What Games Are You Playing?

On the grind phase of sword art online fatal bullet now. One of the weaker games in the series in my opinion.

But multiplayer is dead as hell making it very hard to get the five wins trophy...

If anyone else has fatal bullet and wants to do a spot of PvP to clear said hurdle I'd be all for it...

Oh yeah also platinumed secret of mana recently. It held up well in terms of gameplay but all the grinding that took months as a kid only took 25 hours now. How I have grown!

Completed Game #11:
Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX
[Nintendo 3DS]

While I've been going through my anime backlog, every now and then I have been checking out the Hatsune Miku game that I bought on 3DS back at Uni for the past couple of weeks. It's a fun little music/rhythm game and there isn't much to be said aside from some differences in the gameplay.

The gameplay is toned down compared to the Project Diva series where you basically need to hit X, Y, A, B or X Left, Y Up etc. for the buttons plus scrolling the analog stick for added point bonuses and the option to use the touch pad for a different way to play. It's a good game overall but I wouldn't recommend it unless you were a die-hard fan or managed to acquire it on sale like I did. The physical copies are extremely rare for the European release to my knowledge and I was lucky enough to grab one for £19.99 last year when it was £60 elsewhere.

Completed The Witcher 3 (Started 14th March, finished 15th April) A great experience, and the DLC was superb as well. What keeps me from giving it a top score is the level of glitches I encountered, but also the lacklustre final fight and frustrating dialogue paths that easily lead to a bad ending and being handcuffed to a bed and humiliated. Overall this was still one of the best open world games I've played, with great depth and character. 4.5/5

I'm now replaying The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Completed Game #12:
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Arcade Future Tone (English Version)
[PlayStation 4]

Project Diva Arcade is back! Except this time we have the English digital release version. I picked this up during a sale back in the summer and I've been in this weird mood to play it throughout the past couple of weeks. Eventually I managed to finally finish playing all 224 songs and unlocking all of the trophies available.

Project Diva Arcade is a great package containing the 'best of' songs from Project Diva on PSP, Project Diva F & F 2nd on PS3, Project Mirai DX on Nintendo 3DS, and Project Diva Arcade from the original Arcade release. Future Sound covers the PlayStation songs while Colorful Tone handles the rest. As mentioned in the past about the Japanese version, the Arcade version handles the gameplay slightly differently. Replacing the notes that require both D-Pad and buttons are multiple buttons on the same screen (i.e. Triangle, X, O & Square in one go) and instead of stars you have arrows. You can customise the button controls also to help tackle the tougher combos and notes. The engine is also different, taking a more cel-shaded like approach with the gameplay now played in 1080p 60fps also.

Overall this is a fun package, the gameplay will take at least 15 hours total to unlock all of the trophies and there are a lot of songs to go through which can tire you if you try to go through a whole bunch in one take. The trophies are easy to get, with requirements to tackle 39 songs each in Music Video mode, taking a screenshot, customising the modules (i.e. costumes), and playing them on any difficulty.

There is no Platinum trophy, however that is actually saved for the DX version which I believe is currently exclusive to the Japanese release. The DX version also has its own trophy list, don't worry that doesn't require you to tackle all 224 songs again but instead it faces the added songs included after its first digital release plus extra customisation modules and the Extreme/Extra Extreme difficulty modes for at least 39 songs. The DX version does have all of the content on-disc which is neat for folks like myself who simply want a retail copy of the game.

Finished the 360 backlog with Infinite Undiscovery. On to the PS3 catalog now starting with another Tri-Ace entry Star Ocean: The Last Hope International

Last I remember (all my free time seems to be used on anime) it's was a lot of either xenoverse 2, fighterz or shadow of the collosus (ps4 remaster) I imagine once I get the chance though it'd be a lot of god of war I'd like to get an upgrade though, I don't want to hear my old ps4 fan over kratos being a tough love dad, it gets really distracting, it's why I stopped playing zero dawn despite some time with the new tomb raiders making that pretty easy to get into

Finished the main story of God of War, absolutely phenomenal game. I mean had you told me that after the 200 odd hours I have put into Monster Hunter World at this point that the next game I played could rival it for my goty I'd probably have laughed at you, yet here we are. Honestly I had pretty reasonable expectations for this game but it blew them all away in the end, I think if you know a little about Norse mythology then you see a lot of things coming, but even then it didn't take anything away from the game imo.

My only real issue was how god damn loud my PS4 Pro got while playing, weirdest thing is it was at it's worse when in any kind of menu or the world map, it was like hairdryer loud :/ such a poorly designed console man, I hope they actually care about noise for the PS5.

Anyway, incredible game and I kinda want more (I have some collectibles to get should I want the plat, so I may do that before moving on).

Wait, the pro is loud too? How old is yours?
I got mine in December, was so loud that I took it back the day before Christmas and got a different one, which while quieter than the 1st one is still really loud at times, practically silent when playing non Pro-enhanced games but pretty bad when pushing it using a Pro-enhanced game. I think the biggest issue is the pitch of the fan makes it sound awful and it's why t bothers me so much, rushing air I can deal with, the whining of the fan I can't, and I say this as someone who uses headphones when gaming and can still hear it.

Most of the people I know with Pros complain about the noise they make (mine is louder than my old vanilla PS4), one of my mates has one that is whisper quiet at all times, I was shocked when I heard how quiet his is compared to pretty much every other one I've heard. I guess it's just a bit of a lottery, it's really unfortunate tbh.

My Pro is pretty much silent. I swapped out the HDD for a SSD though the first time I used it, so cannot verify whether that has contributed.

R

Man I wish my was pretty much silent, I'd settle for even half as loud as it is now :/ I do have a mate that opened his up and changed the thermal paste on the chip and added some thermal pads to certain parts and it did make his quite a bit quieter so I may do that once my warranty is up.

