Gunbuster 2 is a definite buy - but where are the Gundam boxsets prices? :p

Gundam boxsets will or should be about £50.00.

As most Beez half box's are £50.00.
They're £69.99 Each. 31.03.2008 / 26.05.2008. Sendit.com have it for £52. Region 1 have it for... but that's a different story :p

Region 1 lacks extras and a nice artbox though :).

By the way extras are now confirmed:

Box 1:
- Volumes 1-5
- Solid artbox
- 1 x Gundam Seed T-shirt
- 1 x Gundam Seed artbook

Box 2:
- Volumes 6-10
- Solid artbox
- Gundam Seed board game

We have opted with offering a premium release of Gundam Seed in boxed form to the fans on the first instance at present because we believe the UK fans deserve something extra to encourage them to pay the prices that need to be charged in the UK to compete :). As obviously it's not going to be possible to compete price wise on the price versus import - but we can at least demonstrate we're serious to providing extras at least!

What's a "digipack" exactly and how is it different to other packaging?

s-CRY-ed seems to get a lot of attention, though I know absolutely nothing about it! I'll still be checking out the release, though!

It looks very similar to a DVD release, but is more of a fold-out nature. For people's reference attached is what the digipack will look like :).

SOLD! Absolutely fantastic QUALITY releases there, Andrew. I'd gladly part with my money for a set like that. That's even better than R1.

Beez will continue to be at the top of my favourite UK producer/distributor list, and I don't see that ever changing.

I'm immensely excited about being able to get into Gundam at some point.

I don't think I've ever seen a set with an artbook before. If these sets don't sell well, I'll be extremely upset!

Actually, can you give any estimates of the amount of sets you will sell?
Or numbers of sets that have been sold for your other collections (ala Wolf's Rain/Witch Hunter Robin etc)?

Many thanks in advance =)!

Yaaay! Lots of information! Thanks Andrew!

I'm definitely sold on the Gundam sets. I hope the t-shirt is more geek-chic than just all geek :p Really looking forward to seeing the artbook, too! Nice dates, too! Was expecting a longer wait. However, Sendit.com have the set priced at €81 which is, frankly, absurd for 5 volumes of a series. I hope the final price is much lower, or I don't think I'll be getting this :/

I like the look of the Gunbuster 2 DVD case!

I'm in awe, guys, seriously. Beez once again provide. <3

Though the Gunbuster 2 cover isn't what I expected. But whatever, it's still epic win.

Gunbuster 2 cover looks awesome, As i've seen Gunbuster 1 i'm gonna have to see this.

& i'm sort of dissapointed at a T-shirt even though it's a good idea, still i'd rather have the strike. :(

Well, if it's the same size that always seem to be given out with this sort of thing, then it's bloomin pointless for me as it wont fit. :?
The Gundam SEED boxes sound great and I will be buying them. However, I agree with Tasker in that giving away a T-shirt is a slightly flawed idea as it is so hit and miss as to whether it’ll fit. Unless this is the first box set ever to come in small, medium, large and X-large?!

Actually. If I remember correctly, the FLCL box came with a card that let you send off for whatever size you may need. I have a feeling that is what Beez are planing to do.

And - Nice looking cover art, I just checked that the USA didn't have Aim For The Top 2 in its name either, Any reason for that? Also, THANK GOD WE ARE NOT GETTING THEIR RELEASE(s).

The SEED boxes sound fantastic. In fact, the worst part of the whole bundle is... err, the Gundam SEED bit :p. As such, I'm still not sold on the idea of spending £100, but it's a good precedent for later releases.

As true as that may be, don't say that, I'm looking forward to it!

Yes, a Zeta & ZZ box set with loads of extras - now that'd be worth selling an organ or two for!!

If Beez released Zeta and double Zeta (which never got a R1 release) then i would probably die :p I would love to see Zeta get a release, even if its nothing like the boxset the amercians got. I see want to see a release for other gundam titles though like 0080 (best gundam ova ever) and the 8th MS team. Hell i would love to see the SD Gundam Shorts, though the chances of them coming over are probably less then 0%

Andrew, I know this isn't particularly relevant in this Beez thread but the problems of Geneon & ADV, could they partly be attributed to the saturation of the market? It has been great having so many titles to choose from but given that this is a niche market, have they just spread themselves too thinly?

Andrew, what do you think of the business model of having an English branch releasing animation studio specific titles, very much like Bandai does for Sunrise titles. Bandai seem to be doing very well, and seem to have had no financial problems, and always seem to be at the forefront of releasing premium items or trying out different release models.

Releasing titles from a specific animation studio means cutting costs, and potentially quicker releases. If the company has a good relationship with the Japanese company, it's much easier to get a title I would assume, and the more you release from that company the more it becomes a normality.

Maybe Funimation should release Gonzo and Bones titles, Bandai should release Sunrise and probably something else, and ADV could release Visual Key/Kyoto Animation productions.

The current business model is failing, so at least it could be tried?

^ To be honest, melonpan, I don't really think that would work. What makes you think it would?

The fact that no other business models are proving to be a particularly viable means of making a decent profit. Or so I understand.

So far as Gonzo goes they seem to be looking at (possibly) distributing their own stuff. They have self-distributed a few titles in Japan and experimented with Afro Samurai in the UK last year.

Kadokawa, of course, have begun to release their titles via their own brand in the US, using third-party companies to distribute them. Toei tried and failed to distribute their own stuff (a shame since I really wanted to own an English language copy of Airmaster :(). Viz handles a lot of its parent company's holdings.

Most anime companies do not distribute their own titles, instead using distribution agents to get their DVDs on shelves.

Well, just because one business model isn't working, doesn't mean any other kind of model will work.

I think US companies need to work on getting pricing down, ensuring there's a smaller gap between Japanese and US releases and really develop a robust, online way to sell their wares.
