Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie 3: Rebellion

This movie leaves me slightly conflicted. I'm strongly of the opinion that the original show didn't need a continuation and that the ending of that show was perfect. It was bittersweet, emotional and completely satisfactory so this movie continues a plot that I felt reached it's natural conclusion. It does it in a way that makes sense and adds to the relationship between Homura and Madoka which I really like but I still can't shake the feeling that it is unnecessary. The art in the movie, whilst gorgeous and well animated leans a little bit too far in the surrealist weird visuals that the show touched on a little. It makes the visuals seem less cohesive and doesn't work too well. The music and voice acting is great as it was in the original show, if not better (I watched it dubbed this time around and much prefered it) and I liked that they cast yet another K-On alumni as Nagisa. Now, I do feel that the story was really over complicated and whilst I got the gist of it, I started getting a little confused in the last 15 minutes or so, so I was hoping that someone who has a better handle on the plot can clarify some of the story points for me.

1.I don't get what Sayaka meant when she said she and Bebe (or Nagisa) were like 'Madoka's Secretaries' and they were holding her powers and memories. Why does she need that? Was that for only while she was trapped with the containment device?

2.When Madoka and company defeat Homura's witch, why doesn't Kyubey interfere or control Madoka like he intended?

3.When Homura grabs Madoka, how does this affect the law of cycles? If she only grabs a part of it, how does that stop the other parts working? Why is the universe rewritten?

4.How does Homura fragmenting the law of cycles cause her to change into a Demon?

5.Why does Homura say that her and Madoka will become enemies? Homura says that it's because Madoka would be unwilling to break the rules for something she loves? Is that it?

6. If Homura went through becoming a Demon in order to save Madoka, why does she act cold towards her in the new timeline?

If anyone would like to take a stab at those, I'd really appreciate it.

In the end I settled for a 9/10 for Rebellion. The confusing plot towards the end and the art style going a little far are my only complaints. The story, characters, music and such are all fantastic still.

Durarara!! x2 episodes 22-24 (x2 Ten Complete)

For some reason this cour didn't seem as good as the first season and the first cour of this season, not sure why. Just felt like once the arc got going the cour ended :(

Freedom-Episodes 5 and 6

Another good pair of episodes. Was going to finish this show off tonight until I learned that the last episode is almost an hour long. Not a show I really like watching in long sessions so I'll just finish it tomorrow instead.

Owarimonogatari-Episode 9

Holy exposition dump Batman!

Is The Order a Rabbit??-Episode 8

Seeing Chiya cry makes me genuinely upset. Also that stalking bit was hilarious.

Attack on Titan: Junior High ep 9. Another duff episode.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans ep 9. Kudelia has just made herself politically toxic by associating with an organised crime syndicate.

Young Black Jack ep 9. Robodoc?

Freedom-Episode 7 (Complete)

As always, thoughts in the appropriate thread. Probably soon too, I don't have a lot to say on this one.

Samurai Harem-Episodes 1 and 2

This is exactly what you'd expect and I'm kind of okay with that.

Young Black Jack ep 7-8. The way this series uses the 60's setting to actually tell meaningful stories (rather than just using it as background decoration as most anime would) continues to impress, not to mention the range of real issues from the time that are being explored.
Couldn't agree more with this. Have been discussing this show a bit with Prof. Irony in the chat and this really is the aspect that makes it stand out.

YuruYuri (Season 3) Episode 9.

It was interesting that they actually decided to do more with Chizuru here (after me commenting that the build up could be wasted), although I have to admit that I do have slightly mixed feelings about it. It was all good stuff and plenty of fun, I particularly liked Chizuru's attempts to express herself and her thoughts on trying to understand others. That said, it still felt they were trying to hard to stay light and "safe" rather than taking a chance by putting more into exploring the real issues and it felt that they missed out on something with potential for being emotional and interesting.

Still, the implication of what Chizuru's situation has been for at least a year was interesting. It almost felt that the show had forgotten that Chizuru is only slightly younger than Chitose and would presumably be in her second year as well. Perhaps they just chose not to focus on it because it could mean going outside of the lighter side a bit too much.

The "Errand" segment was pretty solid, another one that could perhaps have said more but at least it did build up to a fairly well executed joke (that I really didn't see coming). I'd say there was generally a bit more comedy in this episode, with it often working well to complement the other elements on show. It was also interesting that they brought back some of the old school aspects again and managed to integrate them without losing what the show has become.

I don't know if it's just because I get more attached to the characters but I do find that the more I watch YuruYuri the more I like it. I'm not sure it'll ever quite become the show I'd hope it could be but it still consistently manages to be enjoyable and does what it aims to quite well.

Fullmetal Alchemist ep 21 - 24
Mobile Suit Gundam ep 7 - 9
Gintama ep 253 - 256
Yuyushiki ep 3 - 4
Beautiful Bones Sakurako's Investigation ep 9
Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon ep 9

Gosick Episodes 1-3: Taking a break between seasons of K-On and felt the need for intrigue. Seems like the making of a good mystery/supernatural show.
I didn't love the first handful of episodes of this show, but thought the last two thirds was honestly excellent. Not a show I see a lot of people talk about, so I'd be interested to know how you find it as you go on.

You will be happy to hear that I'm really enjoying this. Up to episode 17. First 12 or so episodes were decent on the whole, but the last two arcs have been great and can only bode well for the last 7 episodes.

I kept going thinking "ilmaestro said the final two thirds are excellent" so stick with it, and it really has gotten excellent :)

I'm glad I'm in my "anime" mode at the moment and ignoring games and other tv shows. Nothing like sitting down and enjoying a Good anime show over a week or so! Will likely finish this before the weekend is out. Glad I opted for this as my next watch.
