Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

I doubt I'd have time, really. For now, I'm focusing on movie and series reviews. But if folks want to get into discussion in the threads there, I may very well chip in with my two cents on whatever issues come up.

I'm still testing the waters a bit. I want to make the videos the highest quality I can, which is my first goal. I've had a little tech upgrade this week which should help with that. Once I've got the content to a place where I'm mostly happy wth the presentation, I might start looking at doing other things and breaking the template I've set for myself.

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

Ok if your happy with that then ok.

But it is a good idea to expend and try new things ..... when you do you should do something like

Subject matters
Or
A top 10-20 list
Or
The worst character or great character list
Or

You know something like that.... but up leave it up to you bud

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

Thanks for the suggestions, AF. :D

I have some ideas for things I might try out down the line. Right now, I'm just feeling my way.

Oh, and... doing backflips over the views my Berserk review is getting. It went from 20 to 320 overnight! Aaaawwk!

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

I have a request...

You see I suck at grammar and putting things together....so I was wondering if you could have a look at my scripts when I'm done with them if you could and maybe give me a few pointers

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

I really wouldnt have time, unfortunately (as it is, I'm having to juggle getting the videos for my channel ready with my freelance work, plus all the usual soul destroying real life crap)

But I can give you one tip that might help. If you're going to record your commentaries anyway, you might do well to have your script together as a really simple list of things you want to mention. Get it printed out, but have it broken up so that it loks like this:

1. Greeting and intro.

2. Point number one.

3. Point number two.

4. Point number three.

And so on.

Have everything there in your printed script, but space it out so you can find things at a glance.

If you know what you want to say and roughly how you want it to come across, you won't really need any editing for grammar or other issues.

Just beware of overly long sentences. You'll run out of breath, or start to sound unnaturally forced if you read from the script by sight.

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

New video is up on the channel - not a review this time, more a rumination over and invitation to discuss Manglobe's recent demise.
(Yeah, I posted it a little earlier than the Facebook page mentioned it would go up.)

Video reviews are back to business as ususual on the 15th.

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

The latest review is up!

This time, in keeping with the recent Gundam excitement emanating from NYCC, I've cast my eye over the Gundam OO movie - A Wakening Of The Trailblazer.

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

BUMMER!

That'll happen, though. My first tryout video (which was rough as a badger's back door) I lost the entire intro section and greeting just because I saved the file into a non-editable format. I should know better than that! Nnng!

Still, it's all good experience. You learn by doing, and by making mistakes.

Actually, come to think of it, my next video, which goes up on the 29th, is the polished up version of that try-out. It's quite something to look at it now and see how far it came from the rough cut. You definitely get better as you go along.

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

Righty ho! Mini-update time.

I made a bit of a boob with my video schedule, so after this week's review (which goes live on Thursday) I have nothing ready to upload. BUT... there are no problems, only solutions.

So, here's a thing. My first ever viewer poll! How's that for audience participation? Let me know in the comments on Youtube which of the three shows in the video you'd like to see me review.

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

Can't remember if I have a youtube account, so I'll just vote here for Summer Wars.

Madoka (film or series?) seems like a tricky one to tackle, so good luck with that one too.

Re: So, I went and started an anime review channel on Youtube...

Cheers, folks!

Just an FYI - I'm closing the voting for this on Thursday, when my next review goes up.

Incidentally, if any of you CAN comment over on Youtube, I've found out that really helps my channel to grow and reach people who aren't necessarily seeing it. Apparently comments within the site factor into the Youtube 'engagement' algorithm, which decides who the site shows your thumbnails to, and other such gubbins.

Spooky how technology works!

But please know that I truly appreciate every shred of support and each comment, wherever it appears.

What software you use

To be honest, I'm fiddling about and using different things all the time. For the time being, videos are put together in Windows MovieMaker (which is simple, but has a few drawbacks) and I'm either using Audacity or Soundforge to record and edit my commentaries. I'm really NOT happy with the gappy, gated quality of the commentaries at the moemnt, so I'm looking for ways to fix that.

Things will be changing soon, though - I was recently donated a full suite version of Sony Movie Studio (which I believe is what used to be called Sony Vegas) by an old pal. There's a TON of bundled extras, and of course I have access to the fonts I've accrued during my comics career. SO... lots of different toys to play with.
