - the GL committee is exceptionally strict so we have to fight over a lot of points I'm afraid. I'll have an update very soon I hope!

Andrew

Like they say, Patience is a virtue. Except there are a lot of people who aren't because of the delays. I'm not fussed if the Ultimate set gets delayed by a week or two (as long as it arrives in June I'm good).

Don't worry we won't be doing everything on BD. If something didn't sell well on DVD it certainly wouldn't fare much better for BD. We'll be concentrating on our newer titles and some of the older ones that have sold well. Our most requested titles in terms of older series are Samurai Champloo, Berserk, Ergo Proxy, Fate/Stay Night and Paranoia Agent. So we'd love to have all these done by the end of the year but we'll see what happens.

No doubt we'll have more details at MCM Comic Con in May.

You're better off leaving Berserk, Ergo Proxy & Paranoia Agent out of the question unless you can get someone like All the Anime (or anyone from Australia) to help sort out the Blu-ray treatment due to high costs. In addition, Paranoia Agent isn't going to help your sales if it's still cut by the BBFC unless they change their minds like the Kaze release of Code Geass and Manga UK release of Ninja Scroll since it's been quite a while now.

Samurai Champloo is a nice start though baring in mind it's an upscale. Regarding Fate/Stay Night well Mangaranga explained that issue already.

VIZBIGS are back in print, all of them including Dragon Ball, Rurouni Kenshin & Vagabond!. ETA for UK release is unknown but Kenshin VIZBIGs are back to normal on Amazon.

Hope this helps!

The Ultimate Edition looks fantastic, but it really needs to include the art of the regular edition somewhere. Maybe on the front of the Digipack instead of the guy in the field.

Noted - will see what we can use that artwork for - got a few surprises on the cooker for stretches though so watch this space!

Best,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I'm really liking the artwork that your using for the standard release of Patema Inverted, and was wondering if it would be possible to use it as the main artwork for the Collector's Edition as well.

I'm looking into this, we may also have a surprise for the first stretch goal. May have a very rare shot at an exclusive illustration for the Ultimate Edition!

Watch this space...

Gutted about the delay. Hoping some things are announced for release between now and then. Nothing in May June July and probably August now.

Some big Gurren Lagann updates, including art work!
Sadly it's been delayed (okay by me though, more time to save) but its totally understandable, latest being August 25th, here's the official post: http://www.alltheanime.com/update-gurren-lagann/

Cool. Not bothered by the delay. Prefer it's delayed and get's done properly. I see they sorted out the English signs/song track which is good. Still no mention on the audio format though.

Hats off for the amazingly well put together packaging.

I've fired off a mail about helping with the subtitle QC. This means you can all look forward to an error free release.

If you do get to do some quality control on the subtitles, will you also be checking the signs/song track as well?

I also did that. I'm really big on video quality, so I'm pretty good on picking up on poor encoding and other video issues as well as faulty, mistimed, mispelt or missing audio/subtitles.

For sure mate. I'll make sure the subs are where they need to be.

I've seen you talking about encoding regarding Sentai/Kazé etc and you know your stuff for sure. I could do with some technical tutoring from you when it comes to video haha.

I'd say that our pal Just Passing Through will be a very good person to help out in general with QC too. :thumb:

I'm sure the signs and songs track will be a big focus considering they had to create them themselves from the Beez DVDs. Assuming all the text was carried over properly the main thing I'd look at is whether they've been retimed properly (Going from 25 -> 24FPS).

Eugh, Sentai. Don't get me started again ;)
Anyway, if the quality of Bebop (Excluding video blips) and Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning are anything to go by, then the quality of Gurren Lagann will be far better than anything released by Funimation or Sentai as of late.
The episode to disc split also looks promising provided that the space is actually being used, and given the amount of dark scenes I can only hope that this helps keep banding to a minimum.

Provided he's got the time and actually wants to QC the series, I would very much agree with you.

Andrew just replied to my Facebook comment saying he's working on q3 stuff this week so i assume it should be coming very soon :excited:

@NormanicGrav

Thats pretty awesome news. Its nice they are including the rare Animax dub, which'll be cool. Shame its not Discotek, but at least it's being handled by a company that know what they are doing *cough* S'more *cough* Cinedigm* I hope this is region free, since that would be nice.

Speaking of Discotek...

http://www.animenewsnetwork.co.uk/news/ ... s-tv-anime Yay for manly neko shows! Srsly, very nice to have this on DVD. They keep on giving the goods.

Very tempted by that Cardcaptor Sakura BD set even though I have the DVDs. We'll see how wealthy I'm feeling when it comes out.

I'm still locked in region A so can't get the TTGL box, even though it looks glorious ;_;

...Oh, that looks beautiful. When will we knows news on the regions? cause I really want this and don't have a region free BD player.

Probably going to be A, then again Daily Lives of Highschool Boys was region free.

I do have to question why NIS America are releasing the blu-ray as one massive, expensive set as opposed to keeping a similar strategy with the DVDs, with them being broken up into three parts. I mean, $250 is a lot of money.
