The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Conan, I'm not the biggest fan of Viz either but you've been doing nothing but rant about how evil they are for not doing things exactly as you wanted. Everyone is sick of it. I don't think there's an anime fan left in the whole of the UK who hasn't got the message that you dislike Viz. For the sake of everyone's sanity please do something more productive with your anger if you want to keep voicing it; perhaps you could make a petition for them to prioritise Android next or hurry up with back issues or something like Josh has done with Nintendo region locks. Heck, I'm more than happy to sign it.

Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, the third part of the Rebuild of Evangelion is coming soon from Scotland (Loves) Anime, for Scottish owners.

Loves Animation made the following announcement on its facebook page:

We're hosting the UK premiere of Evangelion 3.0 at SLA [Scotland Loves Anime] but that's not all - a chance to see the first two films on 35mm reel as they were meant to be seen on the big screen.

Our friends at Anime Limited just announced it too – but we’re very proud to announce we will be hosting the UK premiere of Evangelion 3.0 – You Can (Not) Redo!

Not only that though, we’ve worked with them and our friends at Manga UK to bring the original theatrical versions of the first two Evangelion movies to the UK – so both 1.0 and 2.0 on 35mm reel! So you’ll be able to enjoy the Evangelion films as they were intended to be seen in Japanese cinemas in a quality that suits them, a rare opportunity! Dates and ticket pre-orders to follow in due course with the rest of our line-up.

To make matters even better we have a few other cool surprises on the way with regards to the Third Impact Tour, no guests just now but we’re working with partners on some other neat things Evangelion-related so watch this space.

Excited? Will you come and show support for the franchise and see them on the big screen?

We’ll be back in early August with our full line-up so in the meantime watch this space!

Congrats to our huge Scottish contingent (and those travelling over that way to see it)! SLA never seems to disappoint.

I hope that Evangelion 3.0 is at Edinburgh too, as Glasgow clashes with the Pokémon XY launch weekend and as I'm in a high position on a big Pokémon forum...I kinda need to be there.

It's probably not the right place but here's as good as any, I guess, the cross section of videogames and anime is such;

Giant Bomb have reported the passing of Ryan Davis today, aged 34. Whilst no cause of death has been established (beyond that it happened on the 3rd of July), it is of note that this happened during his honeymoon making the situation all the more worse.
Davis is, of course, remembered fondly by GameSpot and Giant Bomb readers (and listeners to the Giant BombCast) and, will without a doubt be missed by self same.

I should use that as an excuse for things more often :D

"AUKN needs me!"*

The mention of it being part of a Third Impact Tour makes it sound as though there will be a few chances to see it.

Will the forum break down if you go away for the weekend?
Considering how I'm the Section Head of the Bulbagarden Video Games section, if anything big happens and I'm not there...

Depending on the line-up, I could easily go to Edinburgh though.

Huh, interesting (vaguely surprised anyone in the PAL region could get to such a position), lord knows Bulbapedia has eaten many a personal man hour.

Pom Poko gets the Blu-ray treatment in Japan for this November at 7140 Yen.

Walt Disney Studios Japan has announced that Studio Ghibli and Isao Takahata's Pom Poko anime film will ship on Blu-ray Disc in Japan on November 6 for 7,140 yen (about US$71). The release will include subtitles in Japanese, English, French, German, Korean, Cantonese, and Mandarin, as well as audio tracks in Japanese, English, French, German, Finnish, Korean, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

Video extras for the release include original storyboards that can be viewed alongside the film, the recording script, a collection of trailers, and an exclusive rakugo reciting of the Tanusai story by the third-generation Shinchou Kokontei (the film's narrator).

Porco Rosso was the most recent Ghibli title to go into HD, released in Japan this month. Therefore these two will be most likely be up next in Studio Canal's next batch of Ghibli Blu-ray releases in the UK.

EDIT: Only Yesterday also got released in HD.

Only remaining titles left include:
Ocean Waves [I Can Hear The Sea]
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
The Cat Returns

I imagine it'd be Only Yesterday before Pom Poko?

Wait a minute you're correct, Only Yesterday did get the treatment.. my mistake.

Seems like Hanamonogatari of Nisioisin's Monogatari series will be "presented seperately" from the rest. I imagine this means either online or DVD OVA, but at least this confirms that Monogatari series will be running on TV for a little while yet with plenty more series to look forward to.

Also, the Fairy Tail anime series is being "relaunched". Don't know if this means re-booted (which wouldn't make sense as I can't imagine they'd already caught up and passed the manga?) or it's just resuming from where it left off. I'm following it at DVD pace anyway so it ending in the first place didn't make any difference to me, wish Manga would hurry up and get the next season out though.
