So first impressions are very positive, I delayed starting it because I was tired of anticipating the generic Gacha game opening sequence of "the world is screwed, you have amnesia, go pull waifu's to fight back." Even the best written games in the genre still use this trope or parts of it to open up their world building. But shockingly that isn't what happened in this game. The opening chapters have quite a bit of comic relief and introduce their characters like it's a SOL anime, which is another trope but is still a breath of fresh air for me. The world is still screwed and you still have to pull waifu's to save it but it introduces the threat a little bit later on, but not so far later that you get bored reading the story. How are you finding it so far? I heard it was really good from a character writing and banter perspective with the cast.

tl;dr I am pleasantly surprised. Gameplay is pretty solid as well and has a few more strategic options beyond "when do I want to time my ultimate."
Probably because Heaven Burns Red is more of a VN that happens to have gacha elements than a straight-up gacha game. Discussions from people that have played the JP version that said there's not a whole lot of FOMO in it helps. Plus, you know, the fact it's written by Jun Maeda.Even the best written games in the genre still use this trope or parts of it to open up their world building. Fugue Tingyun looks good but I think she could be skippable. I love her design and things but I want functional teams before I pull for waifu. I may consider her a good re-run pick up. will depend how my pulls look but if I go for Sunday I think that she has to be skipped for now.
Imo Fugue is designed to keep Firefly operational in place of Trailblazer. So if you love Firefly/Rappa and want to keep using them Fugue will be worth it for that.
I like break style but I don't have Firefly or Rappa so I have to consider what I want to do here. I think it's useful having at least one team that can run break for certain fights. My best character for break is probably Lingsha, though I think Himeko/Herta/March 7th Hunt are probably OK for it if built as well.
If you want my honest opinion I would skip the break meta entirely at this point if you don't have any of the characters to make it work. That meta is over and we are entering a new one that will supplant it and we have the opportunity here to hop on at the beginning.
Though of course if you want the characters because you like them, then don't let me stop you
Oh my goodness, I've been addicted to HBR since I heard about it from you. Despite my resolve not to add a third bloody gacha to eat into my limited time, there was no way I was going to resist the critical hit from a Jun Maeda game, that is a visual novel with turn based rpg elements. I love it, and I think the writing is hilarious with lots of colourful characters, as expected. But what's most impressive is the extent of the excellent voice acting for all the characters, though it does get a bit too shouty at times. It's totally Angel Beats the Gacha. Just steeling myself for the inevitable horrific tragedy all these poor sods will no doubt be put through courtesy of Maeda-san...If anyone is going to join me in Heaven Runs Red I got an invite code ptn32itgrntznmf4 for an extra 1000 qaurtz
