Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex-Episodes 8 and 9

Episode 8: Kind of a meh episode. Not a lot going on in it. However there was an unexpectedly cute smile from the Major which is a plus.

Episode 9: Kind of a filler episode but the endless different theories about the laughing man did kind of give the overall plot a bit of depth.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX (Subbed)-Episode 31

Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon ep 2. I wasn't expecting a fight against mecha-saber, the Type-Moon fanboys will find that amusing at least.

The iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls s2 ep 12 (complete). Not only was this two weeks late but the animation quality was really poor with lots of still images, what's going on with A1 Pictures?

The Perfect Insider ep 2. I gave this the benefit of the doubt after the first episode, but this second ep has not shown me any reason to continue being optimistic.

You'll have to tell me if that gets any good. I watched about 7 episodes then wrote it off as the most disappointing show I've ever seen.

I look at it as one of those shows where Trigger basically went '**** it, let's just mess around, and have still images and massive explosions every second with everyone greeting each other every single time they see each other because we're NINJAS! And have boobs! Because they're voluptuous!'.

I get that and I guess that's appealing to some but I just wish they advertised it as such and not like this

That's why I outright dislike the show, because before the show aired they were putting it across like it was a fairly serious (at least by trigger standards) show with, you know, actual animation. The show is just super frustrating to me, I feel like the show had the potential to be great if it was animated like a normal show and not like a 12 year old who just learned keyframes in Adobe Premier.

Tokyo Ghoul √A - Episodes 08-12 (Completed)

I feel like this could be controversial, not least because it may be the most ridiculous U-turn in anime reviewing history, but these episodes are easily the best of Tokyo Ghoul's entire run (and I mean both series here). This marked improvement in quality seems to occur as the season overcomes most of the huge narrative problems of it's first half, eventually starting to have a coherent plotline that for the most part makes sense and manages to curtail the first half's problem of picking up and dropping plot strands at random. For the most part I like these episodes because they're fun, tense and have great character moments which feel genuine rather than manipulative. Even Juzo who started off as quite feasibly the most unlikeable character ever, manages to partly redeem himself before the end. This season as a whole seems to rely a lot less on trying to shock people than the first (though that might just be because there's way more censorship this season) and it really helps the show feel sincere towards it's characters. Whereas the first season made them feel like tools being used solely to screw with the audience, this season seemed to genuinely care and want the best for everyone, even the crazy ones they wanted dead last season.

I do have some problems with the final episode, most notably how do the CCG know Hide is missing? Also, Hide was a porter, what kind of Police force is so fricking desperate they send a porter to battle and have them fulfil an armed role? Me reading too much into the show aside, Hide's death scene was seriously underplayed, for something so obviously telegraphed for the two seasons, I found it weird and a little disappointing that they didn't ham it up a bit (and I did laugh at that ridiculous clunking sound effect immediately afterwards). It also felt like there were a lot of missed opportunities with the final episode, shots that could have really haunting and beautiful that weren't. I don't know why I was expecting them to, TG isn't that kind of show, but I was repeatedly struck by how certain shots in that final episode could have been entrancingly beautiful and how that would have probably made the show way more horrific. But even these flaws (and my ridiculous expectations) don't ruin the show and I may be the only person in the world that thinks this, but I'd be more than happy to have the creative team behind √A back, even if it means we have sit through four and a half episodes of crap to get to the good stuff.

As an aside, it's interesting to note the way people's reaction to 'issues' with shows change depending on whether they want to like it or not. World Trigger does an OP 8 minutes in and it's ridiculous, Tokyo Ghoul does it and no one bats an eyelid.

No idea what I'll watch next. I have a tonne of stuff on my watchlist, but I don't really know if I want to watch any of it at the moment. I suppose if I'm going to keep going on about World Trigger, I should actually catch up at some point (I'm well aware how ridiculous and hypocritical this makes me), so I'll probably try and power through the next arc, even if I can't bear the thought of how awkward it will be...

Is The Order A Rabbit??/Gochumon Wa Usagi Desu Ka?? (Season 2) Episode 2.

Something seems odd about putting Syaro in a "full-length" maid outfit, given what she usually wears at work. It was also odd that Syaro and Chiya both seemed to be skipping their work, not quite so bad for Chiya since it's a family business (she's less likely to be fired at least) but it seems like a big risk for Syaro (especially since I'd have expected her to need the money).

Overall it was another reasonably good episode, though I'm not sure I liked it quite as much as the first.

Is The Order a Rabbit??-Episode 2

I thought for a second Rize wouldn't appear in the maid outfit. Thank God I was wrong. Also, I don't normally watch EDs but I was told that the ED to this show was especially cute and they certainly weren't wrong. Jesus, I think I have diabetes.

One Punch Man-Episode 3

Continues to be amazing.

Kagewani - Episode 02
So maybe the art is a little ropey, but it suits the show and I appreciate how weird this is. Not sure if I like it or not.

Interestingly this seems to be Tomovies first major anime project, and their website even lists the software they use (they seem to specialise in CG); AdobeCS6 AfterEffects Photoshop Premiere Illustrator cinema4D, if anyone's interested.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - Episode 03
Who knew talking over a military unit would be so uneventful? I especially love that the villain of the episode is an accountant, seems weird that the show would even consider the possibility of money being an issue. And we need to applaud whoever called that accountant Dexter Culastor...

Monster Strike - Episode 03
I'm wondering how big the budget for this is, because somehow every single moment of this 8 minute ONA series looks better than anything Toei have done this year...

Ushio and Tora - Episode 16