Haven't looked as much into it as I think you have but it seems abit like a "silicone lottery" there. Usually It refers to graphics cards performing a little better then average but here it seems to be quiet pros. They seem to be built a little better I imagine

Completed Game #13:
Mobile Suit Gundam Side Stories
[PlayStation 3]

A surprise addition to the completion list is a Gundam import.

Gundam Side Stories is a compilation of games merged into one genre and revamped to be connected to each other. It's an interesting game in general as I found the gameplay to be pretty fun with some exceptions, and each mission lasts a couple minutes so it's pretty fast-paced.

The issues I have with this game are the following:
  • The Lock-on: It works when it works, but when it comes to tackling multiple enemies on the screen or a certain target that you want to attack it doesn't work well at all and that is a problem, especially as it can get you killed a ton of times.
  • The difficulty: The game suffers from a bunch of random difficulty spikes and it will make you rage in certain stages. Made worse by the fact that there are no checkpoints in these missions whatsoever. Zeonic Front is the most frustrating campaign overall.
  • The gameplay: As much as I like the gameplay it is pretty repetitive so it can put off a lot of people. It's basically a third person shooter with the option to hit other mechs with a beam sword. This is an area that annoyed a lot of people as the games included in this collection are actually from different genres.
Overall this is a good game in general and while these issues are annoying the game is really cheap to own which does make up for the value in the package. The gameplay itself is in English except for the voices and dialogue which is interesting. The game itself is import friendly and regardless of its flaws it plays better than Target in Sight. In terms of playthrough the game's story campaign took me around 8-10 hours in total.

Completed Game #14:
Strider Hiryu
[PlayStation 3]
I was given this game by accident but since I was allowed to keep it I decided to give it a shot since it's a fairly short game. Overall it's pretty fun with its fast-paced gameplay and cool boss fights. I played through the entire game on Hard difficulty and it does show some challenge but once you acquire Health upgrades and if you search more the Weapon upgrades you'll be able to get through the game without issue. However the boss fights in the last quarter of the game are challenging if you don't make use of the special attacks (like the Eagle one).

The trophies for this game are also relatively easy to acquire and I have almost all of them (just the 'Beat the game in under 4 hours' and 'Finish the game on Normal difficulty' left to acquire outside of the Platinum). I spent around 7 hours in total on the game and it's worth picking it up if you have the money - in fact it's on sale for super cheap as part of Sony's Golden Week sale. I recommend you acquire the PlayStation 4 version to make use of the 1080p 60fps that it has. The PlayStation 3 version is the only way to acquire the game physically and while it did have download codes for the first two PS1 games that expired back in 2016 so there isn't that much value in the physical release (the plus side is that it does offer English support).

Next up on the backlog is God of War: Ascension, which is currently at chapter 14 of 30.

I LOVED that version of Strider! So much cool stuff in there - especially if you're a Strider fanboy like me.

I think the game really benefits for expanding on some of the characters and situations you'll see in previous Strider games. And those boss fights are ridiculously good fun! I've never felt as satisfied slicing and dicing a video game boss as I have during the fights with Solo, or the three sisters. I love how the game lets you get more hits in depending on how fast you can stab the attack button.

I'll be interested to see what you make of God of War Ascension, Grav - that's the only God Of War game I've played prior to the new PS4 one. I gather it's not especially well regarded, and I didn't play very much of it when I booted it up thanks to work taking over. But what I saw was pretty fun.

Only console one (didn't play the handheld ones) I didn't play. I brought it, but the gameplay with the fixed camera was so old school by then I was bored of it, so didn’t get round to playing it. As if to show it up even more it came with the The Last of Us demo, which I played loads!
The first 2 were epic, but the 3rd got a bit bloated. I think I re-played them in the run up and thus my reaction to Ascension. Same thing happened with Uncharted 3, as good as the story was, there's only so much of the gameplay you can take.

Completed Game #15:
God of War Ascension
[PlayStation 3]
God of War Ascension is the final instalment in the Greek mythology series for Kratos (as he moves into Norse mythology in God of War 2018) and I wanted to check it out as I actually played a little bit of it back in my University's library. This is a prequel to the events of both God of War and God of War Chains of Olympus (one of the PSP games), which focuses on Kratos trying to break his bond with Ares.

Now I've only played God of War HD and God of War 2 HD so I've jumped quite a bit in terms of the gameplay but overall it's the usual combat however there's a bit of a difference - the difficulty is all over the place. This game will punish you if you do not build up your weapon's abilities and HP/Magic because it can be pretty tough in combat especially the infamous Trials of Archemedes which will murder the living soul out of you for its tactics (Magic + Max'd Fire weapon + Stomping Clone is your key to that). The story I actually enjoyed quite a bit, it's not the best one out there but enjoyable enough to see Kratos struggling with what is real and what's not due to his backstory with Ares.

Overall the game is a solid 8 hour campaign and it's not the best entry-point for the series due to how it plays out but it has a strong start while also offering a rather simple ending boss fight which is both satisfying but also not epic enough compared to the first couple of chapters. The jumping between past and present is a bit of a mess imo. Would I recommend this game? Well considering it's been said to be not only the weakest instalment but also the hardest instalment in the franchise I would say it's worth going for. I mean I got the game for £5 and it was satisfactory enough plus the graphics were very good though the framerate is not amazing (God of War HD Collection for comparison was 60fps if I remember right).

Now with God of War Ascension done I have two choices - try and acquire the HD Volume 2 collection (which covers the PSP games Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta) or go straight into God of War 3 Remastered which is on PS4. I won't be going after the God of War 2018 instalment due to massive spoilers with God of War 3 plus it's expensive for now (waiting for sales helps).
