UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Received my copy of SAO II today. It's nice and shiny! I have no idea what I'll do when part 2 comes out and the filler box has to go as one does not simply have a half empty (half full?) set. Maybe having smaller filler boxes in the filler box would be the solution next time ;D

MY SAO set came, really nice, great work :)

Spotted a very small issue in the booklet. The description of the young Shino in the pages detailing the main characters is actually a duplicate description of Asuna calling her Kiritos wife etc, I found it quite amusing!
I spotted that too! This is also almost the first Anime Limited release to list the correct technical specs too. The odds are having resolutions listed under "Image Ratio", and DVD being listed as 720p :D

GE is the sort of show that will be worth owning on standard ed blu ray because it's so pretty.

I'd be less inclined to agree, it sort of varies between really nice and godawful. I suppose it's interesting to see them trying something new with the character design, but that seems to be the biggest problem, sometimes that plastic-effect works, but most of the time it doesn't, and when it doesn't it's massively offputting.

It's ufotable though, so it'll probably sell well, regardless of the fact it's at best mediocre.

I thought it looked OK - it was a novelty, and interesting, at first, but you quickly get used to it and then it just becomes a by the numbers action show with slightly above average visuals. It's not a patch on Ufotable at their UBW / Garden of Sinners best.

I thought it was still looked good like Ouroboros looked awesome and I think it got delayed because Ufotable set a high standard and there is still 7 JP volumes so unless there releasing the extra episodes there will be more than 9

The impression everyone else has is that ufotable wore themselves out doing F/SN UBW and then couldn't handle immediately switching to another TV series. Some of the statements made when they first stated delaying episodes sounded me like ufotable could have met the air date, but would rather having an episode that they think looks good.

I wonder what ufo's tale anime will be like. What I am really looking forward to from ufo is the heaven's feel movies mostly because knk looks amazing and that is coming up to being a decade old soon. Anyway, I think we've derailed AL's thread enough.

I think it probably is the right decision they need to keep the quality high I don't mind the delays and i was going to binge watch after it finished after watching weekly I just don't think it can end in a week like the ANN review was like this show is trying to end I though it was setting new plot points up for a potential second cour/ season

I also expect GE to be licensed by someone in MCM but i hope it AL as i want someone else than MVM to have a ufotable release as I love Ufo and MVM haven't gave them the releases they deserve

Finally received my SAO2 set today and wanted to congratulate the AL team on a real win as far as presentation and packaging goes. I love the quality of the set, and it's so minimal, perfect styling that I wish all releases would follow. No comment on the content itself as I've not watched yet, but huge thumbs up for the presentation, I'd say you've nailed it.

As I said before, Aniplex seemingly has it for the UK, so it's likely to be MVM or Anime Ltd.

While I'm listening to the podcast, Anime Limited said that Nerima Daikon Brothers will be available for streaming soon in 'one or two places'.

The series will be available in 2016, something about the masters being the problem.

Highlights from the Anime Ltd. podcast:

(Sorry these are a bit crap, and I'm not 100% on the title at SLA they announced they have)

Anime Ltd. has Expelled from Paradise (I think that was the title they said, but that section had a lot of crosstalk so it might be something else)

SLA's Love Live screening likely to sell out, so Andrew advices buying now

Not enough space for an SLA surprise screening, there may be some events later in the year

Tokyo Ghoul was delayed to relabel discs, disc 1 will have the correct label and disc 2 will have an incorrect label, that should be corrected for the standard edition. Kerry is campaigning to keep the episode counts as it's now associated with the brand :D

Tokyo Ghoul is selling so well, the standard edition is likely to be released soon.

The Sailor Moon/Cardcaptur Sakora debate was noticed and warmed the cochells of Cat's heart. We should now all tell her we like Lucky Star.

Is it possible for AL to acquire to PonyCanUSA titles (and release them cheaply)?

