Oh sweet. I've been waiting for someone in the US to license Code Geass so I can import the 99% likely superior release.
I don't know why I bought the first UK BD set since I knew this would happen again.

I was holding off the BD release for the US as well (I bought the DVD versions instead after hearing about the disc amount and the extras cut off on R2). Hopefully they aren't putting everything on two discs like UK and Australia have.

The number of discs versus the amount of space used is a bit of an odd thing with distributors. Something which I find kind of confusing since they could save more money if they used the space they have. The US release of Black Lagoon could have been on Two discs if they fully used two BD 50s for one example (I believe Funi actually got the same video masters as Kaze). The UK release of Madoka Magica COULD have been on one disc instead of 3 16gb BD 25s - especially when the same Madman trailers are on all three discs.
I don't see why US distributors re-encode the episodes either when they don't even use the entirety of the discs afterward. An average Funi/Sentai BD release only uses 30-40gb of the first disc and another 20-30 or so for the second. AniplexUSA did it right with Blue Exorcist for example, using 3 BD 50s but also using the Japanese BD masters, so each disc is high 30 - 40gb.

What I'm trying to say here is why do Distributors (other than Aniplex in this case) use more discs when they don't need to?
Is it to increase the perceived quality of their products?
Admittedly I wouldn't be too impressed if I were to find a series coming out on one disc, and it was worrying to see Code Geass season sets coming out with 2 discs (Of which Kaze only use ~30gb of each disc) but especially with Manga going on about the cost of manufacturing BDs, wouldn't it make more sense for distributors to actually use the full amount of space and less discs?

If any series deserves to be back in print, it's Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars. And they will be, since Funi have rescued it. Oh, and they've also picked up a couple of minor titles like Code Geass.

Really couldn't get on with Crest of the Stars - couldn't identify with a main character collaborating with the alien oppressors.... Did wonder if there was a weird subtext and Japan and the USA post-WWII...

Heh, that's precisely why I found it so interesting. It's rare to get something from the point of view of the 'conquerors" like that. The main relationship between Jinto and Lafiel I still find to be incredibly fascinating.

i like banner of the stars because of that,

the humans * the united mankind * are the bad guys of the series more then anything, in fact im sure the united mankind was more a dictatorship then the aliens,

Deadman Wonderland is now rated 18 instead of 15. Manga UK confirms.
Was anyone really expecting it to be rated anything less?

I've heard about this quite a bit. Worth a watch then? Is it dubbed yet?

I haven't seen it but I hear its good, the ending went a different direction for the same reason Soul Eater and the original Fullmetal Alchemist did (It caught up with the manga).

And yes, English dub and Japanese dub is included.

An average funimation/sentai release wouldn't be able to use 30GB for the second disc as it's always a BD-25 that is used.

As for the Madoka release, Madman released it over three discs so manga had to make do with the masters they were sent (any demands for changes would have most likely ended with the cancellation of the BD version with the usual moaning that they would make a massive loss) although if your correct madman went and compressed the video (or whatever) as each volume on the US release is on a BD-50 and not a BD-25 (and since I don't have a blu-ray drive on my computer, I can't get any information on how much space was used on them).

The Files on the UK BDs for PMMM are only about 3.6gb each with a bunch of other crap like Madman trailers. I didn't actually really watch the TV series so I can't comment on what the picture quality is like.
By the sounds of it the release is an crappier version of the US one though, since as you said, apparently the US release uses BD 50s. Some other things like the menus are also different.
Maybe Madman did it since they though it wasn't go to sell that well?

I'll be honest I'm surprised at an 18. The original manga was fantastically violent but I felt the show toned it down quite a bit (admittedly I only watched the first couple of episodes and stopped because I wasn't overly enamoured with the changes/toning down the violence, so I don't know if it got any more violent). I've still got it ordered, of course.
