Animator Expo (Nihon Animator Mihonichi) (Japanese audio) - Episodes 30-35 (Completed)

The shorts I watched from Season 3:
The Ultraman
GIRL
Neon Genesis IMPACTS.
Ragnarok
Robot on the Road
Cassette Girl

The Ultraman is very retro and I like it.

GIRL is set in the same universe as ME!ME!ME! though it's not clear if it's a sequel or prequel.

Neon Genesis IMPACTS. focuses on a girl band mixed with Yuri and an unfortunate end for one of them.

Robot on the Road is one of the best shorts in this Expo (and it's handled by the Jin-Roh director and Production IG).

Cassette Girl was a fitting end to the series.

Overall the Animator Expo is really good. My favourites are as follows:
#2 - HILL CLIMB GIRL
#3 - ME!ME!ME!
#4 - Carnage
#6 - 20min Walk...
#7 - until You come to me (MASSIVE EVANGELION: 3.0 SPOILERS)
#8 - Tomorrow from there
#10 - YAMADELOID
#12 - evangelion:Another Impact (Confidential)
#14 - Sex and Violence with Machspeed
#17 - Three Fallen Witnesses
#19 - I can Friday by day!
#21 - Iconic Field
#22 - Ibuseki Yoruni
#24 - Rapid Rouge
#25 - Hammerhead
#26 - Comedy Skit 1989
#28 - Endless Night
#29 - Bureau of Proto Society
#31 - GIRL
#34 - Robot on the Road
#35 - Cassette Girl

That's about 21 of the 35 I really liked. The others are great too.

Now then Andrew & Anime Ltd, license this please?

Iron Blooded Orphans ep3

Smacked a little bit of 'look at us, we mean business!!!1!!' during that duel, but otherwise, yes, this is agreeable.

Also the first I've had to use Daisuki's app. Took a bit of jumping through hoops to get the blasted thing set up, but it's actually not too bad. The only thing I strongly disliked was their small subtitles, placed at the very bottom of the screen.

Expelled From Paradise (JP Dub)

This is one of those movies which I'd purchased a long time ago yet never got around to watching, partially due to hearing such mixed opinions of it. Personally I didn't find the film in any way offensive or downright awful like some people do. It did manage to lose my full attention for a good half of the film though, and I can't say I followed it as a result. As far as I'm concerned, one moment Angela is on Earth getting used to her physical body and falling ill, and the next herself and Dingo are fighting against DEVA so that Frontier Setter can launch the Genesis Arc into space. I doubt I've missed much there to be honest. Animation wise it's a 3DCG movie, but good 3DCG with a decent budget. If anything I suppose this movie shows that Japan does indeed have the ability to create 3D anime films that don't have the look of a choppy, low quality PS2 game :thumb:

Just to comment on the English dub - I did actually intend to watch this dubbed since Wendee Lee, Steve Blum and Johnny Yong Bosch provide the voices of Angela, Dingo and Frontier Setter respectively, but from what I sampled of the dub I wasn't overly impressed with the performance. Good cast but flat delivery from what I listened to. I got to hear more of Hiroshi Kamiya and Rie Kugumiya (In a non annoying role), so I suppose everything worked out fine in the end.

YuruYuri (Season 3) Episode 3.

Another good episode, the show has been fairly consistent so far. I'd say the content for this episode was a bit lighter even than the usual for the show but the way the characters interacted seemed to elevate it into more than the sum of it's parts.

Still, I do think the show is even better when it manages to fit at least a bit more emotion into it's stories. These stories were mostly nice and fun but didn't have a lot to say overall. I don't really think it'd be fair to complain since the show is mostly aiming to be nice and fun but I can't help feeling that it could perhaps do more.

Chitose actually appeared in this episode for a change and she even had a nosebleed. She didn't do much else but it's nice to know she still exists. It's interesting to see the changes to the ways the characters are being used, there have been quite a few changes throughout the three seasons. Mostly good changes I'd say, though perhaps that's just personal bias. I was (pleasantly) surprised that Sakurako and Himawari are still getting significant screen time three episodes in. It does also feel that the characters have developed a bit and it feels like we're getting closer to the best out of them more often.

Mr. Osomatsu/Osomatsu-san Episode 3.

