The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Ah I saw that list of Kodansha titles a few days ago and got so excited!! xxxHolic Rei, My Little Monster and Say I Love You are all definites. Can't wait to find out what's been happening in xxxHolic Rei!

Then I saw the 2 rereleases... someone's going to have to stop me. The urge to double dip is going to be too much to control. Especially in terms of Tsubasa if the omnibuses are particularly pretty.

I wish they were rereleasing the BR manga, but hey ho. I remember arguing with my mum for about 2 weeks about her letting me watch the film when I was 13. I didn't understand why she'd let me read the book but not watch it...

ION, the director of Serial Experiments Lain has died from cancer.

i wish they found a cure for that, its a shame RIP

Jerome has been teasing all morning about Fairy Tail on Blu-ray, also with talk about going back and re-releasing Parts 1-4 on Blu as well.

He's giving it the same intensity that he gave the pre- FMA Brotherhood 3-5 Blu-ray build-up, so this looks like it has a good chance of happening.

The American Fairy Tail BD release is an upscale, but it still looks purty. I imported Parts 1-3 from America specifically for the blu-ray (have yet to buy #4). The FUNimation discs are Region A/B, so there's easily an opportunity for MangaUK and FUNimaiton to team up to cut costs (like they did with Evangelion I believe).

Only saw the story just now. Nakamura may not have been an especially prolific director, but he was clearly very talented and he will certainly be missed.

But didn't Manga say that they would never do any BD releases where the video is upscaled.

FMA Brotherhood is an upscale, so it wouldn't be the first.

So apparently Haiyore Nyaruko-san W is the first native 1080p TV Production with Henneko also around that (900p up).
Not only is it nice that we are finally starting to see TV series animated at higher resolutions, it's great to see that J. C. Staff are finally animating at above 540p. Come on people, please stop buying DVDs now! I'd hate to see shows animated at higher resolutions and still only see crappy DVD releases outside Japan.

Section23 Films November '13 Slate

Maiden Japan:
Patlabor The Mobile Police (TV): Collection 3 (DVD/Blu-ray) - 11/5/13

Sentai Filmworks
Divergence Eve: Seasons 1 & 2 Collection (DVD) - 11/19/13
High School of the Dead: Drifters of the Dead (OVA) (DVD/Blu-ray) - 11/26/13
Hiiro no Kakera -The Tamayori Princess Saga-: Season 2 Collection (DVD/Blu-ray) - 11/5/13
La storia della Arcana Famiglia: Complete Collection (DVD/Blu-ray) - 11/26/13
Little Busters!: Collection 1 (DVD/Blu-ray) - 11/19/13
NAKAIMO ~ My little sister is among them!: Complete Collection (DVD/Blu-ray) - 11/12/13
Yumeria: Complete Collection (DVD) - 11/12/13

I'm glad I didn't get the HOTD OVA from Manga. Not only is Sentai's release on BD, but it's also dubbed and has an RRP of $9.98.
Little Busters being released so quickly is worrying though. There's no doubt in my mind that it's going to be crippled in some way, whether it's 1080i or locked subtitles.

Thankfully though, after the torrent of July/August releases which I want to get, the later months of the year are looking pretty quiet for me with HOTD OVA and Little Busters being the only ones of interest. I may have to get Sentai's HOTD for consistency though. Oh and Fate/Zero of course! How on earth could I forget about that!

Henneko is above 900p? Damn, that must look super sexy on blu-ray.

Don't worry about it people. Buy the format that suits you best.

I actually quite enjoyed Nyaruko. At least, the comedy parts anyway. The drama was pretty terrible but fortunately they were only limited to like one episode.

I'm not a particular fan of the show, but I would actually be curious to know if Manga do intend to release the movie. I got more enjoyment out of that than After Story.
