the reason that it is so good is that it dosen't try and copy the big giantys of the mecha genre like eva and gundam. it's does it'd style which is why it is so loved. You won't regent buying it!

While i do love Rahxephon and like it more then Evangelion, you can't say it doesn't copy Evangelion when there is a lot of similiar stuff between them (although i've learned that some of Rahxephon has been influnced by a show called Brave Reideen, particually the Mu elements and the mechs attacks)

Plus i also wouldn't compare Gundam to Eva either :p one is Real Robot based and the other is somewhere between the two.

Gundam isn't all real robots, i mean i would probably call G Gundam closer to a super robot one than a real robot series, mind you i haven't exactly seen the series, more only played Super Robot Wars J, which ok is a game, but it does use the G Gundams, and from what i can tell, they look a bit less realistic than the other gundam series. Eva...yeah between the two.

As for the review, i can't really say i agree or disagree with it, mainly because i've never actually seem more than 5 episodes of the series. To be honest, i don't think i really plan to watch the series any more than that either. Yes its a classic and well renowned, but i didn't get sucked in as much as i was hoping it would, i guess you could say the many people saying "its amazing" to me didn't help that. As for Shinji, you say he and many others go emo. From what i've heard, Shinji is probably one of the most "human" characters there really is, so if it works well as to develop his character, wouldn't that be more of a plus than a minus?

 Can't believe i forgot about G Gundam actually, and your not wrong, G Gundam is more Super Robot Show styled (what with it being a martial arts anime in giant mecha). Still the main stray of the Gundam Franchise is real robot (The U.C. timeline stuff for example) oh...just remembered i guess SD Gundam is also more Super Robot show as well as a parody.

As for G Gundam on its own, i watched it and thought it was okay, at the time i knew what i was getting from it from all the comments and the trailers i saw, still have the R1 set of it. I think some people's comments about worst Gundam ever should be resereved for Seed Destiny or G-Saviour

I've put this off for a long time but can someone tell me what "going emo" actually means.

I think its just another way to say that they are becoming depressed, and start not caring if they live or die.

That happens in anime all the time though (usually not portrayed very well) but I only ever hear Eva described like that.

While i'm not going to argue with that i think Eva is described like that mainly because past the halfway point most of the main characters get like that towards the end of the show. In one instance it completely destroys Asuka to the point where she's just unresponsive

what i want to know is how eva is reguarded as emo in the first place. besides the fact that shinji is a whining mummy boy

As i said above its because of the depessing events that go on and the reactions of the characters :p

Well that's true but the word emo has now come to be a by word for depression and the like. Ironic since i know some 'Emos' who are only emo because of the style and aren't depressed in the least. To those watching the show nowadays they will use the term freely. You can't go to them and say "You can't use that word as this show was made before that word existed"

Talking sort of off subject for a second. Fafnar seems to be a bit of a forgotten show along the lines of Eva and Raxphon, which I preferred to Raxaphon.

Back on subject. I do enjoy Eva but agin as with many people I don't think it really deserves so much hype. I am really not a giant robot or mecha fan but unlike a lot of shows I can appreciate the other things Eva does well.

Eva doesn't get a lot of hype relatively in comparison to other anime. There's a moderate amount of people who really like it and an equal amount who really hate it but most people find it just okay. There are many other shows that are of a much lower quality that get far more attention. Just look at Naruto. Naruto is really nothing special and yet generates so much attention and discussion. I only stopped watching it when I started watching Avatar (which has problems but is 10x's better) and realised I was wasting my time.

The whole "emo" idea for anime never seems to work for me. I don't get how people actually find someone in a particular series emo. To be honest when describing a character i'd always rather have more detail, as thats rather vague, and explains next to nothing in my opinion. "Becoming evasive of others" or "depressed due to events around him/her" always appealled to me more as it gives a far better picture as to the actual state of mind of the character and why.
