It's not normally my sort of music either, but I have a real thing for downbeat material set to an upbeat tune. It manages to evoke a kind of gleeful abandon that sits very well with me. A lot of Manic Street Preachers songs are like that too, particullarly the early ones like Little Baby Nothing and La Tristesse Durera. who would have thought you'd be able to sing along to catchy tunes about the objectification of women or forgotten war veterans?fabricatedlunatic said:Apparently the Gibert O'Sullivan songs were so badly received by MI viewers that they only lasted one week. I always skip the horrible things when listening to my song collection CD, so their omission from the R1 DVDs caused me little heartache.
You just wouldn't let it lie, would you?fabricatedlunatic said:Little Baby Nothing is an awesome song. Cheesy as hell, but awesome
Argh, I just can't talk about that song and not mention it. I mean, it's more Bruce Springsteen than MSP yet, like Springsteen, it somehow transcends the cheese.ayase said:You just wouldn't let it lie, would you?fabricatedlunatic said:Little Baby Nothing is an awesome song. Amazing as THB is (Faster and P.C.P are up there in my Manics top 5) I find that Gold Against The Soul is the album I keep coming back to. An unusual choice as a lot of people overlook or even outright dislike it.fabricatedlunatic said:I have a love/hate relationship with MSP. They've written one of my favourite albums (The Holy Bible) and one of my favourite songs (Motorcycle Emptiness), but I can take or leave ninety percent of their output.
