UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Hi Jeremy, did you get my PM. I know it's not always easy to spot so thought I'd say it here. It's just regarding the Durarara disc replacement.

I didn't catch it tbh, but I have actually just sent out a ton of confirmation messages and I'm pretty sure you were in there :)

Latest podcast is up;

The Shinkai Collection is moving forward, hooray!! :)

Would be up for them getting hold of Blood Blockade Battlefront (not seen it but the reviews are great & it's the type of show I'd tend to like, enough for a blind buy) & Death Parade, fingers crossed.

The question regarding package deals when it comes to streaming was very interesting, wonder if they have Arslan, Plastic Memories & Seraph Of The End home video rights? I haven't watched any of these as they're the type of shows I would prefer to watch in bulk so that would be ideal for me. I know they don't have Gundam Reconguista in G, at least they didn't when I asked a few months back so ..yeah..interesting.

@Dannielle - Just listened to the podcast, I understood it as AL buy them in a package, so all those shows you mentioned they have home video rights for.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked my question! :p

Pffft, I asked this last week and they ignored it :( bloody typical....but seriously, glad to have a answer so thanks for asking them a similar question lol Now does this mean that if Anime Limited get streaming rights, we can assume they will most likely release a BD down the line?

It certainly does appear to be the case ..

Hip hip hooray, indeed! I think this has been my most anticipated Anime Ltd release for...just about forever now!

The mention of original Gundam was intriguing. I'd certainly be down for that! Tomino's pre-Gundam Zambot 3 and Daitarn 3 would interest me as well.

I'm holding off on Sunrise Gundam releases in the USA in hopes of Anime Limited getting them.
In particular, I hope they pick up Unicorn for a full Blu-Ray set too.

Just kicking back with a cuppa and listening to the podcast. This has become something I really look forward to each month now.

Just a few minutes in - one little tidbit of trivia that might be of interest, seeing as the new FigArts Alien gets a mention, where it's described as being listed as 'Big Chap'.

I believe that the term 'Big Chap' was actually coined by Ridley Scott on the set of the first Alien movie, to describe the full grown beastie as opposed to the other forms of it that appear in the film - a necessary label, apparently, to differentiate the props during production.

Just lobbed in random, like. Just coz.

Thanks Jeremy. Sorry to chase I'm just always paranoid about these things not going through. Looking forward to getting my new discs :D

Okie dokes - that's the podcast listened to in full!

Things that jump out:

Arslan - good to hear the show's winning people over, and it's gaining ground. I've yet to see this latest version of it, DYING on a home video release for it. Fantasy stuff like this is usually a tough sell on me, but I'm already predisposed to this show off the back of the old OVA series. Make no mistake, peeps... Arslan's a quality little property, and this new show is a big deal.

I enjoyed Jeremy's comments / ideas about DragonBall Super being a candidate for simulcasting. It strikes me that even a lot of the heavyweight Japanese franchises need to reach greater numbers of people in the west to really grow legs, so that could definitely be one way of achieving that.

The question about BBFC fees influencing licensing decisions was a good 'un too. It's always stood to reason to me that there'd be little question of it being a serious factor. And the infamous Code Geass cut gets a mention. WOW, does it ever sound ridiculous the way Andrew describes it there.

Possible Gundam news in a couple of months? Colour me intrigued. I actually have a little coffee jar at home which I've been stashing my loose change into for new Gundam shows should they see release. Really interested to hear whatever might be in the pipeline.

Rage point of this month's podcast for me: The red panda has no backstory? Unacceptable! Distributor boycott enacted. Will now post nasty things about the company all over the net. There will be whole threads set up decrying this atrocious admission! Threads on Mumsnet! And letters to my MP!

~ We can also confirm some details in relation to our upcoming release of 009 Re:Cyborg. Tentatively scheduled for release in July (exact date is still TBC at this time) it will be available as a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combi package and as a Standard Edition DVD. Each version will include the film with an English dub and the original Japanese audio with English subtitles.

009 Re:Cyborg
The Collector’s Edition package will come with a booklet containing information relating to the not only the film itself but the 009 franchise a whole. The package will also have 3 discs total.

– Disc 1 (Blu-ray) containing the film both in 2D and 3D.

– Disc 2 (DVD) will contain the film along with the following extras: 2 x Film Teasers, 2 x Trailers, Promo Video and the Special Prologue. [NOTE: This is also the same disc that will be included in the Standard Edition DVD version.]

– and Disc 3 “Bonus Disc” (DVD*) will contain lots of bonus material. These being 5 special featurettes RE: Animation, RE: Sound, an interview with Director Kenji Kamiyama, 3D Preview At Ishinomaki and Premium Screening at Shinjuku Wald 9.
(Approximate run time of all extras on the DVD discs combined: 107 minutes.)

*The reason the third disc is a DVD is because the bitrate of the two films on the Blu-ray means there isn’t enough space to include the extras as well as the two versions of the film on that disc.

I hate it when this happens (Content on DVD only) but at least you guys clarified why you made this decision, unlike Manga.

I'll still get it regardless though.

In other news, any chance there'll be any special announcements at MCM London?

Actually I'm more curious about the following:
- A Letter to Momo
- Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya
- Psychic School Wars

We got an update on Shinkai so that's fine for now at the very least.

Just speculating, but it's probably because it's been up for pre-order at retailers for a long while, adding the extra cost to a bonus Blu-Ray rather than DVD would bump up the cost and AL would probably have to take the hit due to price guarantees at online retailers.

My pre-order has been locked in at Amazon for just a few pence more than £20.
Glad to see we're getting it in July. Be pretty cool to see in 3D.

Guessing I probably missed this but Amazon has Baccano down for December 28th 2015 release... :(

Untrue! Although we are held up as bizarrely not yet had the final contract (Likely a mix up as I've had others since) - which means we have packaging assets but no video yet >_>. Not a chosen delay on our part and should move quickly after that's sorted!

No harm in asking! Here's the updates we have right now:

- A Letter to Momo -> Clearing assets at last - expect late summer all going well.
- Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya -> Moving on for a Q3 release :)! More details in good course.
- Psychic School Wars -> Dub recording is beginning now so we'll have cast announcements and more soon :)!

Re 009 - Suffice to say without boring people with reasons it costs a lot more to do a BD than a DVD (both authoring and in terms of replication) that meant it would be prohibitively expensive even if we transferred a chunk of the cost on. This solution means people get everything - the bonus features and both 2D and 3D versions of the film :).

For MCM in May - I have a some pretty cool announcements - so definitely something(s) to look forward to!

That's great to hear, especially with Fate/kaleid. I look forward for that release and the cool announcements.
