[Overseas] Anime News & Announcements

There is a better master for the original film, as broadcast on Japanese TV in HD, but Jerome has said the upcoming UK rerelease will be the same master as the previous release.

That's baffling - why go the bother and expense of remastering a title as big as Ghost in the Shell and then not release it on Blu-Ray/only allow your licensees to use the old transfer?

Apologises for the delay (again), same issue as before - I had a Uni lesson at 7-9pm (flips table).

Nice looking set, but I really can't imagine Manga bringing it out like that - they didn't for Beyond the Boundary after all. I feel like Akame Ga Kill was a test case, and personally I can't see them trying to emulate that here, especially as this set is even larger. Manga's bread and butter is cheap / high street, and a set like this wouldn't fit into that - especially as I imagine with a show like this, it'll probably sell more on DVD still anyway.

You say that, but my local HMV had copies of AgK's DVD CE. They literally don't stock any AL CEs and they only stock 1 or 2 AL standards, so maybe it worked out better for Manga than we'd think.

I was under the impression AGK and Parasyte sold OK for them. its just the haste of getting them over here and ready for the UK market. I cant imagine returns are that high.

Considering Manga have a partnership with HMV of sorts, with the whole HMV loves Manga promo, the fact they have more Manga stock than other distributors should come as no surprise. I wouldn't take it as a sign of sales.

Back when I had HMVs in my region I always noticed that Manga stuff had better distribution arrangements than the more niche companies. I would have to special order Beez/MVM titles while most Manga releases were on the shelves automatically. Though it probably also said a lot about HMV and the traditional distribution model, since I ended up buying online exclusively and all of those branches closed down. Especially when they stopped taking special orders and pressured me to order online through their website instead (as soon as I have my credit card out and I'm online, I'm more likely to go to Amazon/AOL/wherever rather than the website of the shop I went to earlier in the day and was turned away from...)

DanMachi LE looks cool. I didn't like the show so I'm safe but if it can recapture some of the hype it won during its simulcast it should do well.

To be fair, given it's ties with Platform Entertainment, a much larger indie distributor, it makes sense HMV would stock more Manga titles. I suspect standard edition titles work better for HMV too.

I couldn't even find Criterion BDs in my local HMV yesterday, and that's a company with the backing of Sony and an insane degree of prestige. So AL doesn't stand a chance.

I just meant for HMV to stock it, they must have thought there was a casual audience that we perhaps weren't considering.

I really dislike that DanMachi CE. I like boxes that go on shelves, thank you. Granted, I won't be buying it anyway, it was a fairly good show, but not one worth over £100 to me. If I pick up any release, it'll be Manga's standard edition.

I wonder if The Complete Mezzo Collection will be uncut... I really shouldn't think on it but I will. o_O

The US First Amendment would make it very difficult for Sentai to get in trouble, but if there's anything too contentious they might self-censor. (But that generally only happens with Human Centipede, A Serbian Film-level stuff.)

What's wrong with Mezzo? I've heard a couple of people referencing it and I'm curious as to why everyone's surprised about it?

Iirc the movie has a H scene involving a rape.
