Yawara! Ep12-14

Shin Cutey Honey OVA3-4

Generally, I appreciate the monster of the week format for Cutey Honey (Re: really felt like they were packing far too much into the suitcase), but Saline/Silene the singer seems like she might have had a bit more mileage in her as a character. Nice nod back to Bubblegum Crisis with the look of the concert though.

Spriggan ep1-2

Despite initial impressions being a bit iffy (the first half hour is very expository), this has actually grown on me. It feels a bit like having Hideo Kojima explain the plot of a Dan Brown novel to you after a particularly hard night on the wine gums, but there’s something rather quaintly charming in its very 1989 hardback thriller view of world politics, married to typical shonen adventure silliness. I’d also be very curious to see the 1998 film now, I believe the second episode covers the same storyline it did.

Parallel World Pharmacy episode 1 Broken down?

Gundam Build Fighters Try episodes 11-25 (Complete. I didn’t enjoy this series as much as the first, mainly due to the new characters not being as likeable and the story wasn’t quite as engaging.) 3/5

Gunsmith Cats
An action packed OVA series that possesses a charm which lends well to the humour throughout. I’ll also be watching Riding Bean in the future which I also picked up the AnimEigo release for. 3.5/5

Princess Principal Eps 1-6, since I just purchased the MVM Limited Edition boxset during this past week's Deal of the Week on AOL. I already own the standard Sentai release, but had only watched the first two episodes, so I decded it was about time I actually watched the entire series. Glad I did, since It's been really good so far, especially episodes 5 and 6. I even changed my Girls with Guns avatar to one from this series!

NG Knight Lamune & 40 DX - Episodes 1 - 3 [Final]

Another fun (if ultimately quite needless) OVA with these characters.

VS Knight Lamune & 40 Fire - Episode 1

Your standard setup episode as we introduce our next generation of heroes. Cool looking mecha so far!

Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island

I have been really looking forward to watching this and thankfully it didn't disappoint and I enjoyed it a lot. I've seen the original episode 15 of the TV series a few times (easily available on YouTube) and it helps (quite a bit actually) to know it's context in the original Gundam TV series but the film fleshes out the storyline really well and I found it quite engaging even if there a bit of 'it's another OYW Gundam movie' about it.

Project A-Ko (Blu-ray)

Still as brilliant and funny as when I first saw it 29 years ago and this Blu-ray restoration from Discotek looks amazing, credit to Justin Sevakis on his work on the Blu-ray.

Classroom of the Elite 2nd Season episode 2 Compromised.

League of Nations Air Force Aviation Magic Band Luminous Witches Episode 2 Coincidence.

Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul (Film) At long last finally got round to watching this. Dark and at times somewhat very disturbing but a great story arc overall. Bondrewd was also quite the heinous villain. 4/5

My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World
Episode 3 dragon info.

Parallel World Pharmacy Episode 1 Abnormal.

Prima Doll Episode 2 A different role.

Sword Art Online -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night (Film) A reversioned retelling of the events prior and during the first two episodes that includes new scenes and unseen footage. 3.5/5

Steins;Gate: Load Region of Deja Vu (dubbed) - I have loved Steins;Gate for about a decade now so it was a pleasure to revisit the world and characters with this film. I really liked Steins;Gate 0 as well so I wouldn't necessarily say this was better but regardless it was definitely worth seeing :)

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Film (subbed) - I'm not the world's biggest Demon Slayer fan but I do enjoy the series and I enjoyed this movie too, kinda wish I'd seen it in the cinema but ah well at least I got the LE, will listen to the OST CD at some point soon and give my opinion on that too :)

Josee, The Tiger and the Fish (subbed) - I actually really liked this, imperfect as it was, and am chuffed about getting the CE for £22.50 brand new when it was DOTW as it is beautiful and contains a lot of very cool stuff for the amount of money I paid, I haven't listened to the OST CD yet but will do so at some point soon and I'm looking forward to it. Regarding the comparisons others have made with A Silent Voice, while I liked that film (and the original manga which I read as it came out before the film was announced) more than I disliked it, I was never really a fan of the slightly moefied, "OMG how could you kick a puppy you monster" approach that Koe no Katachi took to the characterisation of Shouko Nishimiya, and the simplistic, slightly inspiration porn-ish message of the film that comes from her towards its end, so I found the portrayal of Josee a welcome contrast overall (speaking as a disabled person).

Iria: Zeiram the Animation Episodes 1-4 (dubbed) - Very entertaining and well dubbed hopefully I'll finish this today, wish there was a Blu-ray of it!

