A bit of a lengthy post here, my internet was down for two weeks so I've been playing catchup this weekend.

Baby Steps s2 ep 10-11.

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works s4 ep 10-11. I'm actually starting to like one of the characters in this, Gilgamesh really is quite awesome.

Hibike! Euphonium ep 9-10. Plenty of drama, all of it very much of the tiresome variety that anyone who went to school will remember (except the yuri bits :p ). I still don't really care about this music competition they are practising for. Or their love life. I'm just not getting into this.

High School DxD: BorN s3 ep 10.

Last Exile s1 ep 1-21. Been watching this on DVD to fill the time. A bit slow to get going mainly because I wasn't sure where the story was going. It really does get better as it goes though, and this has some fantastic character development. I'm really into it now.

Plastic Memories ep 10-11. Urgh. This is just trying to be cute now, but only so it can emotionally devastate what few fans it has left in the last two episodes. What a pathetic show.

The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan ep 10-11.

The Heroic Legend of Arslan ep 10-11.

The iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls ep 9-11. Still introducing the many idols. I'm sure the best stories of this series will be in the second season.

Sword Art Online - Episodes 1-7
After seeing all the negativity surrounding this series I ended up with incredibly low expectations, which may have benefited me as I quite enjoyed these episodes. I like the characters, loved the animation and the story has suckered me in.
Negatively though ..I did feel like the show tried too hard to be edgy at times (though that's something that many shows of a similar ..type tend to do, I'm sure edgy is an unofficial new genre) and the emotional impact of the death of the guild members didn't feel as impactful as intended, I didn't feel like time was invested enough into the characters for me to really care.

I'm going to go purchase the next lot of episodes as I'm real interested in seeing how this continues.

EDIT: For those who've read the source material, did the adaption skip a good amount of content? Felt like the pacing was off in places, like their should of been more to it..if you get what I mean?

Shirobako-Episodes 1 and 2
Episode 1: Well that was an intense first episode. It introduced a ton of characters and it felt a bit overwhelming. I thought it was pretty decent. Nothing too spectacular yet.
Episode 2: I liked this episode a bit more. Specifically the bit towards the end. I kind of hope it takes some episodes to flesh out the characters a bit more.

I'm bad enough with names at the best of times so Shirobako was a struggle in that department for me. I found that it was best to not worry too much and just pick up what I could. It does actually get easier and I think the show tends to improve throughout it's run. As you say, it also helps when the characters develop a bit.

Just watched 3 episodes of Psycho Pass. It's alright, but a bit bland to be honest. It's all very run of the mill. I'm not sure I'll have the compulsion to carry on with it.

The negativity surrounding SAO is only really matched by the positivity. It's the John Cena of anime.

It's not so much that they "skip" very much content in the anime version, they just don't spend a lot of time on it and don't really make it obvious when there are big gaps in the timeline. The passage of time is relatively well communicated in the first two LNs, even though there are lots of periods of "missing time" in them, too.

I nearly dropped it around episode 4, but by episode 6 onwards it really ratchets things up.

Yeah, with SAO it's worth noting that the first cour is pretty much the whole first book (which is only around 200-300 pages), so if anything, the anime actually pads stuff out a fair bit more than the source material (although obviously you get more of the interior thoughts in the book).

Shirobako-Episodes 3-6

Episode 3: I think I'm starting to get a feel for the show now. It's very manic and high energy and that makes it quite fun to watch. There are still a lot of characters but it isn't really necessary to remember who each and every character is which is evident by the name tag when ever a character first appears in an episode. I'm still waiting to get to know more about the main cast. Out of the main cast (According to MAL anyway) only Aoi has really had any major screen time.

Episode 4: Hey, an episode that slows down and focuses on the characters. It's like they read my mind :p

Episode 5: I think this episode was a good mix between the character stuff from Episode 4 and the manic action of the first 3 episodes. I hope the rest of the series is like this. I also liked that it addresses an issue that I'm sure is quite prominent in the industry, 2D Key Animation vs 3D Animation.

Hunter x Hunter - Yorknew City arc (2011 version)

It goes without saying that Hunter x Hunter is incredible throughout, but I don't think it was until I'd finished watching all of this arc that I realised just *how* good it could get. I mean, seriously, it's almost unfair to compare it to other Shonen Jump series, it's that much better. The quality of animation for a series that ran over 100 eps is insane, and the pacing has you on a knife edge through every single episode of this arc. It just puts one finger up to every Shonen series that spends 10 episodes on one battle, constantly doing the thing you'd least expect again and again.

There's amazing action aplenty here, and some of the most violent scenes I've seen in any anime, let alone what's ostensibly a kids Shonen series - but more importantly, it's the mind games and psyche outs that truly make this arc great, propelled along by a fantastic cast of morally ambiguous heroes and villains. Plus, any series that manages to start out as a typical boys-own adventure series and then transform into a dark, brooding mafia thriller deserves extra points on top.

Sound! Euphonium-Episode 11
Well that was quite an emotional episode. Also I CANNOT HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF KISS TEASING. IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE.

The yuri Gods were certainly smiling on us this week.
