The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

For anyone who wanted Mawaru Penguindrum on BD and hasn't already imported the current US/AU releases, Siren will be releasing a complete collection on the 23rd of April with an RRP of 59.95 AUD.

^ If MVM got those licenses (bar Little Busters) from Hanabee, hopefully we can get BD's of some of these releases over here, even though I presume that would mean a delay for Accel World.

Only once? I hope that's your way to referring to season 1, and not talking in general as that's pretty harsh to say otherwise.
It was and a reference to Cannon Fodder 2 (which had the slogan of "War has only been this fun once before" to match Cannon Fodder 1's "War's Never been So Much fun")
I still think you're confusing Chuunibyou with Sakurasou.

I hate to be that guy buy honestly I don't see the BBFC ever changing their ways ever
It's not a BBFC decision, it's one dictated by law.
Specifically the "Video Recordings (Labelling) Regulations 2012"

MVM did state last year that they are going to try and get more backlog titles an upgrade during a Facebook discussion when a fan asked about the possibility of the Berserk TV version receiving a Blu-ray.
It would be good if they did bring out Blu-ray versions of their backlog titles. I would like to see Canaan, wouldn't mind Fate/Stay Night and would love to see Ergo Proxy. I doubt Ergo Proxy would get a BD though, seen as there is no US release of it yet.
Lain would be nice, if they can get the license back.

Sentai Filmworks have licensed Maoyu -Archenemy and Hero- anime series, for home release. This title aired back in Winter 2012.

Also known for:

Still, I'm looking forward to this. I'll import though as Kaze probably have captured this one since it's on Animax.

I just rewatched Maoyuu on Animax as it happens.

Umm...Maybe my idea of rigid is different to theirs. When I think "rigid artbox", I think of AL's Bebop Collectors Edition. Madman's SAO artbox was definitely not like that.
The Mezzo DSA box is the definition of "non-rigid".

Ah Yes, Maoyu. Other wise known as "Why you don't give anything that's not a vapid boob show to the ass clowns who made Queen's Blade a thing".

13 episodes of nothing interesting (if you have any other intrest than Boobs flyling all over the joint) punctuated by a plot twist that sounds awesome on paper (It was the Gamelon Empire all along) but in the end wasn't enough to make the previous 13 episodes of suffering worth it.

Avoid and watch Log Horizon, which is by the same author and animated by Satelight, instead.

Details on Funimation's Attack on Titan release is unveiled by Amazon, no release date revealed but I'm going to guess it's part of the June line-up.

The Limited Edition Part 1 release will be getting the Guilty Crown style treatment (not the Premium treatment that Kamisama Kiss and Psycho Pass has got; soundtracks and/or goodies etc.) where it will have these in the set:
- 3-D Lenticular
- 24 page digibook ~ Full of art, character information, and 4-panel comics
- Artbox to fit Part 1 and 2 together

The LE is placed as $89.98 SRP (£53.90 est.). A standard Part 1 is placed at $64.98 (£38.92 est.).

UK fans who can't/don't import, I presume from what I heard by listening to their podcasts & looking at the tweets is that Manga UK's release of AoT Part 1 and 2 are going to be in Steelbook form.

You know if Funimations version will be A/B or just A? If it's A/B then that's a tough choice for me. I collect steelbooks, but at the same time I do like the art boxes.

Considering every distributor was able to license the title after Funimation did and wanting to get it out asap it's possible that it might be A B | 1 2 4 . The same could go for Karneval too.

But right now it's to be determined and the June line-up won't be unveiled until mid march (if it's on there).

Heh, steelbooks are my favourite form of DVD/BD packaging. Pretty much the only type I'll go out of my way to pay extra for (though not too much). Either configuration is good though, glad Titan is coming westwards so quickly.

Sadly my Evangelion tin is dented and scratched thanks to Royal Mail, or whoever delivered it. So it's really put me off getting any more. If it ever gets a re-release I'm replacing it.

But yes, I'm really impressed at how quickly this was announced and 'released', or at least pleased over the scheduled release date.

I personally hate Steelbooks so an Artbox with artbook is an easy import for me.

I mostly dislike Artboxs as a lot of them tend towards the too big and end up taking up far too much space, so though I don't go out of my way to collect Steelbooks, I would rather have them given the choice.

If they made the steelbook so that it can hold two sets of discs like a complete collection it'd be fine with me, but I doubt that's even possible.
I'll await further details before making many decisions. As far as I'm concerned I'm lead to believe there will be better things to get than AoT.

Either way, my favourite kind of release is the rigid artbox one. Really love my Shiki, Okami-San & Dance in the Vampire Bund LE boxsets. :3

We'd love to get Lain back and on BD. We'll see what happens.
I haven't watched Serial Experiments Lain yet and am definitely interested in watching that in due course. ^_^
So I'm not going to watch that given I know there's interest by the UK Anime Industry for a re-release, and I'd rather support that I think.
Same accounts for Azumanga Daioh. I know someday either Anime Limited or MVM Entertainment will be re-releasing that on dvd.

I do want it on blu-ray, but as far as I was aware the AU release had its own issues, so I'm not jumping in the air out of joy.
I have no intentions to watch it soon due to all the crippled releases around the globe.
I even wonder whether I'd be able to find a dual audio native HD encode of it given many encoders just rip the discs, which are heavily crippled by the 1080i.

Hanabee announces the Australian blu-ray releases of Accel World, The Familiar of Zero, Little Busters Part 2, Campione and From the New World.

Awesome stuff, I'll definitely be getting Accel World and probably Familiar of Zero and From the New World, as well. But Accel World? Definitely.
Hanabee really have neat licences and decent packaging. Kinda wish there was a Hanabee UK.

As for the licences itself, if MVM want to have my money over time for any titles that are available on blu-ray in another English-speaking territory they have to release it on blu-ray in the UK. Especially the Familiar of Zero anime is one I'd love to get, but wouldn't get if it was dvd-only.
Same accounts for many of their 2013 & 2014 titles. So far anything announced dvd-only ends up being "indefinitely delayed purchases (or imports)" (unless I wasn't going to get it in the first place).

I rather would have a delay and a blu-ray release than no blu-ray.
Having to wait isn't bad at all in such a situation which is for the better.

It's funny how they haven't announced whether it'll be dubbed or not, even though it's probably a June release.
But honestly, at first sight (I mean via MAL, not that gif in the spoiler) it looks like a show I want to watch, of course I'd need to do more research on it before buying/watching it.

I have some awesome artboxes: in particular the solid wood-like one for Negima, Trinity Blood with it's fancy hinge, the thinkpack tin for Stellvia and the book for R.O.D the TV.
I also go out of my way for Steelbooks (I've never even watched the Voltron one, but it was cheap when Zavvi were dying) and I stopped collecting Bleach when they stopped doing the exclusive tins in Virgin because there was no other incentive to get me through that first filler arc...
