MCM Manchester '15 x Otakon '15 News Thread

In my opinion, Beyond the Boundary was terrible. Kyoto Animation do some fantastic shows, and this is the first of all of them I really disliked.

I'm quite disappointed with Manga's announcements. While there are plenty, none seem to be for me. I've noticed out of all licensors in the UK, their titles appeal the least to me.

I'll be interested in seeing Garm Wars, but I haven't heard many good things about it - or any of Oshii's other live action ventures. When his two masterpieces, Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer and Angel's Egg are still unlicensed and yet this gets picked up...I weep.

And I think Manga missed the boat by not giving The Last: Naruto the Movie a theatrical release half a year ago. The American Blu-Ray release is just a few weeks away.

Fairly disappointing set of announcements between both Manga and Anime Ltd for me, nothing really of interest besides BBB. Yet more time goes by where Kiniro Mosaic goes unlicenced.

Hmmm Animatsu doing live action... Unexpected. Probably should have called themselves Japamatsu.

They've announced live action films before - Parasyte, Halo: Nightfall and Dead Rising: Watchtower off the top of my head.

I'd like to see them release some of the myriad of Takashi Miike and Sion Sono films that are as of yet unlicensed here

Somebody else has Assassination Classroom? So who the hell is that then, doesn't feel like the kind of title MVM would normally go after.

Hmm, Animatsu confirm that Assassination Classroom has been licensed, but not by them. Surely AP would know this, so when he said "we like it, so you never know..." 2 plus 2 equals....

I suspect their live action stuff will easily outsell their anime output - it taps into a wider horror / world cinema audience.

I'm excited for Beyond the Boundary and will be getting the new season of Magi, but yeah, the other Kaze licenses are pretty unappetising.

Anime Ltd all the way in terms of what I'm really looking forward to though.

Well, I'll wait and see on the Gundam blu-rays, as I have the DVD releases, but will gladly upgrade if I think it warrants it. I'll get R in G for completion sake, which is why I'm hoping for Turn A and the rest of the unreleased series getting a UK date soon (and it seems like they will, eventually).

As for the rest... meh. Nothing that's getting my ... excited... meter up?

Jerome isn't sure if Aniplex will work with them again in the future on their titles, but hope they hope so - it's up to Aniplex!

Wow... is there some bad blood there? Perhaps the only reason they haven't licensed further Aniplex titles since Madoka is because of that alleged "contract confusion" with the series? Then the only reason we got the movies from them is due to no one else wanting to release in the UK?

Not neccesarily, if he had it for definite. Would it not have shown up on Viewster already (like BBB did)?

Actually come to think of it, the Viewster staff have mentioned liking AssClass on twitter a few times, but I don't think anybody has European streaming rights for it yet. So maybe they do have it, and there's some kind of silly hold clause or something....

Any reason for this, from the wording I take if Aniplex are the ones who don't want to work with Manga?

It did seem weird that Anime Limited got Sword Art Online II, only a few weeks after Andrew said he didn't want to jump on anybody's else licence on the Anime Ltd. podcast.

Or, maybe Aniplex just really like Anime Limited?

Or perhaps it could be about the way Manga UK had to handle Sword Art Online. Many people hated the four parts idea and let's not forget the cover art controversy and the fact that Part 1 and 2 were never fixed at all.

The way I see it, Andrew has pretty good connections, so if Jerome knew it was licensed, he'd likely have known too, so why give the "maybe" style answer?

According to FUNimation's website, licensing for AssClass is being specifically handled by ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM Committee, instead of a single company, and there's no major corporation like Aniplex or Bandai Visual involved in the show's production, so I'd be surprised if Andrew had any connections within those companies.

And perhaps Jerome knows because FUNimation tried for English-language rights and couldn't get the British Isles, rather than because anyone told him as such.

But Jerome does?
