For Criticism, ???? and Profit.

I do rather like that. I'd go so far as to say it's one of my favourites of your pictures to date.

Apologies if you've answered this question before Prof, but are there any particular artists you draw inspiration from? That picture in particular really reminds me of something (other than Redline, no offence intended) but I can't put my finger on quite what.

Ah, cheers man :)

That's a good question though. My hero always used to be Tsukasa Hojo, of City Hunter fame. I always liked the realism of his work, but over time, I think I've picked up little bits from a lot of different places. Lately though, I've been quite impressed with Kouta Hirano's work on Drifters. I like his really heavy use of black on everything, so there might be a bit of that feeding into JP there.

Thank you :)

In a surprisingly quick follow up, I have another one today as well. My current college project involves creating a brand of whisky aimed at women and, after I told my friends in the office about it, I started drawing this as a bit of a joke. As I didn't have much else to do, I kept working on it and I think it turned out pretty good:

Not so sure about the right arm though and her beehive was a pain.

Excellent. :D

I don't know whether I'll be able to use the drawing or not, but I'll probably paint some colour into it anyway, if only for my own amusement.

Was never that happy with the likenesses when I last tried drawing the main characters from Breathless, so I thought I'd have another stab. This was only going to be a preparatory sketch, but it started to look kinda nice, so I just left it quite loose.

Annoyingly, I can't remember what the dialogue is for this scene and my copy of the film is still on loan...

That is nothing short of excellent. And done on an iPad? Bugger me.

Whiskey Woman scares the hell out of me in a sort of Stepford Smiler fashion.

Heh, cheers man. While I don't think I'll be trading in my cintiq any time soon, the pad is pretty decent as a sort of portable digi-sketchbook. All I had to do on the pc was touch up some of the finer details (like the hairline) and add the colour layers.

But yeah, I think it's that woman's smile that makes the picture so unsettling... Might see if I can do something about that when I get to colouring it.

Thanks man :)

The one of Marty has been very popular, so I'll try and do something else in similar style soon. ̶M̶a̶y̶b̶e̶ ̶D̶o̶c̶ ̶B̶r̶o̶w̶n̶.̶ I feel like I should try doing a realistic portrait of a woman next time, I've never actually finished a female likeness in this sort of style.

Thank you :) It was a bit of a slog trying to get all the reflections on the boots, but I think it was definitely worth it.

I don't think there's much I won't have posted here already, but while I think of it, I've got my portfolio site up and running at http://www.alangraham.net, with contact details on it, should anyone be interested in commissions.

Any design, illustration or motion graphics work considered. I am also available for weddings, parties and bar mitzvahs :)

Great stuff prof! There's a really massive jump in quality between the initial sketch and the carefully finished final piece. It's a really great piece, I like the boots/ metal leg thingys :)

What I did when I should really have been watching Kino's Journey. 90% iPad, 10% Photoshop.
Damn, I like a lot of the stuff you've done before, but this is really striking. I would echo ayase's reaction to it being done on an iPad, but regardless of what you were working with this would be impressive.
