Tsukihime

Still don't get why this is as revered as it seems to be in certain quarters. Found it a bit of a slog to get through if I'm honest
It's because people have read the VN. The anime does not exist.

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma 1

Yup, that was Shokugeki no Soma alright. Looks like a faithful adaptation of the manga. They certainly didn't hold back with the foodgasms either.

Re. Kancolle, I didn't think it was that bad. While I echo some of the frustrations a lot of people felt in terms of the fact it clearly could have been much better (and constantly seemed to be on the cusp of doing so only to hen let people down) I think ultimately it was no better or no worse than a host of other cute girls/fighting girls anime out there.

In an alternate world, yes, this could have been the Madoka of mecha musume shows, but in reality, we were never going to get that, and I kind of just enjoyed it as good, clean, simple fun.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders - Episode 37
Nisekoi - Episode 11 & OVA 1
Saekano - Episodes 10 & 11
Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works - Episode 13

Have been hyped all day for Fate/Stay Night and it certainly did not disappoint. I even watched it on CR - and despite having a CR sub I never watch anime on there.
I'm absolutely loving the new OP theme and animation. This is only the second song I've heard from Aimer (The other being RE:I AM) and they both sound very "epic".

Fate Stay Night UBW - ep 13

Holy crap I wasn't ready for that.

I think this ep is now probably up there in my Top 5 confessions of love scenes in any anime - it just totally floored me. I can't remember who said it, but that moment when a Tsundere goes all dere for the first time is just the most incredible thing ever, and with Rin, even more so.

Also, I swear this show keeps looking better and better with every episode. The OP sequence is mind-blowing, and echoing the thoughts above on the accompanying OP theme by Aimer being totally awesome.

Jojos - Egypt arc - ep 12 + 13

Wasn't sure how these two eps were going to stand up next to the D'arby ones, but somehow they did - In a way, I feel like this cour has very much been the 'comedy' arc, and this set of eps absolutely fell within that remit, and distilled it down to a fine essence. I like when Jojo's gets you rooting for the villains too, for a change, in terms of the POV for the ep.

Food Wars - ep 1

Enjoyed this a lot - and going by this ep, looks like this will be a strong contender this season. The ecchi stuff is just absolutely ridiculous, and hilarious at the same time. But I like the balancing between the sense of drama and comedy too - it's all really well timed and the production values feel pretty decent for a Shonen Jump series.

Is It Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon - ep 1

I didn't have the best of hopes for this after reading the LN it's based on, but I felt this was a solid enough start. Remains to be seen how decent the rest of the series turns out to be, but it was an enjoyable fantasy romp here, with some nice nods to RPG mechanics.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO! 1

Great to have this back. Looks like we're picking up right where we left off. Hopefully the second season will keep up the dry, insightful comedy that made the first season such a triumph. I like the slightly different character design as well. It looks like the change in studio between seasons hasn't adversely affected the series.

Toradora! (Japanese Dub) - Episodes 19-25 (Complete)
Toradora! Bento Box (Bentou no Gokui) (Japanese Dub) - OVA (Complete)
Toradora! SOS! Hurray for Foodies (Japanese Dub) - ONA Episodes 03-04 (Complete)

Kitamura is added to my list of 'entertaining' anime characters.

I'll be honest, I'm quite torn with how the conclusion turned out (I preferred Minori over Taiga, yes I know many will disagree but that's my opinion. But I don't hate her and I do admit the ending was rather nice but watching Minori cry in the end really saddens me). I swear I've seen this kind of situation before (they get together but one of them leaves the school) but nevertheless Toradora! is a great show and I just have a random reaction to watching half the show today in a meh-mood that's all. Also, Episode 23 felt like I was playing a Visual Novel; near the end Ryuji had to make a choice on whether he should run to Taiga and that part made me think there could be a 'What if?' scenario.

As for the OVA, frickin hilarious. Now on my list of 'Favourite OVA episodes'.

Now then, that's one anime backlog done. More to go.
