UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

One of the weirdest (which I love) is the Russian release of Berserk Film 1 - when faced with no extras made a box literally from wood to add a special shine! You can see it here (I also have a copy on my shelf believe it or not):

I'd like to see the returns to Amazon.ru (or the equivalent) on that one. "Hi, I need to return my Berserk Blu-ray, it has woodworm"

Disney have done wood a few times - there was the Lion King Trilogy blu ray box set and the German release of Pinocchio as well.

Personally, while I admire nice packaging I probably never pay more for it or go out of my way to import it. What matters most is content.

I never said I wouldn't buy your release ;D I like you guys too much.
I may or may not own two different copies of Bebop, DRRR, Gurren, KLK and Space Dandy...
I own three copies of Haruhi due to Andrew's chums at Beez catching me out (I never imagined we'd get a special edition release in the UK so imported the US one to add to my JP set, but then they went and did it anyway...)

I'll be missing it unfortunately in the end this time around (probably for the best financially speaking). Hope you guys save something for London and Birmingham when I'll hopefully be there, and can sneak into the panels.

Updated the two opening posts as best as I could. I don't think i;m missing any licenses......

Looking at the wording of the recent press releases, I'm getting the impression that either:

A) The release style of Ping Pong and Samurai Flamenco has yet to be determined

or

B) They will see standard releases only, so no artbox and extras?

This is from the way the other two titles mentioned have "collectors blu-ray" in their release calendar descriptions, while these two are just "blu-ray". Maybe i'm reading in to it too much...who knows :)

The latter would make sense for Samurai Flamenco seeing as Andrew has said in a podcast that the reception to the show did not at all match what he expected, so I could see them trying to just get it out there and cut their losses? Ping Pong also only got a barebones release via funimation (no Limited Edition artbox etc) so potentially the committee or the available artwork etc will not allow for anything special?

I'll be getting Ping Pong, but if you could get Yuasa's Mind Game then that would be on an entirely different level of the spectacular.

Or even Tatami Galaxy, Cat Soup, Genius Party and Kaiba would be great pick ups.

I'm hoping Anime Limited pick up Neo Tokyo for a blu ray release, since thats never got a UK release.

The whole thing with Sunrise, like the Rightstuf deal in the US, is just incredible news. I really hope the release of the original series goes well, would love to see more classic Gundam sooner rather than later! :)

It is, indeed, incredible news and I have my fingers crossed that it might extend beyond Gundam into Space Runaway Ideon...

Yeah - always worth remembering that Sunrise are bigger than Gundam. They produced some great shows besides. Planetes, Argentosoma, The Big O, Freedom GaoGaiGar... I could go on.
