Chance Pop Session episodes 7-13 (Complete. I found this pretty mediocre and the music wasn’t especially good either despite being core to the premise, which didn’t help.) 2/5

City Hunter Shinjuku Private Eyes (Film)
I thought to wait until after watching Cat’s Eye to give this a go and it’s a very fun film - looking forward to the next one later this year. 4/5

Cobra The Animation: The Psycho-Gun OVA
Not a bad reintroduction for the franchise. 3/5

Ok HWR, I just can't keep quiet anymore, I need to correct you now after your third or forth post of this, just to stay sane, lol - it's just Cat's Eye, singular, not Cat's Eyes... 😩 😉

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses ep1

The two or three shots with the egregious camera movement and the borked perspective seems to be really fuelling the discussion on social media right now, but memes notwithstanding, I think this seems like a perfectly competent, if unremarkable romance show. The people holding it up as some kind of masterpiece of animation are kidding themselves, but the others hailing it as a trash fire are presumably just basing their opinions on those aforementioned two or three cuts. For the most part, I thought it looked kinda nice, in fact. The character art has some personality, it has that muted, autumnal colour palette going on, I even appreciated the Dutch angles when the camera wasn’t swooping around all over the place.

Even with the weird parts, the only thing that really bothered me was the movement. It feels like they’re using AI to add too many extra inbetween frames, and it’s just creating this uncanny valley smoothness when the characters are in motion.

I still prefer Cobra The Animation best.
The voice actor is better.

Sweet Reincarnation ep1: Another middle-of-the-road, inoffensive reincarnation story about a precocious kid with knowledge beyond his years, though at least this guy has a sense of drive and the art style is cuter. There's nothing wrong with it but I've already watched Cinderella Chef and Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, both of which covered the same kind of ground without the copypasted isekai tropes. Everything about this episode reminded me of other first episodes I've seen in the past, so I don't see much point in continuing. At least it wasn't actively terrible.

The Dreaming Boy is a Realist ep1: An annoying schoolboy who constantly follows and harasses his crush is suddenly transformed into an annoying schoolboy who coldly dismisses his crush, who is weirdly presented as though she's upset to lose the attention from being an unattainable love interest. The lead was apparently infamous in his school for behaving like a stalker but the new 'realist' version is little better, disinterestedly staring into space, making sarcastic quips and generally coming across as a textbook example of a pickup artist experimenting with 'treat them mean, keep them keen'. There's a tiny glimmer of hope in him actually realising that his previous behaviour was inappropriate but it's destroyed by everything else about the episode. It feels like the romantic comedy version of an awkward light novel 'revenge' story. Ew.

Me & Roboco ep1-2: My partner has been loving this manga for a while so I was happy to see the anime adaptation arriving on Crunchyroll. It packs a ton of content into each three-minute episode, which is just about the right length for my brain to be able to cope with the high-speed script and Shounen Jump references which fly by so quickly that I imagine repeat viewings might be necessary for some episodes later on! I probably wouldn't bother if the episodes were full-length since it's just a goofy comedy, but as a series of shorts it's a fun palate cleanser in between the content I'm enjoying less. I'll keep this on my watchlist.

Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Wander the Dungeon episode 1 Dispensable love.

Undead Murder Farce episode 1 Living undead girl.

Cobra The Animation: Time Drive OVA & Cobra The Animation episodes 1-13 (Complete. It was interesting seeing this pulpy story re-adapted for a modern audience, and though I didn’t think it was as good as the original series this still had something to offer.) 3/5

KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! (English Dub) Episode 12 (Complete)

KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World Episode 12 (Complete)

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses Episode 1

Hell's Paradise (Japanese) - Episode 12 - 13 (Complete)

This was a real solid show, really enjoyed the mystery aspect as well as the horror imagery and an overall entertaining time. Don't see why people have been so mixed on it. Looking forward to the second season.

Skip and Loafer (Japanese) - Episode 5

Non-Anime

Secret Invasion
- Episode 3

Eh?
Cool MC
Great theme song
Sexy female characters
Our hero getting into trouble because of said females
Hero never losing his cigarillo even when punched in the mouth.

Anyhoo, last night I opened and watched episode 1 of Cyber City Oedo 808.
Super fun and great theme song. The best plot device of getting the baddies to hunt down other baddies.
Best bit was replacing bullets in his revolver. Year 2808.
Cool male and a sexy female character.

Hang on?🤯😱

I was pretty sure you'd love Cyber City Oedo 808 when you mentioned you'd bought it, one of my favourites too and the dub is so much fun! Glad to hear you are indeed enjoying it :)

Fate/Strange Fake -Whispers of Dawn-
A fantastic prologue on all fronts. Looking forward to the full series now especially after finding out the novels were written by Baccano creator Ryogo Narita. Director duo Shin Enokido and Takahito Sakazume made a name for themselves directing many of Fate/Grand Order's PVs over the years so it's great to see them leading their first TV project. Yukei Yamada also provides what may be Fate's best character designs. So much more personality in these designs than most adaptations. This in addition to another banger score by Hiroyuki Sawano. Really solid stuff.

I loved this - very excited for the main series and a return to the fate universe in anime. Personally though, I didn't like the character art style at all. Whilst certainly being very expressive, they felt more like western comic drawings pasted on to shiny CGI (which is most CGI anime but just feels more overtly so here to me). Enkidu versus Gil was epic though, especially for all the lore behind it.

Pretty much the opposite for me then. Neither Western comics nor CGI really come to mind when looking at Yamada's designs. Then again I wouldn't see either as an issue so that complaint is lost on me. I just think it's a nice break from the usual Takeuchi inspired designs most Fate adaptations go for.

KamiKatsu ep 12 (complete)
Power surge.
This had an interesting idea, but didn't take itself serious at all so most of the actions taken were kinda dumb, but mostly in a fun way.
There were also many unintentional laughs with some of the animation. The CG creatures were woeful and thus the monsters were hilarious rather than scary. There were also scenes with real life action just with an anime filter over the top. And then some scenes were done in a pixal art style. Even with all those short cuts they struggled and there were two 1 week breaks in the airing. Will say the art and design of the human characters were really nice.
6/10

Undead Murder Farce
ep 1
Seems like an interesting historical mystery with supernatural elements and as hinted at in the OP and then more explicitly in the ED seems most of the action will take place in London. I think after Japan, obviously, and fantasy worlds, London (England in general) must be the next most popular location of all the anime I've watched!
The bad guy had an M on his cane, wonder if he'll turn out to be yet another Moriarty!

Vinland Saga s2 eps 21 & 22
Facing the truth and raining blows.

Jujutsu Kaisen s2 e1
Seems we're starting with a prequel arc. Set even before 0 if I remember when that was set correctly.

Rurouni Kenshin ep 1
Seems pretty bland so far, maybe because the source is quite old now. An OP Shounen protag, despite swearing off his past, solves the problem with violence wasn't very interesting. His past might be interesting to learn about though. The female lead did have something about her though.

Seitokai Yakuindomo season 2 and movie 1 (rewatch): I still don't get some of the naughty references. Maybe I should get out more. I noticed they covered nine months in the last four episodes (Halloween to graduation), which means the first nine episodes were all summertime. Fair I suppose, as there are more smutty opportunities in the heat. I also noticed RightStuf has movie 2 for half price in its sale, but I'm not sure I can justify a purchase for just the one item, considering tax and shipping.
