The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Hmm.. other than Amazon and UP1, there's the US version of UP1 and Rightstuf. Customs is more likely with Rightstuf (I say more likely because I haven't been hit for about 3 times within a month).

NTSC format died back in 2009, just like PAL did in 2010/11. It's all digital now with 1080i (or p) 60hz. for US, Canada, and the southern half of Japan, and a few other backwater areas of the world that are, or were US terratories and 50hz for anywhere else. even present day DVD's are just downverted HD if HD is the original production format. Saying "NTSC" for 1080/60 and "PAL" for 1080/50 is just patronising your intelligence.

No customs worry with the US version of UP1, because it's basically their UK operation but you get charged in dollars. Depending on your card it generally works out better, though it's a good idea to watch the exchange rates.

And it's also better if you make sure how much your bank charges for foreign currency transactions as it could either be nothing, £1 or around 3% of the total cost of the items (the first of the two charging option could be classed as a rip-off for lower priced orders, but the same would be true of the second in regards to more expensive items).

Psycho Pass will be arriving in the summer for UK folks. And the Q3 schedule is arriving in April.
Guys! PsychoPass Part 1 is scheduled for Blu-ray and DVD release this summer with Part following about 8 weeks later. The reason we didn't announce it on the weekend is that we'd prefer to wait until after we've pitched it to the retailers as part of our Q3 line-up, which happens in April. So! Stay tooned. It's definitely coming out this summer and will be available to pre-order in April. >Jerome

Hmm, Summer can be anytime from July-September, so we could be looking at a September and November Release.

I'm still tempted by the US releases atm, i'll have to think about this.

Not huge news for the UK, as we've had it for quite a while now, but Discotek have confirmed a US re-release for the Castle of Cagliostro on both DVD and Blu-Ray. A full list of extras has yet to be confirmed, but it will include both English dubs and a new commentary track, which is nice, as I believe the UK BD was rather spartan.

The biggest difference is probably the fact that the US release has both dubs like Funimation did with Akira, which gives the UK release a slight disadvantage since we got them way early.

I never thought about the US Cagliostro Blu-ray having Manga's Animaze dub as well as (or instead of) the Steamline dub that's on the Optimum release. It's also going to have an audio commentary from the hugely knowledgeable guy who runs the lupinthethird.com fansite. There's a couple of good reasons to buy my favourite film for the fifth time.

For those who wanted SNAFU and various DVD-only titles on Blu-ray, Sentai confirmed it was down to reverse importation.

Hey guys! We'd like to address something that our fans have been asking us quite a bit recently. Here is our official word on why some of our programs are being releases DVD only as of late:

"Occasionally our programs may be subject to release parameters that are determined by underlying rights holders and which are otherwise outside our direct control. For example, a program's inclusion on certain media formats such as Blu-ray disc may be subject to a holdback that expires following release of a Japanese domestic version in that format."

So, there you have it, guys. Comments are appreciated. Thanks!

- So then we can expect the blurays later?

- In most cases, yes.

Pretty much I would suspect a Blu-ray release sometime in the autumn or just before 2015.

Looking at Kazé's website, there aren't any plans for a French release either. If they were releasing one, I'm sure Jerome would have hyped it like mad because of all the stink the cancellation caused.

Arceus knows where that listing came from then though, as Amazon isn't listing it.