Teen Titans Seasons 1 & 2, Season 3 Episodes 1-10 (sort of a rewatch as I've seen most of these before but I'm not sure I've seen all of S3 start to finish yet) - I now own the complete set of Teen Titans on Blu-ray (includes all five seasons and the Trouble in Tokyo movie), and am working my way through it, Starfire is my favourite character but I love all of them, such a fun cartoon and a great superhero show :)

EDIT: Patlabor 2 The Movie (Manga Entertainment dubbed) (rewatch) - I can't really think of much to say about this rn tbh but it is a classic for a reason and I was glad to see it again, this is a very good dub as well, will rewatch these films again with the Bandai dubs at some point and give my thoughts on those as well :)

The Adventures of Prince Achmed (subbed) (rewatch) - a delightful silent animated film from Germany, released in 1926, that predates Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by over a decade and is approximately an hour long, I first saw this as a teenager when I was starting to take a greater interest in animation as a medium, and it still captivates me now, the score is phenomenal and it tells an Arabian Nights-style yarn full of derring-do and magic. Even more amazing when you consider its age :)

:)

Ramen Fighter Miki complete series:Just as silly and fun as I remembered it, though it's not for everyone (a review site had it alternately rated 10 and 1). Still, if you enjoy mindless violence, bad jokes and ramen. The main extra on the DVDs is a running gaming battle between the two main female (Japanese) VAs, where they play games from Jenga to billiards.

Glad you enjoyed Josee, I also enjoyed this much more than A Silent Voice. I just don't find ASV being a very entertaining or rewatchable film; I've seen it twice and that was enough for me. Josee I've already watched numerous times, along with the handful of reaction videos for it on YouTube, and I have shown it to my mother, my daughter and her boyfriend, and the neighbor girl all in separate viewings.

Hayate The Combat Butler episodes 1-18: Well, I knew it was my sort of crazy, when the first ten minutes of the first episode had our hero's feckless s parents racking up a 150,000,000 yen debt and selling their son to the yakuza to pay it off. Then he decided to kidnap a young girl, only to save her life when someone else kidnapped her first. I've got a long slog ahead as there are 101 episodes and a movie. Wiki claims there is an English dub, but it's not on my discs. Ce la vie. Break over. Back to the anime mines.....

Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie ep 12 (complete)
Dreamy.
This started with some really repetitive stuff in the first 3 episodes, but improved a bit after that. Despite some sweet moments between them the central couple seemed a bit unbelievable, she's way out of his league and even though it was explained the reason she likes him boils down to he's kind and kinda good looking, which I always think is a boring reason. The best episodes involved the wider gang of friends with the relay race one being the stand out.
The art and animation were OK.
6/10

That's Spring done, time to catch up on some first episodes for Summer:
Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ep 1
A hectic comedy show with some amusing moments. Introduces way too many characters at once, but seeing as they are in groups of 3 if they concentrate on one group per episode it will be OK. Japanese stand up is different to the Western version, but if they stick to showing the story behind the routine rather than the routine itself it'll be more interesting.

Lycoris Recoil ep 1
Seems like there's quite a bit of intrigue in this and some good action plus Chitose is in the lead for Best Girl of the season so far. Lots to watch yet though.

Engage Kiss ep 1
Not sure about this one. The MC seems like a bit of a jerk to me and the super hot and badass vampire chick, but only after kissing the jerk 🙄, seems like she'll easily win any battle, so there's no tension.

Youei Deco ep 1
Well it certainly is unique. Not sure on the story yet, but despite its colourful nature seems like a dystopia where "likes" are currency!

Bunny (Usagi) Drop - episodes 1-11

Latest title from my pile, I can remember reading the manga years ago for the basic story but it's a nice relaxing coming of age/slice of life series

Dropkick On My Devil!! X episode 2 A not-so-cunning plan.

Overlord IV episode 41 Forging relations.

Tokyo Mew Mew New~♡ episode 2 Friends.

Vermeil in Gold ~A Magician Pushes Through the Magical World With the Strongest Disaster~ episode 2 Work hard.

Gurazeni: Money Pitch Season 2 episodes 13-24 (Complete. This sports anime series took a different approach by focusing on an older main character and their ambitions, as opposed to the more typical teen cast & tournaments set up that tends to be featured within the genre.) 4/5

I just finished showing The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent Epsisodes 7-12 (end) (dub) tonight to the next-door neighbor girl, and she was practically hyperventilating by the end of the last episode - she was so into the series and all the Bishies, lol! She said this was better than Snow White with the Red Hair, and she's already chomping at the bit for a second season, which I told her was confirmed but may take a year or two to release.

She said she's planning to come back tomorrow evening to start another anime, most likely I'll be showing her either Holmes of Kyoto or Real Girl.
