What Games Are You Playing?

Ascension is pretty much the weakest link in the franchise, doesn't mean I didn't enjoy that one. The last time I had time to I was playing the new one. Looks gorgeous and the axe combat is a welcome change, I've only got to the second realm last time I remember, and I've been hearing the ol' blades come into it, I'll probably go back to using those all the time though

Gonna spoiler tag this, just in a spirit of not wanting to ruin the game for anyone:

The blades do indeed reappear and eventually become a permanent addition to your arsenal. However, you WON'T be able to use them to the exclusion of other weapons for the rest of the game. The blades and the axe have different properties which you require to beat certain enemies and advance.

At a guess, I'd say I'm about two thirds of the way through God of War 2018. REALLY enjoying it, and having multiple 'OMGWTFjusthappened?' moments. I really want to check out all the other games now.

110 hours later and I've finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it's fun when you finish a game because you're able to freely search about the game without fear of spoilers, it's been fun reading up peoples impressions on it but also listening to the fantastic soundtrack after completing the game, still got side quests to do and blades to unlock, looking forward to the single player dlc but for now I'm taking a little break but I'm looking forward to my soundtrack arriving later this month, the music in this game is so damn good.

Completed Game #16:
Heavenly Sword
[PlayStation 3]
This is one of those games that I heard very little about aside from being an early exclusive to the PlayStation 3. After many years I finally got my hands on the game and had a go on it. It's an interesting and quite unique experience altogether.

Not only do we have some well-done lip-syncing and voice acting (with Andy Serkis and Anna Torv voicing the main leading characters), but also a rather tough combat system and some mini-games that make use of the controller's sensitivity for shooting which works rather well and is quite satisfying when you hit the targets. The combat system as mentioned is rather tough due to the heavy emphasis on counter-attacks which can really frustrate you especially during boss-fights as it's quite weird in how you approach them. One counter-attack for instance is essentially you standing still and then hit them at the right time which doesn't always work at times.

The story is pretty basic but it has some rather amusing humour in places and I don't know if that is intentional or not. Andy Serkis is great in his role as the antagonist though. It is also a fairly short game with an average playtime of around 6-7 hours at best but it is a good game in general from what Ninja Theory have provided as their first major project. Ninja Theory for those who don't know later on developed Enslaved (also featured Andy Serkis), DmC: Devil May Cry, and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

Overall this is a good game but fairly short with some cool unlockables and some uneven difficulty at times. The final act can be a nightmare to deal with if you especially can't get used to the counter-attacks. It's worth picking up when it goes on sale or found for a very low price like I did.

This is one of those games that I heard very little about aside from being an early exclusive to the PlayStation 3. After many years I finally got my hands on the game and had a go on it. It's an interesting and quite unique experience altogether.

Funny you should mention this one: It was to be the subject of a video review (which might still appear if I can salvage it - either on Youtube now that I've been privately funded, or maybe on Amazon Prime Video.) Ran into a problem about two hours in where I discovered the eejit who'd owned the game before me had scratched the disc, and my PS3 wouldn't play past that point.

There's a used copy in my local CEX for a couple of quid that seems to be The Game That Nobody Wants. I might nab it next time I'm in so I can finish it and make my review more authoritative. It really is an interesting title, with a lot of neat stuff going on in it, from what Ive already seen.

How far did you get before? When you get back to what's shown at the start it does change the game a little bit, it's the worst for having to counter all the time. And a good copy still at your local? Anyone who still has a ps3 should have had it! Though I'd say it's not quite as good as GoW3

Last night I finished off playing Tokyo Xanadu EX +, which @Linkachu was kind enough to buy me as a birthday present back in March. I realised that this time last year I was finishing off Persona 5 and admittedly, although Persona 5 is a much more polished game, I've had just as much fun with Xanadu. The characters and story are very stereotypical and share a lot of common anime tropes, but this was more often in a fun way than a 'groan and be annoying' way. Highly recommend the game to fans of the Trails series, as it's a smooth mix between the Trails set-up and the Ys gameplay.

