Plan to though it'll have to wait after xmas now - should have put it down on my xmas list for family to get.

All the Yen Press Yotsubas I couldn't previously bring myself to buy because they wouldn't fit in with my ADV versions of volumes 1-5. The sheer volume of Yotsuba I'm missing out on finally outweighed my aesthetic concerns.

Well, at least for the next year or so there'll be five volumes of each, lending our collections a pleasing symmetry. The release of volume 11 next year, however, may prove to be a tough moment for the both of us.

Also... the first three volumes of K-ON on DVD. Wanted to wait until vol.3 was out 'cos that's where Azusa makes her first appearance and gosh darn it she's too cute. I blame all those scans in Megami Deluxe. And ilmaestro, that evil genius bastard.

Well to be exact, Azusa joins in the last episode of volume 2, although her role in that episode is pretty small...

I swear Mum 'borrows' money from me whenever a new K-On! DVD is due out. I'm bugging her to at least give me £20 out of the £60-odd she must owe me now..

I know the feeling, my aunt owes me £65... although in this case it's because I upgraded her PC with new parts rather than selling the parts.
I probably ought to remind here...

Anyway back on topic.

My willpower faltered when I realised how easy it was to import from Amazon...and then discovered Fullmetal Panic Fumoffu on BD was sub £16 in expedited delivery.

Also ordered the first series for £18 inc expidited. Normally I'd have been OK to save £5 and leave them on normal, but with Xmas coming, I figured it'd probably the only way I'm likely to have them beforehand.

My brother will be back from Uni then, so he'd be gutted if he missed the chance.

K-On! volume 3.

Mum managed to pay me back just enough to buy it and pay for her Christmas present. Probably the last thing I'll buy for myself this year...T_T

I cancelled my order for Fate/Zero box 1, then placed it again with TRSI. Both are almost precisely the same price today, and both have similar customs exposure potential. But TRSI's comes with an extra piece of paper, and I have more faith in the dollar wobbling in March than the yen. There's also the ultimately meaningless political angle that it shows a (tiny) market exists for nice things outside Japan this way.

Glad that the US version is identical and doesn't lose the important (to me) drama CD. I was worried they'd ditch that as an excuse to bring the price down a little due to the language barrier.

Now the gift indicator just increases the allowance (apparently to £40 from £15 by today's rules). The sender should have just given it a low nominal value in that case and marked it as a gift.
"Should have" done, but it would still have not been following the letter of the law afaik,
lol, following the law when breaking it hurts no one or even mildly inconveniences anyone.
That has no bearing on my concepts of why the maintenance of law and order is important (and is a questionable statement either way), but I have less than no interest in discussing that here so I'll leave it at that.

This is almost the exact reason why I don't want to buy from TRSI. I don't think you've fully thought through the slippery slope that would be Japanese companies thinking they can direct sell to people abroad rather than obliviously letting us use Amazon Japan etc.

Also, I don't think that market exists at all. If these people were really bothered, they would already have preorders in. If there was suddenly a larger number of these releases, I don't think they would see as much attention as KnK and F/Z will, in their position as extremely rare examples of such a release.

Yu Yu Hakusho:The Movie + Eizou Hakusho Set,well thats my final order until the newyear and up to date on all my 2011 releases,now to start putting those pennies away for christmas lol. :D

That's fair enough, and I agree that it would be annoying if they started regionalising things even more. For some reason, most of my JP imports seem to be in the annoying category already with me having had to jump through hoops with reshipping for several purchases in the last year. It's definitely much easier (and cheaper) to just go to Amazon or Yesasia etc and slap down my credit card.

In my case there's an additional factor though which I feel I have to vote for - subs really add a lot of value for me as it means I can watch the show with my other half, who isn't confident with raws. In this case the JP release had subs anyway (and he's been watching the simulcast with me, a rarity!) but I want to add my vote to the crowd of people who are definitely buying due to the subs' presence. There's no way Aniplex can tell if the people buying from Amazon JP and co are encouraged by the subs or just part of the huge wave of Japanese Fate fans. Since in terms of disc space and effort there's almost zero cost adding subs these days (and most series already have them made for simulcasts and screenings) I find it very disappointing that it's still a minority of Japanese releases which actually include them. I want to be acknowledged that much.

What you're saying isn't wrong at all though, so I'm afraid my political agenda is just slightly different here ^^;

I also agree that if they do this more and more the sales figures will tank. KnK and F/Z are both very luxurious titles in the first place with crazy fanbases. Heck, I don't even like the Fate series much but got completely hooked by the simulcast. What Aniplex USA is doing though has generally worked well for me; their experiments are all over the place (sub only AoEx, deluxe Madoka Magica, LE OreImo etc) but for some reason their new releases always fall into my "desirable" category so far no matter what the format ends up being. I'd have paid a bit extra for AoEx to have a nicer release (though it's still much better than most US companies' usual efforts), but I probably wouldn't have "Fate/Zero"ed something like OreImo blind, even though I am enjoying it very much. It's a delicate balance and I hope they don't make any big missteps.

I think my problem is my natural paranoia has me starting from the position of "they are on the verge of ****ing something up please stop now". ^^;

Fair point about the subs to some extent, but again for me it's something where all I worry about is JP companies coming up with some excuse why releases should be even more expensive/regionalized in sales/somethingsomething so that they can add subs to them - like you, different personal agendas. I am happy to re-buy certain shows in US or UK form if I think my sister or one of my friends might watch them with me.

At this rate, I'm more worried about the 'native' R1 companies screwing up and vanishing off the face of the earth :( and then there'll be even less choice for subtitled releases, so I want to prepare my backup scenario. I think if I had a bit more confidence in R1's continued success, and the quality of the products, I might be less disloyal. S23/Sentai seems to be the strongest these days even though they've already gone bust before (and I still can't work out how they fund some of their projects at all).
