[Overseas] Anime News & Announcements

When I was in Akihabara in animate I think it was, I saw loads of Yuru Camp official merchandise and it was all bikinis at the beach stuff. I mean it was a lot tamer than you're talking about but it still didn't feel right. I think there's always gonna be a market for that in Japan though, regardless of the series.
One of the Specials was basically a beach episode.
The whole show takes place between November and December and the latest English volume is the start of January so we don't know if the mangaka will go that way when we get to the summer camping, although I guess you discovered first hand how hot it gets in Japan at that time of the year.

Yeah it was 38 at the time and that was August. I wasn't aware the specials were like that but it doesn't feel appropriate for the tone of the series even. So much merchandise of it though - I didn't realise how popular it was at the time. That and Pop Team Epic.

I watched the episode and it wasn't too much of a beach episode lol. The advertising made it out to be a beach episode and instead we got an island survival episode with the usual humour you'd expect from the series. The specials are all good fun and fit the tone of the show I feel.

Betting there's more than one called Yoru Camp too.
There is, I looked.

Anyway, I think people sharing their love for characters (to whatever degree) and exploring fantasies in, well, fantasy is great and does no-one any harm (except for maybe slowly killing Ken Levine). Plus r34 communities are actually some of the nicest and most chill communities left on the internet due to the lack of judgemental people. It's about the only thing the internet is still good for, if it was ever good for anything else...

Funimation are planning a collector's edition on demand release for Dragon Ball Z:

SOMETHING LEGENDARY IS COMING...

It's been 30 years of Dragon Ball Z and we want to celebrate in the most perfect way - with you! With your help, we're going to make a collector's edition worthy of a series this big, happen. Here's a look at what you can expect from this epic collection:
  • The complete Dragon Ball Z series on Blu-ray with new bonus content
  • North America's first ever full-sized hardback artbook - available only in this set!
  • An exclusive collectible figure - not available anywhere else!
And there's so much more to come, but we can't do it without your help.

HOW THIS WORKS

In the coming weeks, we'll reveal full details of the set and open a reservation period for fans to reserve their copy of this must-have collector's edition. And while we'd like to just wish it into creation with the Dragon Balls, we're going to need at least 2,500 of you super fans to help make this happen!

We'll have full details and artwork to reveal soon - and you won't want to miss out! Be sure to keep up-to-date by signing up for emails.

F.A.Q.

WHY HOLD A RESERVATION CAMPAIGN?

Due to the high costs associated with the set, we need to guarantee a minimum number to print. We think a DBZ 30th anniversary set is an awesome idea, but we need to measure the interest!

WHY 2,500 UNITS?

This is the minimum build order for sets from our printers. This minimum makes sure that we can sell the product to you at an affordable price.

WHY ARE YOU HOSTING THIS HERE INSTEAD OF ON A PLATFORM LIKE KICKSTARTER?

The short answer? We aren't looking to crowdfund this set. We feel that Kickstarter and similar crowdfunding platforms are typically asking fans to fund the creation of new content, not something like a collector's edition which may be cool but isn't quite the same as new content. We love and support (and back!) lots of projects for new anime, new dubs, or new forays into the North American market, though!

IF THE SET DOESN'T HIT 2,500 UNITS, WILL IT REALLY NEVER BE CREATED?

We're holding ourselves to the commitment that your pledge actually means something and is more than a gesture, so if we don't hit the minimum, we will not create the set.
Knowing Funimation I don't expect them to re-author the entire series into 4:3 given the issues that they had with the Level sets. It would be a pretty stupid move if the 4:3 version was confirmed *and* was exclusive to this release only.

A little interesting tidbit I found from a collection update video. It seems the complete Season One set for Saiki K has a slipcover, despite the online image indicating it’d just be a case like Seven Deadly Sins Season One.
(See from around 7:00 onwards)

Seems to fall in line with Attack on Titan S1, too. It's not in the essentials line, perhaps that's why. But who knows how limited it might be, given how fast those slipcovers are disappearing on so many shows...

That’s probably why then. Might have to pick the set up at some point, as I can’t see it getting a UK release anytime soon.