They'd love to, there are some titles Pony Canyon has that they are looking to sub-licence, there are some they only have US rights to (like AoA with GOD EATER). Sound! Euphomium is on Andrew's, Jeremy's and now Kat's to watch lists.

Will there be any more digipacks?

Yes, they are only currently experimenting with the Ultimate Editions. There were too many issues with the larger digipacks. They may experiment with rigid cases inside digipacks, but FMP is on 8 discs. Andrew wishes to reconfirm that The Second Raid is 2xBD50s, he saw some conspiraces and would like us all to "calm your tits".

Why is Fumoffu exclusive to the Ultimate Edition of Full Metal Panic?

Fumoffu is standalone and not cannon. It is not based off the original light novel series, it is based off a gag manga, like Attack on Titan: Junior High (which Andrew is excited for). His comments seem to suggest there's no contractual reason for this, but they don't think there's a large enough market to spend resources on Fumoffu.

Any chance of AL getting the new Death Note blu-rays?

Andrew bets the US release is region AB, "the French is the clue for where that's going to go, it's Viz Media for starters" Andrew thinks Kaze, but won't name them for some reason.

Andrew will invest in the set, but thinks the ending of the anime is offensive to him as a manga reader.

What's going on with Nerima Daikon Brothers?
Will stream in one or two places shortly, DVD next year. The way the assets were given to them it was hard to retrieve some of them.

Does Andrew think there's a space in the UK market for a Discotek type comapny?

No. There's a lot of shows that aired on US TV, that the UK didn't get, which is challenging when doing a proper collector's edition. Gundam is interesting because it is reaching the numbers required to make the collector's edition worth doing.

Jeremy is checking Baccano!, it's well in advance of schedule, they may be able to get an advance on the release date?

How many copies would he have to promise to buy to make AL get Natsumes Book of Friends?

1000.

Have you thought about doing SD blu-ray releases?

No. The target market is different between the US and UK. An example Andrew is gives is Turn A's US DVD only release, where it's difficult to sell because it's niche and has no dub. He says he thinks AL might be able to do a blu-ray because the non-UC Gundam shows tend to be collector's in the UK. [That's a bad summary, but I think I've got the point across]

Would it be more cost effective to use an SD blu-ray instead of multiple DVDs?

Maybe, depends on how many DVDs. It would have to be around 50 episodes, and the materials would have to be ready. Only in many limited cases. They would consider it, but they won't go out of the way to do it.

DAY TWO

SAO II, part 1 is out now

Andrew would like to begin his comments with "I ****ed up". There are some small errors in the booklets, that Andrew thinks ocurred when the files were converted from approval files to print files. There will probably not be a replacement scheme, as they feel it's too minor to justify the hit.

The replacement scheme for Kill la Kill will be coming soon, but Jeremy would like people to wait a week before contacting him, due to MCM Glasgow.

The next round of Durarara!! replacements will go out after MCM Glasgow. They know people are buying the CE cheaply online, but they have decided to issue replacement anyway, something they don't feel like any other company would do.

Internal proccess have been changed to try and prevent future screw ups. They're not blowing smoke up our asses, they've also hired somebody new since then. TL;DR YAY KEITH!

AL were shocked at some of the pictures people sent them of damaged SAO II sets that looked they had been "beautifully dropkicked". They suggest contacting your retailer for an exchange, but if neccesary get in touch with Jeremy.

They've just taken delivery of some Tokyo Ghoul sets, they are pretty. An unboxing will be avaliable soon. Andrew Osmond wrote an article for them about the series called "Too Ghoul for School". Some stock will be avaliable at MCM at the weekend,

Kat recommends turning bashed SAO packaging into a mirrorball.

There will be announcements at MCM this weekend, with Tokyo Ghoul bags avaliable for purchasers whilst stocks last.

I was a little confused by Andrew's comments about Turn A Gundam as they seemed to potentially suggest they had it and were considering if they could release it on Blu Ray as that would suit the UK market more than DVD.
