Evangelion 3.33 You (Cannot) Have It

I've just had an email come through from Amazon UK saying that they've cancelled my order because "Manga Entertainment is not releasing this title".

Hmmm.

Just checked and I've got the same email too.

The Death Knell doth toll for Manga UK......sad times (im assuming this could be because of some sort of winding up with regards to Manga UK activities, their staff leaving etc rather than Funimation retracting the license)

Wow, that's pretty screwed up - as this would surely have been Manga's biggest release of 2015.

Anime Ltd to the rescue???

It could just be that since there is no release date they've finally removed it?

But yeah, if they aren't releasing it then I think it's the start of the end of Manga...

After waiting all this time waiting it's been cancelled. I will have to look at the US release when it comes out now and it'd better be region free on blu-ray.

Manga UK has fallen so far and they've messed fans about so much I hope they drop out completely, give up their licenses, and let somebody decent take them up.

Perhaps they are cancelling the BD to make it DVD-only, like everything else in their upcoming schedule, and need to create a new solicitation. Or making the BD exclusive to an Eva 1.11-3.33 boxed set!

Sorry, I should moderate myself for trolling.

This was my first thought as well lol

I'm actually more amazed so many people still had it preordered (says someone who has also had the US version on preorder for heaven knows how long at this point). It just goes to show what a big title it is, and how Manga UK need to do some serious PR to keep these dedicated fans happy.

At least the Australian version is likely to be UK-friendly even if the US one is locked.

Strange how the MangaUK Twitter says it's been cancelled and they're sad about it, yet also that it's still on the cards. The person managing it must be having a really rotten day with so many questions.

If Manga UK truly have cancelled the blu-ray release of Evangelion 3.33 then all I can really say is...bloody hell.
There's mucking up the release of The Devil Is A Part-Timer and there's cancelling the blu-ray of a television anime like Ben-To, but cancelling the blu-ray release of freakin' Evangelion is just something you don't do; especially given the chequered history of the release already.

Heck, despite owning 1.11 and 2.22 before upgrading to blu-ray, I rebought them on blu-ray so that they'd eventually go with 3.33 in my collection. How tragically ironic.

What happened with the release of The Devil is a part timer? I just finished watching it last week and I can't say I noticed any issues.

I think with the uncertainty of Manga UK and questioning their recent issues and changes, I will start importing the Eva's and Fairy Tail Blu-Rays.
I think barring Harlock, there's nothing else that they have which currently interests me, and don't have a lot of faith Blu-Rays will be forthcoming either for anything they license.

I was also holding out for the Madoka Magica and Sword Art Online films from them, but shall just import now.

It's a shame 3.33 is "cancelled" or whatever is happening with it, but something I've noticed recently is pretty much all of Manga's blu ray releases on Amazon are going up and up in price which normally means they have less and less stock and aren't getting more... as an example most of their releases that normally float around the £20 - 25 mark are well over £30. Evangelion 1.11 is currently up for £21!! I paid £7 for it on Amazon probably 6 months ago.

It's happening to a lot of their older DVD stock too - I think Clannad Afterstory is currently at £37 when I'm sure at one point it was closer to £20.

I never thought I'd say this (and I may yet come to regret it) but with all of these worrying observations about cancelled releases and stock going out of circulation I'm starting to miss Jerome's infuriating outbursts. At least they contained hints at what was going on at Manga in between all of the drama.

I'm surprised we haven't been told anything about Animatsu yet...

Edit: The latest tweets from the sainted PR individual who is having to handle all of the responses are saying that Eva is still on the way, it's just been delayed again.

I think Amazon's poor wording choice have resulted in this mass-outcry; and I believe MangaUK won't be cancelling the UK release of Eva 3.33 - all they have done is just cancelled the option to pre-order, as you can't really have a pre-order listing without a definitive release date. Once a date has been set then it will become available for pre-order once again.

No-one knows when Eva 3.33 will be released (not even the americans and they are the ones producing the dub) and so instead of disappointing customers (and retailers) with constant delays and release date alterations its easier to say "we are not selling this product at the moment" and cancel pre-orders.

Manga UK have already tweeted (to at least 20+ people) that they will continue to release the film, despite the confusion.

Either way I'm still going for the Funimation release, I much like the booklet (hopefully it's in the final product) and it's packaging. Also it's supposibly region B compatible which is a massive bonus.

What the heck is up with this title it's like a never ending saga.
