Beez Entertainment Discussion

Also take into account BEEZ can afford the time and money to pay Andrew to give long and well thought answers, which is a nice service. But can you think of any other UK anime companies which can the afford the time to answer people questions on a forum. If they could afford the time to answer questions in deep on a forum then they can afford a 30 mins to few hours a night to run online shop. But they maybe already doing that as it is, if the Bandai.co.uk is part beez.

I think you should read this thread a bit more thoroughly before posting this kind of stuff.

Andrew spends time on this forum as and when he wants, out of hours, this isn't a service paid for by Beez, it's just something that came together because Andrew wants to be here.

Just out of interest, why are you so concerned about the Bandai webshop? It serves its purpose, whether or not you think it's poorly laid out, and doesn't have big enough discounts.

EDIT: Actually, exactly what are you trying to get at here? I've just looked at the website myself and there's currently a huge sale going on, and there are a huge variety of titles listed there.

Just thought I'd better mention Andrew, a lot of online retailers still seem clueless as to the fact that the Freedom and Gunbuster blu-ray releases actually are blu-ray releases. HMV & Amazon included.

I expect if it's not sorted soon there'll be a lot of confusion and e-mails telling customers "whoops, it's not a DVD, do you still want it?" or returns when people recieve blu-rays when they were expecting DVDs.

Isn't Gunbuster going to be a DVD release though as well? (Freedom is a blu-ray only release i think)

I don't actually know (I did have a little thread search to try and find out, but couldn't find the release info). That's why I thought Andrew might either need notifying or be able to shed light on the situation. Amazon list the Gunbuster blu's seperately but the Gattai! set only as DVD, as do Play. HMV only list the Freedom set as DVD (which I'm pretty sure is wrong).

Gundam 00 licenced? Whoo hoo!

And speaking og Gundam... and chance of Gundam Seed Destiny Final Plus being released? (Along with the Between the Stars epilogue to Seed?)

From my research the SEED Epilogue is on the final volume of SEED in the extras section, subbed only though

I have noticed that a lot of websites (Crunchyroll, Hulu and Adult Swim US) have a sizable amout of anime legaly uploaded for public concumption, however, most of the legaly uploaded stuff is region blocked.

To wit; is Beez working to get shows they own (such as Code Geass) avaiable for Brittish Concumption in this mannor?

Really?
Damn, I only got a boxed set

Hmmm... then again I've been meaning to replace the Seed box... one of the disks has gone dodgy.

Subbed only you say? Heh, I can't stand the dub anyway.

I've started watching the series again subbed anyway, enjoying it a lot more and Lacus's voice is now bearable :p

Think about it he can't answer question on the top of his head. He need to go back to his office in work hours to get the required information, to answer the questions.

With the whole anime industry moving closer and closer to online only, it make sense over time to encourage to buy direct instead of another web shop, as it only typing in another web address not traveling several miles to a new store.

On the high street now only HMV (Who profit went down 50% in year because there high street store can't compete with online prices) and zavvi (formerly virgin mega stores) would sell a good selection of titles from beez, maybe Whsmith as well but there selection is tiny. In the years to come HMV & Vavvi will move towards website only as the cost of rent & staff make it not cost effect against just running online store.

The only places in the future to possible to buy anime on the high street in the future will be supermarkets which will big studio ghibi movie or some MANGA releases, no space for MVM or BEEZ. So no longer browsing the ailes of high street shop for anime titles.

Sending titles back and forth between retailers all the time aren't exactly cheap either, paying the delivery costs to sending out 1000 volumes with at least 300 of them coming back (in case of red garden volume 3 55 sold you can guess how many would be sent back) . Also the volumes are being sent back to several different retailers so you not even getting a great price of selling the items in bulk.

You can get intrest if the price is right, When ADV did the fire sale on the anime titles for 1-2+ pound there was massive interest and got at least 200 as i recall maybe even 500 orders in fee days and it would have been more if the stock didn't run out. They would made nothing on the 1 pound dvd but the ones sold for 2 pound how ever would probably made the same as the adv titles been currently being sold at play.com for 3.99 each.

It make sense for titles which are soon lose there licenses to be sold off cheaply on there own website so the whole remaining stock is sold and not thrown away and reward fans.

There is no sale currently on bandai.co.uk for anime dvds, the prices of anime dvds have been the same for ages. The layout is still poor, it still missing many of the box sets they offer and no mention of newer titles.

Unless andrew got anything to add i will make this final post on the matter as i have made my arguement in full and other people got other question to ask.

The fact is, it's not. B&M shops will always account for sales and when a large B&M shop goes bust it hurts anime distributors. B&M stores buy a lot of stock and give it shelf space, so this stock is technically sold, so the likes of Beez get their money from it, unless it gets returned. And also, as I've observed over a very long time now, casual buyers make up a large proportion of people who buy anime.

Take a look at Funimation in the US, the B&M stores demand thinner packaging that takes up less space, so Funimation change their packaging to suit this, and take a look where they are now, they have a huge percentage share in the US market and are continuing to grow when the likes of Geneon and ADV have popped their cloggs so to speak (well, -ish).

I personally think that online retailers have reached their maximum market reach, anyone who isn't completely thick knows about buying online and does so, but I don't think it's going to grow anymore. The dot.com boom and bust showed that online stores weren't going to take over all high street sales.

The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

Hi Andrew,

Received my Freedom Blu Ray box set today, just like to say what a fantastic job Beez have done with it, its great.

I do have a question though. I watched the prologue 1st and it isn't dubbed into English, even though the episodes are, just seemed a bit strange with it only being 5mins or so long. Was there a reason for this?

Any news when we will be getting Gurren Lagaan?

Yep - first release is aimed to be spring, probably March/April for the launch with a few special things planned for the series all going well...

Sorry I have been away for so long, we've had a lot to sort out of late and I'll catch up now on the forums shortly but am technically on holiday just now (first time in 3 years!).

- Andrew

Enjoy your holiday time Andrew!

But... When you get back... ;)

What have we got coming from Beez in 2009? (00 Blu-ray? 00 Blu-ray? 00 Blu-ray?) Gurren Lagann is good, of course. I've been waiting for the UK release what with these "special things" you keep alluding to.

Have to say I was impressed with the Freedom set, moreso than I expected to be. The fact it's region free and the same as the Japanese release, packaging and all is excellent. Any more of these simultaneous releases planned? I am interested though in how Bandai reconcile worldwide releases with reverse importing fears... there was quite a difference in price between what was essentially the same product in Japan, the UK and the US after all.

Andrew,

With Bandai Entertainment's recent announcement of the Kurokami (Black God) anime being simultaneously aired on TV in Japan, Korea and the USA, have you got any information on whether or not anything special will be happening with that series in the UK/Europe as well? It's a huge shame that it isn't going simultaneously worldwide... Maybe there's going to be a simultaneous worldwide physical media release somewhere down the line?
