Nisemonogatari to be 18 rated, at least for episodes 1-4, and 8-11
a little surprising, but i suppose i can understand it

I haven't watched Monogatari yet, but I'm liking where this is going. Must be the fanservice.

I've only see a few episodes of bake, but i agree, this rating tells me that i'm in for no unnecessary censoring, plus the uncanny combination of gore and sex, where could you go wrong

Seems like the years of me not owning much 18-rated stuff is over. I currently only own 2 18 DVDs (Afro Samurai: Resurrection and House M.D. Season 5), 1 blu-ray (Mardock Scramble: The First Compression) and 1 game (Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge).

With Deadman Wonderland and Nisemonogatari, guess I'm an adult now, yay! xD. Reminds me that I need to pre-order the Bakemonogatari BDs.

Most of the movies i own are 18, it really isn't a conscious effort on my part, the movies i enjoy just happen to fall into that age category.
In terms of anime, i have a few 18's, like berserk, baccano, rin, black lagoon and panty and stocking.
but it is a little coincidental that i'll be buying 2 18's in such a short time period, cause it's not often i do get anime with that rating.

When I first turned 18, one of the first things I did was walk in to HMV in my school uniform and buy Total Recall on DVD. I totally expected to get ID'd, so I was actually looking forward to getting stopped. That way I could take out my ID and feel good that someone thought I was younger than I looked. Naturally I didn't get stopped  I guess it didn't help that I hadn't shaved...or that my sixth form school uniform was a suit. Of course Sod's law came to bite me on the arse a few weeks later on the last day of school ever, when I got kicked out of the pub since I didn't have my ID on me. I carry it everywhere now :p

I remember being nervous that a film would get the correct certificate for my age so that I could see it in the cinema (without growing my facial hair so I could fool them into thinking i was 15). Nowadays I'd be happy with every film getting an 18 so that I'd get a more peaceful experience ;)

Anyway I'm getting off-topic, so here's some news. Ken Akamatsu is starting a new manga called Uo Holder. I thought Negima evolved into one of the best of the weekly action shounen epics, until it crashed hard with one of the most unsatisfying endings I have ever experienced. Hopefully this one will turn out better.

The vast majority of my DVD/BD collection is rated 12 or 15, while with games it's usually 3+/7+ (Over 60% of my game collection is Pokémon). Funnily enough, I have never been ID'd for buying an 18. The only time I was asked for ID when buying a DVD was on my 18th birthday when I was buying a 15 (it was the first Death Note live-action movie). In regards to certificate ratings, I remember how frustrated I was when the 12A was introduced the year I turned 12, when there were many 12 rated films I had wanted to see before then. These days, I tend to only think about the rating when it comes to showing them to other people (Obviously. I wouldn't want my 9 year old brother to watch Mardock Scramble xD). If I remember correctly though, don't some cinemas actually hold 18+ only showings of some lower rated films, purely because some people do prefer to watch in peace and quiet?

Regarding Tiger & Bunny, I wonder if Anime Limited are going to try and make their release look similar to Kazé's? That reminds me, I still need to buy volume 3...

My local VUE has a few of those showings, though they all tend to be really late at night so you could argue they already eliminated the annoying kids by doing that

Hmm, I can think of a couple of scenes that'd push it into 18 but I'm surprised so many episodes rated there. Though it is decidedly more fanservicy than Bake.

The Twitter post adds "[del Toro] has a good facial expression!! It couldn't be that, in the near future, there might be a Hollywood live-action adaptation! Oh my goodness...!?
Holy ****.

Is this the time we baton down the hatches and prepare for the worst?

James Cameron's been sitting on Alita for years hopefully because he's taking his time and waiting for the tech he'll need.

I just don't see someone coming in and doing a good live action Madoka

Just out of my UK Releases, I have 42 which are rated 15 or 18.

Plus 10 or so which have been ordered.

Didn't realise I had quite so many.

My 18s are Berserk TV, H.O.T.D. OVA and Ninja Scroll. The imports would/are also 18 include Baccano!, Black Lagoon and High School DxD.
Most of my short anime collection are 15 rated and 12 rated (must get more 15/18 rated to prove to others that it isn't for children!)

Personally, I think the biggest flaw with Madoka Magica is that it is anime - in that it is truly an amazing story that won't receive the widespread attention it deserves because "It's a crazy japanamatoon and they iz all rapey". Converting Madoka into live-action would be tough though, considering the costume designs and the witch scenes - it would need one hell of a budget.

I think Warner Bros. are very interested in the property and the possibilities with it though - they gave del Toro his copies (why 2 copies anyway? One to give to studios?) and they are distributing the third film in the U.S.

Wasn't del Toro mulling over a live-action adaptation of Monster a few months ago? Of the two (Monster and Madoka Magica), I feel that is a more viable candidate for the transition into live-action regarding what is more likely to pull in an audience.

A major issue I can see with an IP such as Madoka Magica is its subject matter - magical girls aren't the focus of any Western IP I can think of, unless Powerpuff Girls counts. This in mind, wouldn't that completely devoid an adaptation of its progenitor's most salient aspects - subverting and deconstructing elements of the magical girl genre?

When push comes to shove however, I'd rather del Toro stick with what he's best at - original IP. Neither Monster, nor Madoka Magica need Western adaptations; if people are put off by the presentation, screw 'em.

One suggestion that I saw on ANN was del Toro using Madoka as an inspiration for an original work, like how Pacific Rim was inspired by Kaiju movies without adapting an existing one. Yeah, there was actually one good suggestion (I also saw some saying to make Kyoko black because she's religious and poor....erm, no).
