Berserk (The TV series)

Powered through all 25 eps of this over the weekend, and have to admit I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would - or maybe to put it better, I didn't feel like I got much from this that I hadn't already got from the films. While in places the characterisation benefits from the longer running time, in other places - like the Doldrey episodes - things spin out for a little too long. Surprisingly as well, even though the TV show is an 18, and there's lots of blood, it feels pretty tame - you never actually see anything graphic, and the sex scenes are only ever really implied.

Blasphemy, lol!

Interesting that you watched the films first though. It's probably because I watched it the other way around that I found the films a major disappointment. Although it was nice to have an ending with the movies. I found the films rushed through some of the character development & I preferred the music in the TV series too. Hoping to get round to watching the TV series again at some point to see if I still like it as much as I did.

Oh yeah, the music was much better in the TV show - found it really quite atmospheric, and it properly played up the 90s feel too.

The movies definitely aren't perfect, and the CG is dodgy in places - but like you say, it's nice to have more of a proper ending, it felt really weird having seen them first to then have the TV show pretty much leave you hanging.

In my eyes, a lot of the plotting in Berserk is in many ways just a backdrop to the real meat of the show - the characters, and the TV show definitely keeps that intact. I kind of liked how, seeing the films first, I knew what happens - so through twenty or so episodes, there's this constant sense of dread hanging over everything as things march toward their inevitable conclusion.

But really though, the visuals in the final film just take things to a much, much darker place. I still rank The Advent up there with Overfiend as one of the most mentally harrowing things I've ever seen, it just properly screws with you.

Worse thing is the TV series only needed 1/2 eps max to finish it off. Really bugs me that it was so close and from what I heard they ran out of money (not sure if this is accurate). I guess at least one good thing is we now know what happens.

Yeah the Advent was crazy strange, my wife really didn't like it for that reason and that's probably why I won't be 100% sure what I think till I've seen the films again. Tbh I didn't like the 1st one until a 2nd watch so maybe I'll appreaciste them more next time.

Wolverine The Anime Series
8/10
Wow I was actually very impressed! Much better than the Iron Man anime.

There isn't much in terms of plot here. Shingen kidnaps his daughter, which also happens to be Wolverines girlfriend, and Wolverine sets out to find her. That's the main plot anyway. There are twists and turns and other sub plots but this is the main focus.

The series is pretty much a brainless action show. Fighting, fighting and more fighting! The fight scenes are a lot of fun and well animated, so you're always entertained. In fact, it felt like Ninja Scroll (the Movie and TV series) at times due to its bucket loads of fight scenes and violence. So this series definately requires you to turn your brain off before watching.

I also give this series points for having a ballsy ending. It had me pretty shocked. I don't wanna say anything because it will ruin it, but it was its a fairly good twist (to me anyway)

Overall, Wolverine is a very entertaining, action packed anime. if you're looking for an anime that focuses more on action then story, then you should totally check this out.

Yesterday I watched

The Devil is a Part Timer - 10/10

Brilliant anime, I can only hope that this doesn't join Accel World in the same category of anime that sold well enough in Japan to get a season 2 but haven't.

and just finished tonight or now early morning lol

Ben-To - 9/10

Blind buy and turned out to be a lot better than expected, who would think a show about people fighting over half-priced bento woulda been so entertaining.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Maybe just a bit too cliched and i think they tried too hard to make the audience cry but despite of that i really enjoyed watching it. Not classic tier stuff but i highly recommend watching if you want something emotional.

7.7/10

I 100% agree with this. Both Devil is a part Timer and Accel World need season 2's *smile*

Wild arms

This was a badly made ANIME. I think they was trying to make something like trigun.....but epicly failed.

The editing is below average
The English dub was bad
The story was bad ....nothing stood out.

Pretty lame really...but I guess it was kinda funny.

5/10

Koe de oshigoto

Ok I dare someone to turn up the value and open the windows while the watch this anime because it would be AWESOME if they did lol.

I like the take on the voice acting but it's a shame it didn't go anyways.

7/10

Outlaw Star 8.5/10

Really fun show. An enjoyable space adventure with a likeable cast, some good music and a great DVD transfer. Shame we never got the second series/OVAs

I thought it was rushed in the end and we didn't get to the back story's of the other charecters

Yeah that's true but I felt I knew enough about Suzuku and Aisha to be Ok with that but we knew next to nothing about Jim.. Obviously a second b season could've rectified all that. I'd like to have seen how Jim and Gene teamed up though.

Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple - 9/10

reminded me a lot if Hajime no Ippo just that the hero takes part in deadly street fights and martial arts battles instead of boxing.

Solty Rei -7.5

Found this pretty enjoyable - considering it's nearly 10 years old, the quality of animation stands up pretty well too. The first volume is so-so, but when the stuff with Rose kicks in in volume 2, it gets properly good - she's a fantastic character and some of the self-contained episode stuff is very nicely, concisely done.

Tokyo Godfathers - 8.5

I'd put off watching this for a while as it always looked kind of goofy to me - plus I felt it was kind of weird watching what's heavily touted as a Christmas story when it's not Christmas, but I'm so glad I finally got round to seeing it - it might even be my favourite Sataoshi Kon film now after Perfect Blue. It's just so heartfelt, and the comedy is spot on. Brilliant characterization - it felt so lifelike at times you could almost imagine it as a live-action film (something Kon is always pretty good at).

Dark Myth - 4.5

Another of the old-school Manga Collection I've slowly been working through, and easily one of the worst. Poor animation and a plot so completely mired in arcane Japanese mythology it's almost impossible to follow - this just plain sucked. There were some weirdly gory parts in it too. The dub was awful too - the cast feel like they were reading a telephone book, there was that little life in it.

Bubblegum Crash - 7

Really didn't expect to like this as much as it did - it's aged way better than a lot of other stuff from its era, even if the fashion and music hasn't (but I love that!) - as a Blade Runner-lite bit of sci-fi fun, it's pretty enjoyable, and the four-some of girls that make up the main cast are pretty enjoyable too.

I thought dark myth had something going for it but you are right about the animation and plot....but I like how adult the anime is...at least it's not in school or moe.

Tokyo godfathers is a good anime Christmas story it was pretty good.

Solty rei.....I thought was good too but they could of at least put the ovas in the right place.

I love bubble gum crisis..... I have it on my favourite shelf I have the whole series to a.d police to crisis Tokyo 2040..... but I prefer the older version

Full Metal panic-8/10
Full Metal Panic The second Raid-9.5/10

I really enjoyed the first Full Metal Panic but I felt the second raid was a lot better. To me it felt a bit more focused with a more enjoyable villian(seriously Gates is awesome) and the action scenes were absolutely stunning.

Dr slump and arale movies 1 -5

I hate them.... yep I hate these movies

They are gross
They make no sense
And has the most annoying character I have ever seen in anime ever ever arale..........please just die already.

This kinda reminds me of bobobobobobobo but worse.

I can't believe akira toriyama the creator of dragon ball z made this crap.

I know it's for children but I think that should come in to question.

All of them.......1/10

Nekomonogatari Kuro-9/10

I don't think I liked it quite as much as Bake and Nise but I still really loved this. Visually interesting and well written as always. Can't wait to move on to Monogatari Season 2.