This one was more of a sketch show, it still ended up being somewhat entertaining. Once again there's a bit of a mix of types of humour, with some working better for me than others. I think the show is probably quite good at delivering the type of humour it intends to so if you're in the target audience then it'd probably do quite well.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex-Episodes 11 and 12

Episode 11: Okay, that was a bit of a weird episode.
I think Episode 11 is supposed to be at least a bit weird, it does seem to deliberately play with perceptions. For example, I'm fairly sure that when Togusa wakes up, the Cyborg has been replaced with a statue (though it's a "blink and you'll miss it" moment). It could well have been a statue all along, it felt like they were leaving it open to the possibility that much of what Togusa sees isn't the exact reality. That could just be my interpretation though.

Episode 12: That was very unconventional for this show but I loved it. This episode was kind of split into two small stories and that first one about Tachikoma and that little girl put me on the brink of tears. I don't know why but it just really got to me. The second half was also pretty good but not quite as good as the first.
I was quite fond of that story too, I liked the sort of understated and straightforward way it dealt with the subject. No forced drama or anything, the emotion felt more natural that way.

Regarding Episode 10, that was one of my favourites when I watched the show (doesn't look like I did a lot of notes on individual episodes, maybe partly because I watched so many at once). I think there's another good Batou episode coming up too.

I think I noticed that too, not to mention those eyes Togusa sees in the back of that guys head. I'd be interested to see if they come up with a reason for these hallucinations at a later point. I know at the end of the episode it shows that his brain has been tampered with to remove/alter his memories of the kid in the wheelchair, so I don't know if that has something to do with it. Quite strange indeed.

I don't think they ever add to the explanations for most of it, though since it's a Complex episode at least some of it might make more sense in the bigger picture later on. I think they're keen on leaving you to draw your own conclusions for quite a lot of the show, though I have to admit there were times when I felt like I wanted to see more of a particular story (or at least I felt a bit lost occasionally).

Attack on Titan: Junior High ep 3. I actually laughed out loud a few times at this.

From the New World ep 16-18. One thing I've been thinking since the start of this series has become abundantly clear in these episodes: the people of this civilization are idiots. How could they not see that creating and enslaving an intelligent species would result in rebellion. Human history is full of events like this, yet because all knowledge of the past is so strictly controlled (and anyone who thinks differently from the leadership is killed) these lessons were conveniently overlooked. And now it looks like the 'Gods' are going to fall from their heaven as a result.

Young Jack Black ep 3. Looks like the Vietnam War will be a prominent ongoing theme in this series.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - Episodes 2 & 3

I was a bit non-plussed after the first episode, but I have enjoyed these episodes more.

Love Live! - Episodes 1 - 4

Considering the amount of times I see something related to this show in my twitter feed on a daily basis, I've decided to bite the bullet, dive in and see if I can understand why this show is so popular. In all honesty, I don't really know how to describe it other than "a more interesting K-On" - cute girls doing cute things and creating a music related club. Clearly it does something right that's kept it somewhat interesting and entertaining, but for the life of me I couldn't say what it is - other than it must have clicked with me. I only intended to watch the one episode then go to sleep...

Maki is clearly best gril. Yeah I went there.

Ironically - and I say this as somebody looking forward to the movie a great deal - everything I've seen of it makes it look EXACTLY like a choppy PS2 game.

Michiko & Hatchin (English Dub) - Episodes 12-15

It's been a while since I last saw the previous episode (January 2014 I think it was - back then I was waiting for The Woman Called Fujiko Mine and Chaos;Head but the US Snow Storm interfered with UP1's delivery so I got Michiko & Hatchin and Good Luck Girl while waiting for those two).

I like the English Dub for this series mainly because it fits the setting.

Speed Grapher eps 9-16

Seriously a recap episode, ergh. Episode 16 had less than 5 minutes of new content the rest was recap, what an odd place for a recap episode as well. The episodes excuse was the group doing an audit of all the events that have either made/cost them money since the start of the series.

Kinda looking forward to this show ending now as it's been dragged out so much, if it was condensed down to a 1 cour of 12-13 episodes i think this series would have been much better but with 24 episodes you can tell they've had quite a few filler episodes (recap ep obviously pointing this out), which has made this series average at best.
