General TV Discussion

Hmmm with what you've said there NormanicGrav, I am pondering whether to risk reading them now then as like with Game Of Thrones, I don't want anything I read to spoilt the series for me lol. I am shed excited about those who you mentioned for Season 5. Intrigued as hell!!!

There's a huge amount of differences between the comic and the TV series aside from the arcs themselves, I wouldn't worry about spoilers that much.

I only read The Walking Dead comic up until shortly after the Prison arc. I think I'll just stick to the TV series. Like Dani with Game of Thrones, I don't want to spoil my enjoyment of the show, by knowing what comes next in the source material.

Regarding Game of Thrones, however, it's the other way around for me. I have put off watching the show because I want to read the books first. I've heard that the books are better. It's just finding the time to sit down and read them, which is the issue.

Watching Game of Thrones every Tuesday with my Mum. I have about 4 episodes of the last Season of Dexter to watch but that's currently on hold as I'm now watching Supernatural Season 8 :)

How are people not talking about Game Of Thrones?! :p

HORY SHET! Shocked beyond all belief with this weeks. Cannot believe there's just two episodes left :(

I usually just watch the TV show is one go when the BDs come out since I've already read the books, but there are some excellent parts being covered atm so I might have to check it out.

I watched the first two seasons last year and I like them but thanks to the ridiculous hype I've been spoiled already for Season 3 and 4 which isn't on my priority list at the moment. Thankfully the Breaking Bad fans actually shut up before they talk about spoilers.

I've read the first 2 books and am totally up to date with the TV version. I really like it.

At first I was really enjoying Silicon Valley, but as the series went it got weaker and weaker. If they make a 2nd series I'll check it out, but if its on par with episode 8 of the first series I'll drop it without hesitation.

On the other hand I've been watching Farscape on bluray. Wow it looks good. Great effects and damn good acting across most episodes. Just finished series 3 episode 18. I've been watching a series a week. I cant believe it first aired 15 years ago! I'm a big sci-fi fan, massive Star Wars and Trek Fan (yes both, but a bit less Trek, though I've seen all of it and listened to most TNG audio books and dramas at work) and I still say Farscape is the best outer space sci-fi ever made. I just wish the sci-fi channel hadn't messed about which ended up them not making the planed final fifth series, but at least we got the Peacekeeper Wars fan funded ending. If not the final scene would of been one of the worst endings to a TV show ever!

Farscape is totally GDLK, remember buying it very slowly and very expensively when it first came out on DVD which I have since sold. You might have convinced me to pick up the BDs!

£55 for all 4 series on amazon UK should be reason enough!

Thats 4086 minutes or 68 hours. Well worth it, just for the massive £ to minute ratio.

Has anyone else been following Sky's new one, Penny Dreadful? The writing feels a bit patchy, but the casting is top notch and I'm finding it quite compelling.

Ah, the trailers passed me by entirely - I'd only read about it beforehand. It takes a group of unrelated characters from classic literature and links them into the same continuity, gradually bringing them together in Victorian London to battle a dark force from ancient Egypt.

While it stops short of being just an unlicensed adaptation of Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, it does clearly borrow very, very heavily from that (with possibly a smattering of From Hell for good measure). The writing isn't as clever as Moore's version, but it's less self-indulgent and it cracks along at a fair pace.

I'd reserve judgement on it just yet, but the name is quite apt - it's engaging, pulpy entertainment.

With a free Netflix trial I've been enjoying US House of Cards. More slickly produced and less theatrical than the (also brilliant) UK original, it still manages to be very engaging even if you're familiar with the latter. I could do without the somewhat obnoxious product placement, but I guess this is the future of advertising. Props to whoever decided on that accent for Spacey's Underwood, perfect for a character who behaves abhorrently but you just can't help but find charming. Like Dr. Fontaine from L.A Noire.

"More than sharks love blood" is definitely going in my repertoire.

Ooooh yeah Penny Dreadful is something my Mums recording for me to watch when I find time!

That, Hannibal and Bates Motel :)

Episode 9 of Game of Thrones was ace! I cried lol.

Cannot believe next week it'll be over :(

Well that's Game Of Thrones done and dusted for a year! Probably the least thrilling ending out of the 4 seasons. That's cause they didn't end it where they should of :p

I knew at least one vital story point that ended up happening as I just thought that it NEEDS to happen. Didnt expect it to happen as it did though so still got a slight surprise.

I now have to wait until October for The Walking Dead now! DAMN YOU!

Made In Chelsea has finished now too! :( thank god they're having a 6 episode special in August. Im such a geek :p

I've had nothing to watch on TV for a long time so I've been doing marathons on Fringe, finished Season 1 and currently on Season 2.

I also can't wait for The Walking Dead Season 5, the next arc is going to be interesting. I also hear Banshee Season 2, Falling Skies Season 4 and Ray Donovan Season 2 will be around some point in the summer so I'm looking forward to watching them.

And yes I'm like the only one who has yet to watch Season 3 and 4 of Game of Thrones.