An update on my P4G playthrough.
Well since I discovered that romancing all the girls in P4G ends in tragedy I am now tied to Yukiko romantically, and honestly playing the game I've warmed to her character quite a bit so it's fine not to be a pimp and reject the other advancements on the social links. Can't fulfil my romancing of best girl Chie though, ah well that's what a second playthrough is for.

On another P4G note, fishing mini games are the worst, and this one might be the cream of the crap.

Puella Magi Alyssa Magica

I was meant to say Clock Tower 3

About 3 hours in to a replay

What a weird game, its got some pretty good parts to it, Starting off with one of my favorite characters, May :)

But some of these cutscenes haven't aged well or just have me in hysterical laughter at just how bad they are. Do I even need to say the name Dennis

And then it going all magical girl for the boss fights.

Its been a long time since I last played this but wow. This game is good but... Yeh

Little Big Planet Karting - PS3

I was excited to hear the servers were still online, so I got the remaining online trophies out the way. Now I'm working on the 24 hour create trophy so I can get the platinum

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late - PS3

Working through my PS Plus PS3 backlog, so far it's a nice little fighting game. I have cleared all the character challenge trophies and just need to beat arcade mode with most of them to get the platinum

Tokyo Tattoo Girls - PS Vita

Got this from the previous PSN sale. It's a fun little game and I just need to beat the story with a few more characters now. I won't be attempting the platinum trophy on this, as one of the trophies is unobtainable

Code: Realize - Guardians of Rebirth - PS Vita

Another game from my PS Plus backlog. It's a really enjoyable VN, especially as it has kept me up playing it. I have just beaten Victor's route and I can't wait to play the other routes

Finally completed Yakuza 5. It's a big game with five separate protagonists, but some sections really dragged, like Saejima's hunting sections (trying to aim was a bigger challenge than some boss battles) and Haruka's meh rhythm game stuff. When the plot got going it was fun seeing all the characters bounce off each other. Shame Shinada never made a reappearance since his story never really gets its due.

The side quests this time around weren't quite as fun and quirky, there were a few with that signature Yakuza flare, but less so than usual. Overall a solid entry, better than 4, but not as engaging as 0, which still stands as my favourite in the franchise so far.

Now I can finally pick up Yakuza 6, and complete Persona 4 Golden as well.

completed the main campaign of god/dad of war yesterday, it's a very emotional one that, particularly if you've played the previous, ball of rage power fantasy that is the previous games in the franchise. no spoiler, but from the very beginning kratos hides things, there are so many nods to what he was from early on.
when you get to change kratos' weapons and equipment it's sort of a meta game, and makes a lot more of a difference to his method of attack than a few of the previous games did, kratos' main weapons in 2010's god of war 3 are mostly clones of his blades, but in 2018 the axe gives him something quite a bit different and it's a joy to play around with
we've fought through the twilight, now bring on Ragnarok!

Started Dark Souls last night and managed to run past the first weapon you find, so was trying to kill the enemies with the broken sword you start with! After finally killing the knight guarding a door and then finding it was locked leaving the only course of action to fight the boss I was just about ready to rage quit (I know it's supposed to be hard, but that would be ridiculous), but I read a guide and when it mentioned that weapon I backtracked and found it right in the middle of the path, doh! I think I was chasing the archer from just before where I found it.

From the way people talk about that game, doors are only ever unlocked by bosses. Next room? Boss fight. Backtracking? Boss fight. Bathroom? Boss fight.

I finished much of the interesting stuff in GoW- musphlheim, neiphlhiem, the valkaries the dragons and the campaign. My shifts are finished Wednesday so I'd probably get around to my bloody roar/killing bites mashup in my haberdashery and probably try to finish a few games on steam. I still haven't finished spec ops: the line!

I'm beta testing YS 8 for the last few weeks on PC and while a bad start it is improving but still a lot to fix.
