The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

The best short in Memories is, by far, Stink Bomb though. Magnetic Rose is good, but it's far too confusing.
Though I was hoping that Otomo's own contribution would be the highlight, I have to admit I found Magnetic Rose to be such an exceedingly competent work (within the constraints of a psychological horror) that the following two films seemed to be merely light relief included after it. Stink Bomb had its moments, and Cannon Fodder shows us a visual style we wouldn't expect from an anime, but neither of them constitute the most vivid memories (no pun intended) I have of the compilation. Rose isn't one of my favourite films, but within its genre it may well be.

Samurai Champloo Roman Album. I wasn't even aware of its existence until I happened upon it while browsing TBD. There's not enough of this sort of thing released in English. Or maybe there is and I'm just yet to find it all.

It's not, strictly speaking, either anime or manga, but I'm sure nobody really cares.

Do you really need artbooks translating into English? :p

Go for a browse on YesAsia. I have Rei Hiroe's Barrage, Yoshitoshi Abe's Niea_7: Scrap and Lain - An Omnipresence in the Wired, Gurren Lagann Yoko Portraits and Dirty Pair: Complete Artworks (which was sadly disappointing and far from complete. There is a lot of text in this and it's about 90% black and white).

I'd kill for the now unavailable Akemi Takada Patlabor: Now or Never and the Haibane Renmei and YKK artbooks.

The episode guide, interviews, profiles, notes, and whatnot certainly benefit from being translated into English. It means I can read them.

I have the Yoko and Nia portrait books. There isn't much text in either of those yet I still find it frustrating not being able to read the little they do contain. Same when I used to buy Megami.

I keep meaning to start buying Megami again. But hot damn if importing magazines hasn't been hit hard by the exchange rate. It could be because I still use the Japan Center Bookshop - does anyone import magazines from anywhere cheaper?

Otaku.co.uk sell Megami... for an eye-watering £13 per issue. Eep.

I'm thinking about subscribing to Megami Deluxe instead. It's printed twice a year and contains the most popular images from the previous six months.

We really need a nosebleed smiley.

Just seen your top ten and notice Lain and Haibane. Have you seen Paranoia Agent and Kino's Journey?

Oddly enough i got Kino's journey yesterday and i watched the first few episodes of paranoia agent a couple of days ago. I like what i have seen of the two so far.

I also bought Ninja Scroll and Lupin the 3rd today, along with Bleach vol.7 and Shoulder-a-coffin-Kuro Vol.1.

Destiny?

Anyway, they are great shows. there are threads in the forums to discuss them, maybe you could give it a bump later with your opinion on them
:)

Got Ghost Hunt Part 1 of 2. Been waiting ages for this as i enjoyed it when i saw it in original japanese. Nice to have good quality visuals too :), just a shame that Darker Than Black and Claymore have been delayed again!
