The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Digibooks are the ultimate. Steelbooks were my preference about three/four years back, but then too many companies started to release steelbooks, so what made them special in my eyes started to diminish.

Sentai's release of Hentai Prince & The Stony Cat is sub-only, on blu-ray and scheduled for 3rd June. Dog & Scissors is sub-only DVD and follows a week later, among others.

AMNESIA COMPLETE COLLECTION (DVD/BD, Dual Language) - 3rd June
HENTAI PRINCE & THE STONY CAT COMPLETE COLLECTION (DVD/BD, Sub-only) - 3rd June
DOG & SCISSORS COMPLETE COLLECTION - 10th June
LEVIATHAN ~ THE LAST DEFENSE COMPLETE COLLECTION (DVD/BD, Sub-only) - 10th June
MAOYU - ARCHENEMY & HERO COMPLETE COLLECTION (DVD/BD, Sub-only) - 10th June
BUSOU SHINKI COMPLETE COLLECTION (DVD, Sub-only) - 17th June
SAMURAI BRIDE COMPLETE COLLECTION (DVD/BD, Sub-only) - 24th June

They really are doing more sub-only stuff now.

Jesus that's nearly the entire June line up being sub-only, and I recognise all of them.

So overall these BD titles have been given the sub-only treatment, which is quite a lot especially to some of the titles have people have been dying to have dubbed (like Chunibyo and Maoyu).
- Casshan: Complete Collection

That's not necessarily a bad thing though. Their dubs range from plain bad to absolutely awful, and 99% of the time I switch to Japanese w/Subs within the first five minutes.
I don't mind getting a series like this as they then cost a bit less too - although Sentai are going to have to step up Video Encoding if they want me to buy Sub BDs. Ideally I'd also like to be able to watch with White Subtitles.

Regarding the upcoming Blu-ray for DRRR!! (from Facebook):

"Sinbad: Have you checked the discs for glitches and to confirm that all on screen text is subtitled?

Anime Limited: Hi Sinbad,

The discs were authored by our friends at Siren in Australia as their schedule was ahead of ours on this project - so all QCing was done on their end as well.

All text on screen is translated but there is no signs-only track - which was a decision out of our hands on that one I'm afraid! We are asking about why this happened though.

Andrew"

Thoughts?

DRRR was released first on Blu-ray by Aniplex, who doubled the release for US and Japan, Japanese audio and subs, English audio and subs, and no signs tracks.

Siren re-authored the discs for Region B, and I guess the hope was that they'd put on a signs only track for the English dub. But... everything has to be okayed by Aniplex before release, and I can see them okaying something being removed, but not okaying something being added.

Basically spot on - it's not like we can do anything about it having looked into it. That said, I do believe you get a pretty sweet version of it packaging wise too that costs less than importing from anywhere else in the world - so we've tried to make up for things where we can :).

Apologies to anyone hoping we'd be able to perform miracles there but we do respect Siren's work on this one!

Best,

Andrew

Thanks for the info guys. I'd probably only watch it in Japanese anyway.

I remember seeing a post on Siren's FB saying they were fixing something that was wrong with the JP/US release. Do you know exactly what that was? Check here.

Samurai Bride being a sub only is a bit strange, considering the first series had a dub.

Samurai Bride is getting a dub.

Cautious Optimism.

That sounds about right.

Always it was a "never-ever-ever-ever" gonna get licensed show...and it last it has. Hooray! :D

It's not everyone's cup of tea but I really liked the series, it was like a semi-realistic depiction of what would happen if someone tried the harem gambit in real life  I just remember that ending totally destroying my innocent little mind

Just got an email from Amazon that MangaUK's release of Jormungand Season 1 has been delayed to July 21st.

It's always my favourite shows that get delayed. Ah well I can wait, it's Perfect Order that I want a date for anyway.
