The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Just had to actually look up Scanavo FR4ME packaging. Honestly, I really like the packaging - it looks really stylish (especially as in a subsequent tweet, Jerome mentioned that they now have spines). I imagine the stand was just something the distributor sent MangaUK to show off the packaging, but if they could afford to do something like that with limited edition releases (like with the release's logo instead of the FR4ME logo), they could be really cool looking display pieces.

(Also, shame about the comment on Strike Witches' movie being in licensing hell. Maybe it could be a hint towards a BD release of the TV anime though?)

EDIT: So I found this video, showing off the case some more (note that MangaUK did say that the company has tweaked the design to allow spines)

It does make a point of how hard it can be to swap the artwork. Otherwise, I think these could be really cool.

It's possible, both Seasons are Region B and are released in Australia I think. Though I can't comment much since I just bought the US sets.

My only concern is that some of the colours look ugly, like:

White looks very nice though.

Ikki Tousen Great Guardians has finally been rated by the BBFC, so far they've displayed episodes 8 to 12 with an overall 18 rating for: strong sexualised nudity, sexual fetish, strong violence.

1-7 have yet to be revealed but it should be up later today or at the end of the week.

The runtime for 8-12 is 170m 11s and uncut.

The BBFC cutting High School DxD isn't what I'm concerned about - it's whether it will be simply be refused classification, due to Asia and Koneko possibly edging a bit too far on the line of dangerous publications. Which would be a shame as I absolutely love the series and do want to own it (I'm personally anticipating an 18 certificate).

With only a month until release, I guess we'll just have to Sewaddle happen.

Considering manga's attitude towards upscales, the chance of a strike witches BD release over here is a big fat zero.

I knew Season 1 was an upscale but I thought Season 2 wasn't.

There's no chance of that law being invoked. It's for porn.

EDIT: 15 btw (and uncut).

This was a shocker. I presume the Jiggles Unleashed (OVA Specials 1-6) didn't prevent the show from being an 18 or refused in the end.

Agreed. Which is why I took the safe route and imported High School DxD when it came out (can't believe the Limited Edition set sold out in a matter of months, not natural for Funi's LE sets).

The only problem I have regarding the BBFC is Paranoia Agent. I want this series, the US version is OOP and the UK version is cut by the board. If the license has expired in the US, I hope Funimation picks it up and does a BD release.

And on this day, the BBFC were cool.

I was wagering 15-18, but leaning more to the 18 side to account for potential age issues and OAV antics.

Logically speaking however, while it does have a high % of nudity and such, it's not done in an overly sinister way and is nowhere near the violence combined with nudity that causes Ikki Tousen to get an 18.

A new license has possibly been announced and is coming from Anime Limited, I'll put spoiler tags on the title in case people want to save it for the big announcement:

Giovanni No Shima - A theatrical film from Production I.G. released back in February 2014. AL responded to a tweet when someone asked this

Other additional AL details:
- Mai Mai Miracle news 'next week on'
- Kill la Kill will be available on Blu-ray when it's ready for retail
- Patema Inverted news this week. In addition, the set will include both the English & Japanese dubs, Cast announcement(s) within the first half of May

Season 1 being an upscale would stop a season 2 release from happening regardless of the fact that it's a HD native release since there wouldn't be any point releasing season 2 on blu-ray without season 1 (plus the US release would mean that it's likely not to sell well as everyone who had would have gotten that version).

What are the odds that MangaUK could try and push Japan to let them do a Season 1 + 2 Complete Blu-Ray box set?

Very slim you say? Hmm....

For anyone interested, I sent Sentai an e-mail about the disc count on their sub-only blu-rays for this month and this was their response.

"Kinmoza BD will be on 1 disc. Looks like the rest will be on 2 BD discs. You know there isn’t any quality difference."

Oh and from the look of it, both Yuyushiki and Fantasista Dolls will be on one Blu-ray disc only... Seems like maybe someone is misinformed.

First seven episodes of Ikki Tousen: GG gained a 15 for strong sexualised nudity. Pretty much like the first two seasons (first half 15, second half 18).
