The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

The Fairy Tail anime ended in March because it was catching up to the manga too quickly (it also ended mid-story arc 9.9) and has been repeated since then. I imagine that what they mean by a "relaunch" is, once the repeats have caught up with where the anime finished, it will start up again with new episodes.

They really need to take their time with it though. The manga has still only just finished the story arc the anime was on when it ended.

An expected delay? typo? because if they expected it surely the date would be 30/9/13 from the get go.

Good to see them giving a decent amount of notice

Nice, looks even worse when you consider it's been available in America since the 12th of June last year, AND can be imported from Amazon.com for £13. BD even works in region B players.

Yep, that was a typo. Was meant to read "an unexpected delay". Apologies for any confusion.

Thought I'd post this since it's one of the bigger titles.
The Steins;Gate movie, which is to be released on the 13th of December in Japan will include English Subtitles.
What are the chances Funi might do a GiTS Arise with this and release it as an import w/Eng Booklet? I'll buy it regardless.

Also, maybe Bakemonogatari's sales were so low because people were waiting for the blu-ray? I expected this would happen.

One Piece only selling just over half of what Dragonball Z did...I wonder how Toei will take that? I know that One Piece is big in Europe but is the least successful of the big three in the states and considering how we're more like America than mainland Europe (as much as I hate to admit it), I imagine that will repeat here.

When it comes to One Piece you also have to consider how many people have imported it over the years. Having such a massive gap between the initial US and UK releases is going to affect sales. Hell, go and look on UP1 and you'll see that the US releases are not only cheaper, but are at least a full 6 seasons ahead. (I don't follow OP so I don't know where the US release is in comparison)
I do wonder if One Piece met Manga's sales expectations since they only included Slipcases with the first Series and not the Second onward.

Maybe Bakemonogatari's sales are low because the market where HSoTD, One Piece and Naruto out-sell every other home video release by a country mile isn't the right one for it.

Regarding Bakemonogatari, to me it's because of two reasons:
- The release was faulty (wrong discs in) so they postponed the release til this month.
- Everyone is waiting for the Blu-ray release.

Let's hope it doesn't end up into another K-on fiasco (4 DVD parts with everyone waiting for Blu-ray, Manga cancels Blu-ray due to lack of sales and high cost).

Dragonball Z had a massive delay too.

Oh...so not even the first print One Piece Collection 2 DVDs have slip cases? Urgh....

And they didn't even try and release season 2 on blu-ray either T_T.

On the positive side, the K-On! Movie is getting the Blu-ray treatment.

Four Reasons, the two you mentioned as well as
- Being a Sub only release
- the fact that a majority of the UK audience has shite taste

I also highly doubt that the Bluray will be cancelled since MVM are sharing the costs with Hanabee in Australia.
Some Bluray sales are also likely to be gained from American importers who are raging about the price of Aniplex's sets.

Regarding sub only, the Monogatari series is quite complex from what I hear so I'm perfectly fine with this being sub only.
And yeah, the UK audience is a bit terrible considering they grew up thinking anime is hentai or dangerous for children (I hear this was due to something that occurred in the 90s when old Manga UK were around and BBFC's change in the classification system).

I'm sure Bakemonogatari will do well enough, hell it would smack Manga in the face when they realise Subbed only titles can sell on Blu-ray.

I actually picked up Neo and MyM (or whatever) recently and both had fairly negative reviews of Bakemonogatari in them. I was shocked as I don't really know what the show is about, but had noticed that they have a significant buzz online and in anime fandom, and was looking forward to the bluray.

I often flick through those at WHSmiths and look at how they rate things. I've noticed they consistently do not like the titles I like.

Quite frankly they are a waste of space for reviews, not because I often find I disagree with them, but rather because the internet provides a wealth of views and opinions. Why pay for a magazine with a reviewer of unknown tastes when you have dozens if not more people rating and reviewing, often with far more detail.
