Manga Entertainment need to take a chill pill

Ok. See, here's the problem.

PAL is 25fps.

But NTSC is also 30fps. Which, surely, means they have to speed up that aswell?

Or, if they use Teleciding (adding an extra 2 frames per 3 frames), why doesn't PAL do that?

Digital video frames are subject to VAT in PAL territories, hence the deficit. I blame Royal Mail.

The latest batch of Madman conversions brought to the UK by Manga have an odd trait to them. The episodes themselves will be native PAL conversions, but the textless credit sequences in the extras will be NTSC-PAL conversions, so you have a direct comparison between the two versions of the opening, can see the difference in pitch and tempo..
So the Madman native PAL conversions that you've seen haven't been pitch corrected? And do you notice the higher pitched music and dialogue only when directly comparing with the NTSC > PAL credit sequences or is it something that you automatically notice as sounding "off"?

I echo maestro's sentiment about Blu-ray. It's nice to not even have to consider this unpleasant NTSC/PAL business.

Agreed, if only they'd grow a few and stop all this region nonsense. Three regions is about two too many (to the point where Funi is about 90% done with them anyway).

I've been watching PAL all my life and have never noticed pitch alteration and speedup because I've never had the correct version to compare with. It only stands out on these new Madman releases because they have the PAL version and the standards converted versions side by side for immediate comparison.

For example, I've watched movies and anime, loved them, enjoyed them, then bought the soundtrack CD and listened to that, and on the way from my DVD player to my CD player, my brain has forgotten the PAL speedup, and the music on the CD sounds just the same as that in the movie, even though it's 4% faster in the movie.

Some people have perfect pitch and notice the change straight away. I'm the reverse, I notice visual problems straight off, and it took me years to get used to watching NTSC on PAL CRT sets, as there's an annoying flicker as the video plays back.

It's been sorted now I got a flatpanel display that can show progressive video. NTSC progressive displayed at 24 frames per second is the way to watch anime on DVD. It's a shame that not all US anime companies encode their discs progressively.

I've only ever noticed it on Durarara but it was blatantly obvious as soon as the OP started playing, possible because (IIRC) the music plays during the menus also but at the correct pitch.

Wow, that really is a gem. I don't know whether to be offended that a "professional" representative of a "professional" and well established business is addressing potential customers in such a way, or if I should be endeared by it?

The day before, the Twitter competition was 'humiliate yourself for a chance to blag DTB S2.' Post your most embarassing childhood moment to Twitter.

It was like the Twitter version of The Word. Next up would be licking a granny's armpit.

They said I ask too many questions because I asked about their latest competition and that I'm an enigma.

I think I pissed him off with my comment about why I don't have a job (Well, that's not the main reason at all 9.9) =3.

Isn't it just Jerome? And isn't Jerome more-or-less in charge at Manga UK anyway? So wouldn't you just be asking Jerome to fire himself?

Basing on the mental strength he is showing on his tweets, I suppose he could be able to fire himself and then blame ConanThe3rd for what happened.

The perfect crime...*shifty eyes*
*knocks over vase*
IT WAS CONANTHE3RD!

It is bizarre how Manga UK are the only company where following them on Twitter makes me buy fewer of their products than I did in the first place.
