Watched some of RahXephon and Gundam ZETA but I'm REALLY struggling to make any progress, I just don't have much interest in anime lately. I don't know how to counter this feeling I'm having. I'd like to say "Yeah, I quit anime" and do away with it all but I feel it just isn't time for me yet. We'll see what happens, though with the two shows listed - I can sort of see why I feel this way.

Maybe it's time for... Noein?
Noein was a little gem. I've started watching it after Aion mentioned how great a series it was (and how cheap it was going for in one of these online outlets). After watching it, I was surprised that this seris got so little attention from most anime fans out there. Wasn't as hooked as Aion on it from the start, but as mentioned this series gets better and better as it goes.

The one thing I can say from this is that you're not really into mecha, are you?
I thought that RahXephon was a really good mecha series, which doesn't try to be what it's not. Has good characters, animation and a good plot. The figths are good as well, although I don't believe they are the highlights of the show.

I watched the first two episodes last night and I'm sufficiently intrigued to continue. It didn't put me to sleep anyway. It definitely has potential. But the most interesting aspect thus far is the change in visual style between episodes. Here's a couple of shots of main character Haruka:

Episode 1
Episode 2

In the first episode, the characters are simply drawn but move fluidly, while in the second episode they're drawn with more detail and move less. Aside from some iffy CG, the visual quality of the series looks to be very high.

I was actually thinking of re-watching RahXephon soon. I really dug that show. It's nicely hardcore sci-fi, and I liked the measured pace of it all. It's a very intelligent show.

The only criticism I have of it is that annoying music that plays during the mecha fights. If only they'd had Yoko Kanno do more than just the opening theme.

Nana Eps 10, 11 and 11.5
Hidamari Sketch season 1 eps 1-5 (rewatch)
Kimi Ni Todoke 18

Forgot how much I loved HidaSketch so I wasn't expecting to rewatch that much when I delved into the dvd. Still loving Nana. Don't want to admit that KnT makes me "awww" and almost cry at times.

Think i've turned into a rather big softie...

KnT will actually win anyone and everyone over once they watch it, I'm sure. Even after really not liking the first couple of eps I'm now as big a fan as anyone of the show.

rofl, wtf? That's so awesome and at the same time so not awesome.

Glad you enjoyed 2.0 though, I personally think it's an amazing action movie.

also she discussed hentai in anime and the new child porn law's in the uk that affect anime with loli.
Interesting. What did she say? I'm sure the BBFC would have removed anything covered by the new law even before it came into effect.

Looking forward to watching the Eva films myself, so I'm going avoid reading your impressions in case I get a powerful urge to see what's under those spoiler tags...

I've been waiting for all three movies to be released before I watched them. The wait has been painfull indeed. Don't think I'll be able to hold it in much longer. By the way it's going, I could watch the first two now and then by the time the third is released, I'll be ready to watch them again.

well fab's in april new laws come in that stop anything that looks like a child if the having sex or sexual activity's in case it makes the viewer think under age sex is ok.
even if the character is actually 200 years old , if they enter a sexual act and they look under 18 , its a no go.
Yeah I know about the law. But under the BBFC's existing guidelines that kind of material would be removed anyway, so I'm not sure why the representative would even bring it up. There are other places for this discussion, though, so let's leave it there.

Up-to-date with Fullmetal Alchemist (44) and that's jolly good. The animation is consistently top-notch; it still has great characters and I love the fact that it doesn't keep 'em around longer then they are needed. Honestly, before I started watching I thought Lust was a pretty huge character, then she just... got killed. It's surprising and if sometimes a bit odd, Ed and Al make up for it. I really do hate the music, though. Some tracks are fine, but they get so repetitive - I think its because they are very distinguishable, they get annoying after a while, and by a while, I mean once you hit the double digits. That and it sounds like some sort of Terminator/Disney mash-up. Ugh.

It's been about a year since the last time I watched an episode of Eyeshield21, but since it was on CR I thought I might as well see what the Deimon Devil Bats are getting up too, so I watched episode 87. I definitely will have to finish this show off one day because its quite awesome. It's nothing spectacular but its wildly different to a lot of other stuff, especially sport shows. It's like One Piece with American Football. Anyway, watching that one episode on CR made me search around and I found out the brilliant REBORN also streams on there so I watched a few (91 - 93) and again, its been a long long time since I last watched it but now I'm comfortable again with that series. I can't deny the anime doesn't have its flaws but its immensely enjoyable. I like how quickly these sometimes dull looking character designs can go from well... looking dull to looking supremely badass. Reborn himself is just as amusing, as are all the characters, but I'm loving this current arc quite a lot. Time-travel isn't something that occurs in most shows, and especially in the way its done here but its amazingly epic for it. Solely from a storytelling perspective, this show owns.

::sigh:: I guess I'll post about the anime I've recently watched then. What a pain.

Noir 1-12 - A story of a female assassin with a mysterious past, who meets a younger assassin with a mysterious past whose manner is somewhat reminiscent of Rei Ayanami. Together they look for clues to their mysterious pasts whilst offing people. Pretty straightforward stuff in the plot department really, and the slow progression of the main plot allows for plenty of stylish action, which is where the series' real emphasis lies. Other than that I like the art style and am fairly impressed with the direction, though there are perhaps a few too many flashbacks to previous episodes. The stories of each individual episode seem to be getting better as time goes on... but the biggest downside is that I f*cking hate the music! I'm not that fond of the op to start with, but out of Noir's... three or so music cues, two stick out. One of which I'll call 'Rock Opera' and is used in the exact same way in every episode... during action scenes and to build excitement that an action scene is coming. The other I'll call 'Tuneless music box louder than any dialogue which is spoken while it's playing' which I would hope is pretty self explanatory. Both of these tracks are used at least twice in every episode and I am exceedingly bored and irritated by them - I find myself wishing for the bad old days when you'd get new music along with the dub...

Funny thing you feel taht way about Noir's OST. It's highly rated by many.
The main plot is a bit messy, but the action in the series compensate for it. Mireille is an amazing character and the rest it's not too much.

Really? I'm surprised by that. I'm not usually one to notice music if it's simply average or forgettable - But the repetitive, not even particularly thoughtfully used (it feels like it's just been pasted over the scenes at times) music of Noir is the first time I've reacted against a musical score in anime. It really does feel quite grating to me.

Yuki Kajiura is considered by most to be the best anime composer in existence. It's also rumoured she does the vocal work on her soundtracks, if I recall... (edit: actually, she was in a band and can sing/works with them still)

Noir was the work that made her famous. I think I read on Wiki it was the fastest/best selling anime OST ever. Since then she's worked on a lot of series, movies and even games--she was responsible for the music on the last two Xenosaga movies.

Only Yoko Kanno is talked about in the same breath as her, and Kanno is often accused of plagiarism.

...So, yeah, you probably have horrible taste in music.

In 2001, she and Chiaki Ishikawa reunited as See-Saw. Around the same time she became involved with Koichi Mashimo's animation studio Bee Train and their first widely popular project, Noir. Despite the series' controversial status among the reviewers, all critics generally praised its OST[citation needed] as a breakthrough in the animation music scene for its risky but highly successful mix of synth, opera, and French-flaired sound.

Kopelia's casket is in my iphone now =)
