Need something fluffy to take my mind off the impending Christmas concert yesterday, so a rewatch of Hakumei and Mokichi. so relaxing, and I survived the performance. Now halfway through the first season of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!. It's fun but fairly predictable. I do love how she is so oblivious to all the boys (and girls) falling in love with her. That's normally a teenage boy in these things.

It struck me that we can't be too far away from the scenario where, around episode six, the main character finds out that all the other characters were also otaku in a previous life who had played a version of the game the current world is based on, in which their character comes to a bad end, and they are all trying to change the story so they survive.

Finished My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!. Took a bit of a dark turn towards the end, with some pretty intense emotional trauma, but veered back for the traditional happy ending. Now to wait for them to release season 2 (and the movie).

Finishing up some Winter shows.
The Witch and the Beast (dub) eps 10-12 (complete)
The Undead Unwanted Adventurer eps 8-12 (complete)
Both decent fantasy shows with some interesting plot points. Art and animation wise TW&TB was definitely the better one.
Both 7/10

I'm interested to see what you think of Capeta, I watched it in 2017 and while I thought the show had some nice character moments and was accurate in its depiction of karting I had real problems with its pacing.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episodes 1-2 (English dubbed) - This is off to a strong start, really interested to see where it goes, a lot of shirtless guys lol, neat to have Mari Okada writing Gundam and Tatsuyuki Nagai directing it! :)

I enjoyed IBO a lot and it was a breath of fresh air for TV Gundam after AGE and Reconguista in G.

Even myself, who is not a Gundam fan whatsoever, actually enjoyed IBO and and ended up buying the big Limited Editon Season 1 set that Funimation put out back in 2017 - although I gave the Gundam model to a forum friend and threw away all the bulky packaging, and later added the two Season 2 Blu-rays to fill the chipboard box.

Gosick: Episodes 7-14 - Sympathy for the Grevil

Some good episodes here, some less good. I generally like the direction Gosick is taking, I like the way new characters are being introduced into the mix (I like Avril, it feels like she's added a bit of missing spice) and familiar ones are gradually accumulating depth. I like the atmosphere and the feel of it, at its best Gosick is reminding me of nothing so much as a slightly darker twist on Hergé's Adventures of Tintin, with Kujō and Victorique being drawn into a succession of mysteries and conspiracies in inter-war Europe with a hint of the paranormal hanging over everything. Grevil would absolutely not seem out of place alongside the Thompson twins either (the detectives, not the band, though his haircut might suggest otherwise). All Avril needs is a bottle of rum.

Let's not go to Saillune/Sayrune/Seyrun/Seirūn(?) it is a silly place.

The ending to the S...wherever arc however seemed rushed to the point of feeling a bit ridiculous. "We're going to prove my mother's innocence! I know who the real murderer is, but I don't know how to prove it." "Wow, a major milestone your story arc has been building up to Victorique, surely this will be your most difficult challenge yet?" "Nah, not really, you're going to put on a spooky mask and scare the real murderer into immediately confessing in the next scene, then I'm going to monologue about how she did it since we used up too much time on the case of some people who wanted to steal a jug, or something." It felt like a fairly major cop-out after setting up what seemed like such a promising plot thread. Things have improved in the episodes since, but it did make me reconsider how I felt about the show's previously very good pacing. The purple dress Victorique era seems off to a good start though, it feels like there's a deeper and more involved mystery going on here.

Avril, you look disturbingly enthused about religiously motivated genocide. Avril no, particularly not in this time period, pls.

I'm not sure how to feel about Kujō and Victorique's characters and relationship at the moment. Victorique's attitude towards Kujo often has me wishing he would grow a spine, particularly since I'm privy to his memories where it's shown his father was obviously verbally and physically abusive, which makes me annoyed at Victorique on his behalf for continuing to abuse someone who's been abused his whole life. You don't know how hard I was willing him to just sit down and eat that cake in front of her, at least someone did. But then Victorique will get upset and berate herself privately for being such a social reject (which is not her fault either) presuming of course that Grevil doesn't get in first and I feel bad for her as well. The expectations, judgement and legacy of their parents seems to be a major theme for both of them (and to a certain degree for Grevil as well) which probably makes the behaviour of all of them understandable, even if it's often not particularly likeable. I guess the fact that I'm feeling for the characters is still a good thing, I'd just like to see them open up to and gain a bit more understanding of one another (the stand-alone episode 11 was good from this point of view). While it's obvious they care about each other it's not always obvious why because it kinda feels like the audience know the characters better than they know each other.
