The past two days i've watched through 1-8 of Gundam 00 Season two, i guess you could say i got myself hooked onto it. Its thoroughly enjoyable, far more so than the first season was to this point. Plan to probably continue with a couple more episodes tonight, and may consider watching some other shows as well later on, but shall wait and see.

mm, yeah, that's a way to view things.
It does feels like an NGE rip off at first, but actually it's a good show. Sometimes it feels like it mixes a bit of Gundam as well. It's a good show, but not even close to the greatness of NGE or Gundam.

I was more tired than expected last night, so I watched Resident Evil: Degeneration (if you'll allow me to tenuously class it as anime for the moment) instead of something a bit more "challenging".
I quite enjoyed it, but then again I'm easily pleased by this sort of thing.

I thought it was somewhere between Raxephon and NGE. I actually enjoyed it more the Raxephon, and I liked the way there were not afraid to kill off characters.
Watched a few things recently.
Save Me Lollipop. Funny little series but predictable.
The World Of Narue. About a guy and his alien girlfriend quite funny in a slice of life way. I thought there could have been a bit more action.
Shattered Angels. Okay sort of indestructible fighting girls thing where they can create robot like avatars. Not really worth a watch unless you need to fill time as there are better out there.
Negima Re-imagined & Uncut Part 1. Not too bad some story but a bit lacking. Running through the girls at quite a rate to introduce them all.
Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple Part 1. The story might be very familiar and over used, but there is just something about the show that makes me want more.

Far from young at 35, next stop pension. I also quite liked the grittier more emotional feel to sections of the previous incarnation of Negima, none of that so far in the latest version.

Maison Ikkoku: 3-5
So far, I've found the anime to be vastly inferior to the manga. The fillers used to make 1 chapter = 1 episode have been awful, including filler about Godai needing new pants in episode 5, and it's made worse by the Maison Ikkoku episodes lasting for a few minutes longer than newer anime episodes do. (Were older anime episodes given more time or is Maison special?)
There have been many attempts at extending the slapstick humour, which was cringe worthy at times. I didn't laugh when Kyoko saying, "You can do it!" was repeated over and over... Actually, I haven't laughed at all whilst watching the anime.
The artwork isn't pleasing, either. Godai looks like he's got a mild case of down syndrome and Kyoko only looks like she does in the manga when she's angry. In fairness, characters such as Yotsuya and Ichinose look the part, but that doesn't make up for how the main two look.
And as for the music, it's very poor. If anything it takes away from the experience. I wasn't expecting great music to come from an anime from the 80's, though...
I'll give it until episode 10 because chapters 2-5 - the 'lost chapters' - weren't very good. If I still feel the same, I'll give it a score of 5-6/10 and drop it.

I have mixed feelings about the Maison Ikkoku anime. Its great success is that it manages to wring every bit of emotion out of the dramatic scenes, with music and voice acting and those nostalgic shots of the town. But the comic timing of the manga is lost as the writers fill out 25 minute episodes with stories originally told over 20 pages. The worst offenders are the dressing up, baseball, and ice skating episodes. There's barely enough material in those stories to fill half an episode, let alone a full one.
As for why the older episodes are longer, I would guess that it's because there was less advertising back then.

Watching subpar adaptations of some of my favourite manga just shows me how ignorant I once was, back when I thought most anime couldn't be worse than black and white pages with speech bubbles. First Love Hina and now Maison Ikkoku... I'm staying well away if I read another lengthy rom-com and discover there's an anime!
The filler in Maison Ikkoku is the worst kind - the type that's blended together with canon content in every episode. Naruto: Shippuuden has/had the exact same 1 chapter = 1 filler pacing Maison has had up to yet, complete with sloooooooooooooooooooow fights and stupid scenes on the same level as the Godai pant filler. I dropped it after 17 episodes.

Do I like this? Do I not like this? I don't know. It's definitely more amusing that I thought it would be, but when it turns serious and starts with the tragedy porn for which all these Key adaptations are famed, I start to switch off. The first three episodes introduced the cast, then the show launched into a six-episode arc which told the story of the annoying loli character. Ugh. The final three episodes focused on a more endearing character (but not one for whom I felt remotely "moe", I assure you) and were more enjoyable as a result.
It's clear the anime is based on a game by the way it awkwardly jumps from one character's scenario to another. But so far it has admirably avoided falling into the harem trap, with no real romance so far, and the lack of fanservice (ignoring the obvious "moe" fan pandering) is pleasantly suprising. The main character, Tomoya, is described as a "delinquent", but I haven't seen him engage in any acts of delinquency more serious than sleeping in class. Nevertheless, he's cynical and wisecracking and not a loser. Hooray. The girls, however, fare less well, generally slotting neatly into all the established archetypes you know and hate, and most are a tad light on actual personality.

Shikabane Hime: Aka eps 7-9 You know i would probably buy this if it was actually on DVD.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 eps 10-13 Good to see they kept up the tradition of space bourne super weapons in this show with Memento Mori, and the 00 Riser has shot up into my top 5 gundam designs...
