Your viewing journal

Tonight i didnt have much time so i watched the last ten minutes of Cowboy Bebop I could watch it over and over so many times it's great. When the star in the last part of the credit fades and the text "your'e gonna carry that weight" It's just great one of my favourite endings ever. Hats off to Yoko Kanno, the soundtrack is also amazing.

Watched 6 more episodes of Blood+, I'm really getting into it now. One thing I think is awesome is now that they are in London, you can see that the animators have either done good research or have actually been to London themselves. From a sign proclaiming that Budweiser is the official beer of the F.A. Premier League, to a police officer wearing a neon yellow jacket with 'POLICE' written on it, it makes you appreciate the effort that went into this.

kenichi ep 14, I am loving the way this series is going and can't wait to see him grow even stronger now he is living with his psychotic masters

The first of ten days off work and guess what I've got up to...that's right: Speed Grapher #9-#12 (excellent development in the storyline) and the second half of Panda Z (crazy!).

The highlight was my belated viewing of Only Yesterday - some may call it boring but I say to hell with them! It's a beautiful and understated piece of drama that has to be a high water mark in terms of realism in animation and possibly the great underrrated Ghibli title. Recommended.

Chobits 15 - Finally something good has happened a nice twist in the story here and it was not as boring to watch as previous episodes. I hope they can keep it this interesting for the the rest of the series.

Da Capo 10 - Another light hearted episode from Da Capo, little bit more development between the characters and Utamaru is upto his usual tricks. I zoned out through the 'side' episode, they add a tiny bit background to the character or subject selected but there is nothing to show the transition from normal episode to this yet they get different credits. Confusing to say the least.

Ajimu Kaigan Monogatari(Beach Adventure) 2 - Ah my favourite for tonight again, There is nothing ground breaking here to the rom-com genre but it is a nice little series. The Hawaiian themed sound track is a pleasure to listen to and is very soft and calming, it suits the show well. While the animation is nothing notable to todays standards it isn't really terrible either, i think the best way to put it is it doesn't take anything away from the show but it doesn't add a great deal either. However the drawings that are placed over the credits in the ending are fun and give an insight into the story to come, which was a pretty nice touch. There are a good selection of characters to like, i'm sure theres something for everyone. Good twist thrown in at the end of this episode too. Out of the three i'm looking forward to this the most, the penultimate episodes are some of the best.

Now on Episode 49 of Blood+, it's finally reached the thrilling conclusion, can't wait to see what happens! It's a little annoying that the characters spend several episodes hatching plans and whatnot, and have spent the entire story trying to prevent something, but it's ended up happening anyway, making everything they did pointless.

Also, earlier on they used to jump from place to place (one episode they were in Okinawa, the next they were on a train in Siberia, with no explanation), which is something I found really annoying and made it hard to follow, but every few episodes they spend about 5 minutes having little conversations in order to make sure the viewers know what's going on.

It's a good anime, but a bit heavy and you really need to concentrate on it to enjoy it.

was able to watch 181 of one piece last night, gonna take a look now into Haibane Renmei as the box set has just been left in my room for a while.

Soukou No Strain can't say how much l enjoyed this show. Apparently it is loosely based on 'Little Princess' but since I've never read it can't say. Why did l like it so much? there was bullying, mental illness, death of a good half dozen named characters (out of a cast of just over a dozen that isn't bad) and a good tight plot (with it being entirely dense exposition and non stop action). Only real grip about the series is some of the character designs (lots of them either are, or look like, jail bait) and the sex ratio (very few males so much so that l thought l was a harem series at first).
Heroic age episode 1... can't really say much about the first episode, except it does seem to what to put certain things in very simple terms for those of less than stellar intelligence. Hope the rest of the series isn't like that.
Innocent Venus- 1-4 ... one of those shows that is seems simple enough, but in fact has a very tangled web its weaving. Problem is knowing this it kinda makes the tangled web easy to unpick. But the mech fights are cool, the "bad" guy's suitably bad arsed, the "good" guy's suitably pseudo righteous. The animation is a bit wierd thought, some times state of the art CGI (the mecha), the characters are all fairly well done, but some are seemingly purposely primitively drawn and animated.

Finished watching Blood+, the final fights and ending were very predictable and sub-par, which put a bit of a damper on the series, but still it was very good, well worth a watch.

Watched the first episodes of Claymore and Deltora Quest. Claymore looks very good indeed, Deltora Quest frankly doesn't, animation is poor and the story is a bit poor, maybe I'll carry on with it though.

Also watched the first 10 episodes of Kanon (2006), it's a big improvement on Kanon (2002), both with an expanded story and better character design. Quite impressed.

Today I've managed to get through the first episode of El Cazador de la Bruja and Makoto Shinkai's Byousoku 5cm - Oukashou.

El Cazador de la Bruja was a fairly straight forward girls with guns anime featuring the overpowering music of Yuki Kajiura. It's a lot like a Sergio Leone spaghetti western, though like the rest of Kōichi Mashimo's work (Noir, Madlax) the super-powered protagonists can apparently dodge bullets without much effort at all. I'll probably need to see a few more episodes to decide whether or not the style offers much substance, right now it's very "meh...".

Talking of directors and their similar styles, Makoto Shinkai's Byousoku 5cm - Oukashou was, as expected, nostalgic, romantic and sentimental. It's interesting that with this, Shinkai has totally dropped his sci-fi pretensions and gone for a straight up romantic drama. My main problem with "The Places Promised..." was the overly complex and distracting sci-fi plot, and as a result, Byousoku, as just a purely character driven drama, was a lot easier to watch. Funnily enough I think his best work was actually "She and her cat", but "Byousoku" could well topple that if the further two parts are as drenched with emotion.
