The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

In case anyone's interested, Axel Music are offering free shipping to the UK until the end of the year. They're not exactly cheap compared to, say, DVD Pacific, but there's no chance of customs charges.
 
I can't see myself importing anything new for a loooong time with the pound being so weak. The last time I did was when 1 pound = 1.71 dollars, and I'm glad I did.

I'll still be importing from SecondSpin when they do free shipping + 20% off weeks, though - there's no other store that allows people from around the world to get stuff at bargain bin prices for the same price as Americans.

That attitude is fine, and very respectable...if you make enough money to not run into debt. Throwing £50 at a set that's worth no more than £20 is crazy when you aren't rich enough to do it without feeling it. It's plain stupidity if you spend silly amounts on one item to support the anime industry when you don't have a lot.

As far as I know, the retailers will buy the stock from the wholesaler at a set price, it depends on the retailer to set their price, so it's best to get something for as cheap as you can find it. The extra money only benefits the retailer, not the anime distributor.

Singles are about the only thing I can import now. I can't even get some of RightStuf's cheap thinpack releases anymore, as even they'd work out being terribly expensive if I were to be charged with customs.

Likewise. What's made it even worse is that the drop happened in literally a day, going from affordable to a vast amount more per item. That's the shock, I just can't buy anything now. And just when the industry was going over the boxsets.... Damnit. I could get so much for under the customs limit before this drop. I have a feeling we aren't going to see such good exchange rates again for a number of years. 1.3~1.6 seems to be the average from 1995 onwards, until it started getting to 1.9~2.1, so I feel like I've been lied to all this time, though I'm very glad I did buy what I did when I did.

Mine too. I'm intrigued. Not only does it have multiple languages in the manga, but has "Made in Japan" and Jasrac logos.

I've yet to confim the region, but it looks like it's exactly the same as they got in Japan. I imagine the Japanese are going to be a bit annoyed when they find out we payed 1/3 of the price they did. I'm not complaining like. ;)

Charcoal grey Blu-ray cases look classy as hell too. Please let this be the end of blue ones...

The only annoying thing is, on the subject of multiple languages, just watched the prologue followed by the 1st 2 eps and the prologue isn't dubbed and its only on for 5mins. Seems a bit strange to leave just this part. Anyway gripped to it already, its fantastic

Oh and i totally agree the cases are slick :D

Want to buy more anime but I must be patient. I have been told I'm getting the Wolf's Rain definitive set for Christmas though :D

The exchange rate is going to effect what I buy for a while, as others have said so much good stuff coming at the wrong time. It was great getting $30-35 sets under the duty limit, that won't happen now.
